    Walnut

Are they valuable black walnuts?? Sorry I will be quite now ?
  2. Any timber from them we have always seems to split so I’ve never thought of doing anything with it, mostly give it away from site as it’s hard work vs reward as fire wood ?
  3. Bloody things are taking over here, we now have the biggest Holme oak forest in Europe! They look ok but I find the rough bark is hard on climbing ropes and knuckles, it’s also a heavy and hard timber, far from my favourite to work on and the leaves deffently do drop all year ?
  4. @Pete B is your man for a questions greenmech related. The CS100 may well be more money but will have good service backup where as some of the Far Eastern machines can be some what hit or miss for spares when something goes wrong leaving you with a expensive paper weight. I can’t comment on the skarper chippers I’m afraid, but would advise you check spares availability (on any make) before spending out.
  5. I’m not sure, so don’t feel it fair to speculate.
  6. I think it is tested as a complete unit. You might struggle to get it loler tested if you make it yourself. No one will ever question it until something goes wrong and your insurance walk away from helping you, followed by hse shafting you for the privilege. It’s a real shame tho as those with the skill to build stuff are being held back by red tape in favour of big companies, as a country we will lose innovation and all the skill that goes with it if we’re not careful.
  7. Apparently parts for the peruzzo are now available through rytec, I believe but I haven’t had to find out yet, it’s never missed a beat. Equipment 4 industry went under, shame they did offer good customer service. I agree with you on buying local where possible Pete but we ended up with the Italian copy due to needing the tracks.

    Elm?

Half way up a bank that’s to soft to drive up to the bottom ? it’s on the Isle of Wight, I would guess it’s not going to be worth the cost of the boat to get it off this rock. ?

    Elm?

Cheers guys, will have a look at getting out.

    Elm?

Mmm, now there’s a idea, add it to the heap of planks that I will do something with one day ??

    Elm?

We dropped a elm stick today, it’s about 18” at the but and 16” at the top end at 3.5-4m long and poker straight. Its only 2 branches under 3m! The tree was showing early to mid signs of ded if that effects the timber quality? Ive hung off ringing it up as it’s not often we see Elm of any size around here. Is it worth milling? I’ve never milled elm as we mostly only get 6inch hedgerow regen crap The sticking point is it is half way up a bank and needs winching out, not the end of the world if it’s has some value but if it hasn’t I might as well ring it up and roll it down the bank (all firewood can be left on site so no extraction needed) Before you ask I didn’t get a pic as was getting on and dropping the next one. thanks for any sensible thoughts
  12. Looks a nice tree. Don’t build the soil level up past what the tree has had all it’s life, You will create more problems than you save. just replace what has been lost.
  13. I have indeed very limited knowledge. I own and run a similar machine. Before I had a career change I was a agricultural engineer so I’m completely unqualified to say any thing on the matter. Eggs is bang on the money I would of thought. ?
  14. To true, especially when you can have a custom stair case for 2k. From johns post I would of said 4k is steep. the Predetor machines are very well built but easy to work on
  15. You need 2 things in life, comfortable boots and a comfortable bed - if your not in one your in the other.
  16. grey or speckled alder are fast growing round these parts, bark looks right but I’m not convinced by the leaves.
  17. Same here, year group bubbles that can not mix at school but get a packed school bus with all year groups mixed up. ?
  18. If that’s the pole saw then the driveshafts only last so long, they ring off of turn the outer into a round tube if the chain gets nipped in the cut.
  19. I came away from a big posh house with 2 big shiney cars on the smoooooth gravel drive (you know the sort of place) with the contents of the kids money box once, whole 2.5 cube load paid in change. Was better than reloading it ?
  20. @Mick Dempsey your not showing off just working smarter not harder
  21. Unleaded tends to need 2 stroke oil mixed with it otherwise 2stroke machines don’t last very long ?
  22. The 461 will run a 30+” bar with a skip chain, slow but will plod on if your stuck. I would go with the 20 and letter box through the gob then run round the back.
  23. I bet by the time it’s over (world wide herd immunity?) all countries will have a very similar % of cases and deaths. Sweden will get there sooner than us so at the moment there cases will be higher, but ours will drag on for possibly years, to end at a very close % point once herd immunity is reached. No scientific evidence just my thoughts and I can’t be bothered arguing about it, if you can carry on talking to your self, you will get the answer you want!
  24. Looks good. Good luck with it, hopefully something more permanent will come up as well.
  25. I think sycamore is a very under rated timber. Looks very smart.
