cheers for the reply Andy. It’s not ce marked for road tow however I have added lights to it and take it short distances (we can’t go far stuck on this little rock and are in the quite end of it? ) it does tow fine with proper wheel bearings and load/speed rated tyres it is just over a year old, only seen a max of 100 cube of our arb waste. I will get some pictures and video of it working etc for you tomorrow and have a think on price. will pm you once I’ve got some pictures sorted.

Are you looking for a woodland mills log processor Andy? I have one that could be for sale, due to possible upgrade. I could easy make it fit a double pallet and get it on a lorry up country.

As said above plus Pros Stumps are the same price but quicker and easier work so you earn that way. upgrade to a 38 from your 460 and it will get more places Heavy enough to assist the occasional fell running costs are much the same, poss use less teeth on a tracked grinder as the smaller machine notices blunt teeth sooner but only minimal difference cons you can’t run it up ramps into your tipper (assuming you’re running transit size truck) with chip and towing chipper so it makes the stump another trip or another truck and trailer on site

Check the return line from the injectors back to the tank, especially if it goes via the injector pump if they get blocked they can cause funny symptoms on some engines, simple but often over looked

Most pro grinders will get aprox 16- 18inch deep from flat ground. You can always “dig it in” if you need to get a little deeper. If your going to be building a retaining wall, a digger with a root hook might be easier if you have access for a sensible size machine as it can reach down the slope with out disappearing down it ? and you can make use of it for the wall footings and back fill.

Air flow is key, less air means slower drying. A real lack of air flow can mean mouldy logs that in turn dry evan slower.

We go direct to the guys at Preditor, we have delt with them since before they had a dealer network. charles was arb rep wasn’t he, apparently he moved back to South Africa but I’m not 100% on that.

We have had no problems with predator machines or there service, we are on our second machine from them with no major issues, we had a small drive problem with our first one and there service was spot on. I can’t recommend them highly enough, I certainly won’t look at other grinders unless they seriously drop the ball. I can’t say the 28 I use rattles it’s self to bits, it’s been faultless. Im not saying other machines won’t be as good, but the predators are a decent machine with first class service, this is not to sniffed at, he best machine will give up at some point but good support, fast parts delivery/service makes the difference between a happy customer or one who tells the world it’s crap!

Remove most of he dead (leave some for the insect life, that will in turn feed the birds etc) then reshape and thin, if you thin the tallest stems you will reduce the height at the same time. Also remove and wood that’s rubbing unless it’s been like it for years and starting to fuse together. Any cuts you make try to leave a small stub rather than flush to the stem as the tree can heal better. It has got a good few years in it yet, but I would poss think it is time to plant the next generation as it is in its latter years and won’t last indefinitely. any solid wood you remove will make good fire wood or the local wood turners always like fruit wood. -

We use the Stihl long reach battery one, it’s spot on, when the short one needs changing next it will be battery to match. They don’t quite keep up with petrol on thick stuff but on trimming you won’t beat it - no fumes, lower vibes, no ears needed, less weight which makes a huge difference on the top of wide hedges I could go on! I don’t believe in the environmental side of battery equipment as we are just moving the problem to the lithium mines in poorer countries and to the power stations but as a tool just wow what a difference in personal enjoyment and safety from lack of fumes and vibrations

Shortsightedness seems to be at play here, in the longer term the rates will cost far more than you will gain in the short term, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, personally I would be keeping my head down.
