  1. That’s the best end of the island, the other end is full of bloody tourists ? in fact the whole island if full of tourists and elms at the mo! hope you enjoyed our little rock.
  2. I also think the hedgerow elms are getting bigger each time before they die off, it used to be 10ft ish they would die at, now it seems to be around 20 ft or so. I do wonder if some natural resistance is building, this is only a ponder and I have no evidence to prove it before anyone jumps on it as a load of carp.
  3. @Squaredy Where abouts on my island did you come to? The Ulmus Lutece elm do incredibly well over here, we have even had to thin a couple of copse of them after they have done far better than expected, last winter I felled half of a small group of early trial ones, they were aprox 25 year old, 35-40ft tall and about 10 inch dbh
  4. Years since I’ve seen them, it should be shown to the youngsters that say the 35ft freshly dead syc isn’t climbable and they need a mewp ?
  5. I was told a story of a lad that was given a tracker, he got sacked when he was found asleep in the truck while the dog wondered round the woods with the tracker on its collar ?
  6. @skyhuck that is possibly one of the best posts on the matter for quite some time ?
  7. CAR LANDS ON ROOF AFTER COMING OFF TRANSPORTER WWW.ISLANDECHO.CO.UK A car has landed on its roof after coming off a vehicle transporter outside a garage in Newport this evening (Thursday). Emergency services have been called to the... This is the height of today’s entertainment this way. ?
  8. The right pick up will tow 3.5t and carry a ton at the same time, what’s the issue with the buckets in the truck?

  10. Be careful with it, the plastic piston stop that comes with a new clutch can break off in the pot, then you have to remove the exhaust and shake it out. I have used them successfully but have also had them break if heavy handed
  11. A meter of CLEAN starter cord down the park plug hole will block the piston if your stuck, poss not the best way but very effective as long as you dont lose the end
  12. Here is indeed a huge difference between a grind out and a back scratch
  13. @Adam1998 if you don’t get the help you need look at the local hire shop for a small chipper and a rubbish removal guy, it might not be ideal but when your backed up in a corner think outside the box. a advert on Facebook for free wood normally will see it gone as quick as you can cut it around here. We had someone evan take a palm trunk out of the chip heap once ?
  14. Talk to these guys, it’s seems to be no big drama when we spoke to them. SvTech - Pickups WWW.SVTECH.CO.UK Various uprates are available on 4x2 and 4x4 pickups to provide between 200-300kg more payload. In some cases a higher towing weight can also be achieved. Some of the models...
  15. 2k for that staircase? It would seem it isn’t only the arb industry that suffers with the race to the bottom ??
  16. Fix Often Repeatedly Shouting Tourettes
  17. What a bunch of ................................... I would be tempted to remove the smaller branches that will fall as it goes brittle, leave the trunk and larger scaffold limbs then paint what is left Bright pink and attach a sign to the top telling everyone that this tree was killed by local vandals at house number xxx and now they have to look at it until they pay to have it removed and replanted with a semi mature tree. it might not get you anywhere but it would give me some satisfaction .
  18. No from the east Anglian fens
  19. It’s hard to cut, hard on climbing kit and hands as the bark is rough, bloody heavy, hard to split, crap to dry with out splitting and twisting if milled. On top of that it’s an invasive weed that’s taking over down here ? It also Copices easy. If you hadn’t guessed I’m not a fan on them, the only good thing is they are generally solid enough to rig big lumps off here is some further reading about the horrible stuff. The holm oaks of Ventnor Downs WWW.NATIONALTRUST.ORG.UK Learn about the Holm Oaks at the National Trust's Ventnor Downs on the Isle of Wight.
  20. Once the lower branches are shaded out by the higher ones the leafs/needles are not longer productive so the tree shuts the branch down and it will die, eventually looking like Steve’s picture
  21. I couldn’t name them but you have some cracking pictures there, thanks for sharing.

A good felling hand cutter tends to make for a accurate climber, go for it.
  23. Evan if “the boss” is unprofessional he has still done the leg work to get the job and provided you with work. You curled one out on him, once found out I’m surprised you have any more work from him, or any one else he knows for that matter.
  24. Did you bounce it out?
  25. Fell while you have the paperwork if it is the result you want. Once the application goes in for the sycamores you could lose your chance.
