I think sycamore is a very under rated timber. Looks very smart.

Typical woodland mills, if you thinks that was bad wait till you need spare parts, we waited 3 months for parts for the processor ? We find the local delivery guys are normally the best part in the chain luckily. I would be properly having a cause of Tourette’s at them if I was you.

Those shiney things on the side of your truck should let you see the trailer to back up to it square on. ? If the hitch is at the right height you can go steady till it touches the ball get out and wind it up then roll back the last inch and jobs a good un. Seriously there not bad to move empty, wind the front up to get the weight on one axle and you will turn it easy. Full it’s hard regardless of the number of axles.

Looking for size UK 14 / EU 50 chainsaw boots
Will C replied to Th'folk_up_Westwood's topic in General chat
Forest and arb told us they could order them in a 14 for our son if needed but they didn’t hold them in stock and there may be a wait for them. this was a couple of year back when he considered arb at college but went down a different route. -
Look up “piano moving dolly” there excellent for moving all sorts of stuff

We would look at bringing the normal chip truck and a second truck/4x4 and tipping trailer, that way one person spends most of there time on the Road tipping but you lose the bottle neck and make the most out of the 3 man team on site. Hour round trip to tip and a learner climber will still out do the chipping with one truck

There is nothing stopping you applying to the local TO to have the tpo removed, (the report should be all the evidence you need) and then having the trees felled. Will your insurance company repair the garage if they are not interested in doing the trees in question? Edit: Most tree teams will do the tpo paperwork for you if required.

The basic 2 arm Oregon shredding blade works ok ish (slowly with small bites) on the small stihl trimmers, could be worth a try, only about a tenner on amazon with a size adaptor to fit most things.

For Sale - Genuine Low Mileage Arb Spec 2017 VW Crafter - Only covered 14.5k miles! 3.5 ton plus 2 ton towing. We have owned this truck from new and no finance has been on it. The specialist ARB body was built by Solent Body's in Fareham, along with the cab conversions and has been on since it left the VW dealership. The body has a cut out in the rear doors to allow for chipping with the doors shut which is great in those narrower driveways but equally they can also be open and hooked back! The body comes with a lid which covers the first 4ft of the body, and lifts up to catch any over spray from the chipper, the lid can also be lifted up into a vertical position to allow for loading with a machine if required. There is a rear ladder rack which is set up to easily accommodate tripod or straight ladders. There is a slide out step built into the rear of the body so it is easy to get in and out of the bed as needed. The tailboard misses the tow bar when tipped however if reversed into an existing heap it will catch, the proof of this is included in the sale (as one this has happened to is included in the sale) however there is a brand new tailboard fitted which has never been to work! Driver’s Seat and double seat in the front, so comfortably carries 3 people. The rear of the cab has had the seats removed, a fully sealed bulk head and two shelves fitted along with a fresh air vent on the roof (the tool box or the cab never smells of fuel). However, included with the sale is the original rear seat for 4 people complete with 3 point seat belts so the vehicle can be easily converted back into a crew cab with storage under the seats. This seat has never been used so is as new. Under the double front seat there is an invertor for 240 volt power, we have only used this for charging the batteries for power tools/saws but it is a very handy bit of kit. The truck is fitted with LED flashing beacons on the front grill and the rear corner posts (visible over a chipper). Fitted with driverite air suspension system from new, this is fully adjustable from the switches on the dash or manually with an airline. The compressor for this is also fitted under the front seat. This system is TUV approved so not classed as a modification. This kit will also allow the towing capacity to be uprated with SV Tec (possibly needing a tow bar change) but we have not needed to as only towed a chipper. There is some spare air pipe and filters for this kit included with the truck. The first service was completed by VW main dealer. The truck is now saying it needs another service which is booked in at a local commercial vehicle specialist next week. Its first MOT will be completed at the same time, so it will be ready to go straight to work. This truck has been fitted with waterproof seat covers and rubber floor mat from new, so the interior is as new underneath. Electric Windows. Electric Mirrors. Radio with SD/USB/Aux Ports etc. Bluetooth Hands Free with a multi-function steering wheel. The not quite so good bits: There is a scuff on the n/s front corner of the bumper, and there are a few light hedge scratch marks over the cab and body as you would expect from a work truck. Previous sign writing has been removed, however this is still just visible at the present time on the body. This truck is a truly stunning example of an Arb Spec Tipper and is exceptionally low miles for its year. The vehicle is located on the Isle of Wight (which is where it has spent all its life), we are happy to meet prospective buyers at any of the ferry terminals (Lymington - Yarmouth, Southampton - Cowes/East Cowes, Portsmouth - Fishbourne/Ryde, or Southsea to Ryde) with the truck if you want to come over as a foot passenger to view, and delivery could be possible for the right deal. Selling for genuine reasons and not for cashflow reasons so we will not be accepting daft offers, but are open to sensible offers. contact on here or Will on 07523952797 £16,500 plus VAT. I have tried to post in arbtrader but it won't except any photos, hope it is ok to post it here @Steve Bullman ? If not sorry!

This is the problem with modern society, every one wants everything yesterday for next to nothing. I blame social media and amazon! Ebay is full of wasters these days ? I must say your service has always been bang on Rob, quality kit and quality service ?? Hope your all good across that side of the Solent? And are keeping safe in these uncertain times
-
Also look at the vertical mill @Rob D does, they will allow you to make use of trees bigger than your mill.

I’m a fellow left hander, it’s the simple things that are harder. That said I’m at a slight advantage to some in that I can swop hands for practical things if needed, but always favour the left and only write with the left.

At 17 it cost me £1000 fully comp for a mk1 golf 1.8 gti campaign edition in 1999 (5 weeks wages) That seems cheap compared to the youngsters now

How much do you charge as a subbie for the use of your own truck?
Will C replied to Brian Jones's topic in Arb-Trucks
How would you split that if you left the chipper at home Bob? -
The question is were you or the Subbie “running the site” ? if your paying the bills, collecting the cheque and on site the insurance company will say you are. If you say to the subbie “thats the job crack on, however you see fit” And leave them to it. They are then running the site as a bonafida sub contractor and it is then there problem insurance wise. Apart from the customer will claim against you and you inturn claim against them. thats how it was explained to me, I will happily stand corrected.

Can you transfer the crane onto the new trailer with a engine driven hydraulic power pack?

That’s the best end of the island, the other end is full of bloody tourists ? in fact the whole island if full of tourists and elms at the mo! hope you enjoyed our little rock.
-
I also think the hedgerow elms are getting bigger each time before they die off, it used to be 10ft ish they would die at, now it seems to be around 20 ft or so. I do wonder if some natural resistance is building, this is only a ponder and I have no evidence to prove it before anyone jumps on it as a load of carp.
-
@Squaredy Where abouts on my island did you come to? The Ulmus Lutece elm do incredibly well over here, we have even had to thin a couple of copse of them after they have done far better than expected, last winter I felled half of a small group of early trial ones, they were aprox 25 year old, 35-40ft tall and about 10 inch dbh
-
Years since I’ve seen them, it should be shown to the youngsters that say the 35ft freshly dead syc isn’t climbable and they need a mewp ?
-
I was told a story of a lad that was given a tracker, he got sacked when he was found asleep in the truck while the dog wondered round the woods with the tracker on its collar ?

@skyhuck that is possibly one of the best posts on the matter for quite some time ?
