  1. [ame] [/ame] cheesy!
  2. I think the Husky is the more powerful machine on paper, I've got the 580BTS and it is a beast, like a jet pack!
  3. You just need to wire them in parallel (not series), so all the positives and all the negatives go together. You also need to make sure all cables used are rated to take the current and the fuse is of the right size
  4. Gonna give it a bash using a 800kg tirfor copy, which is 8.3mm wire, and an 80m length of cable. Do you think that'll take my weight? It's no fun if I don't get to ride down it myself
  5. It's all gobbledygook to me! The reason I was thinking using the trifor cable is it would be very quick to set up and take down at the end of a day, and you could have the zip wire an infinite length you wanted between 0 and 50m Does it make much difference to use a single or a double pulley?
  6. They look good, it's a pity they won't post them to the Highlands!
  7. Some great ideas and suggestions I like the idea of using a thinner cable, and I could then get a longer length to get further up the hill - 100m would be good! Although can't remember how many good trees there are to tie it off Waterbouy, whereabouts in Argyll are you? Might be a good excuse for a trip in the van with the other half!
  8. Cheers, yes I'd already thought about chutes, it would be ideal but the problem is cost and transport/storage. Have you a link to a suitable pulley?
  9. Mad idea time, thinking of a way of getting timber down a steep slope. Buy a 50m wire rope for my 1600kg "tirfor style" ace winch. String the winch up between two trees as far apart as possible and crank the winch fairly tight. Buy a wee tandem pulley like this sort of thing: Mountaineering Climbing Rock 25KN / 5600lbs Zip Line / Wire Cable Trolley Pulley | eBay PETZL NEW TANDEM ARBORIST DOUBLE TYROLEAN PULLEY P21 | eBay To run up and down the wire. And use a wee strap or whatever to attach a log to the pulley. And a cheap rope to pull the empty carriage back up with. The logs wouldn't be too heavy, they would all be liftable by hand. The braking system at the bottom would need some thought! Do you think it would work, how much sag would there be in the middle of the 50m cable with 30kg+- of log on it. Not so much use if each end needs to be 30ft in the air to stop it grounding!
  10. I'd read about armillotox online but apparently it's not made anymore, and the remaining stock is about £90 a bottle!
  11. Have you used any of those ones yourself? Are they any good, and will they keep the moss at bay for any length of time?
  12. Hi, does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for a chemical to help deal with moss on a small area of tarmac and (dirty) gravel?
  13. The copies are sold under various names, jet, ace, etc I have an ace winch and it IS ace!! 1600KG ACE Wire Rope Hoist Winch - 2500KG Pull Expert Lift 1.6 Ton 2.5 Shear | eBay
  14. Turns out you can find loads of newspapers by the roadside. Once a fortnight. Just get there before the council lorry! (I also light fires in the big house)
  15. The flat bed is quite handy for moving longer items on relatively flat open ground, although you obviously loose the "narrow access" element whilst carrying a 12ft bit of timber sideways!
  16. Yes should do (if they'll sell it to you), not sure how the "weight kit" is attached on, might need holes drilling. You could also make attachments of your own, I made a wee towbar to bolt on the skip. You do sometimes see used muck trucks on ebay etc, apart from the initial depreciation on a brand new machine, they seem to hold their value quite well
  17. I've got a muck truck max, you pay a fair bit more to get the "arb truck" which is the same sort of thing but with 4 bolsters It's a handy bit of kit, as with anything it has it's limitations
  18. As recommended by someone on here, I bought a set of 3M Worktunes fm ear defenders off ebay from USA. £30 + £15 shipping + £15 customs so a fair bit cheaper than the husky ones I was also looking at. They feel very good quality, and the sound is really good. I am still too scared to use them on a wet day though!
  19. Also forgot to say, be careful what you wish for! My house phone number, random one we were given when we moved in, is quite memorable ie 534354 (that's not it!) I was happy at first but there's two problems: -When reading out your number, people get jumbled up -When phoning out from the landline people won't answer as they think it's telesales! :laugh1:
  20. Look on ebay too Years ago I helped a friend sell a memorable mobile number on ebay, IIRC it was something like 07*** 123456. He got the number in the first place as he went in to asda to buy a new pay n go sim card. He wanted a number he could remember easily so raked through the pile of cards and found that one^. Probably cost him a fiver from asda and it sold on ebay for about £300-£400
  21. If you need work/cash get on the books of a few recruitment agencies, there's always work going, just tell them what hours you can/can't do
  22. Just bought a drum of rapeseed oil from the asian cash & carry, so will try it out
  23. Can't comment on the Husqvarna harness's, but both Oregon and Honda do ones that are very similar to the "old Stihl", which I find comfortable
  24. [ame] [/ame] Interesting video, have never seen a saw like that with the long handles!
  25. Just fix the LDV, it's a long list but most of it is very minor! Better the devil you know
