  1. Forest and arb can order them in for you, we had to enquire once but it never happened in the end.
  2. The unknown is the state of the ash trees not the novice, we know they need the practice. I think the idea has legs but on ash with die back not so much
  3. I start the bid at 50p and a curlywurly 👍 cracking saw but no idea on its true value.

    Oil setting

I try to use a minimum of 2/3 of a tank of oil to a tank of fuel. Anything over a 20 inch ish bar is flat out - oil is cheaper than bars
  5. Look at echo, a bit cheaper to buy but just as good value for money in hrs worked vs £ spent. good luck it sounds like a interesting idea, check you don’t fall foul of pl insurance and possibly cutting vegetation on others land can be seen as criminal damage if you look at the final details.
  6. People come to a small company because they like the person that comes out and quotes, said person is normally on site when the works are done. When that person changes a existing customer may not like them and wonders off to another contractor that they feel more comfortable with.
  7. Your local hydraulic place should keep all you need to fit one the shelf, a new end will cost less than the oil you are going to use topping it up in a few weeks
  8. You can but you will only get the functions wired to your 7 pin socket on your truck not the extra functions of the 13 pin.
  9. I’ve got the woodland trust app, just wondered if there was anything better. This sort of thing moves on quicker than I keep up with.
  10. Which app does he use?
  11. I completely agree, but if the op hasn’t got access to a winch then it can be done. I wouldn’t do it as my first option
  12. You could parpuckle it with 2 people on felling bars if you don’t have a winch. You will need a 3rd person to put chocks in each time you move your bar to be safe.
  13. I think the extended cab is the least crap of the options you have listed.
  14. A long row of pops or conifers to reduce to a uniform height a picker would win on speed but I’m not convinced on being safer 90+ % of the time.
  15. Is that a bad thing? A mot once a year on a machine that you should maintain to a good standard anyway. No big deal but a few £ a log book issued for every trailer in my mind would reduce the theft of trailers hugely over night, this in turn should (but probably wont) reduce our insurance costs - there’s your trailer mot paid for At the end of the day this should only be a problem to those running a nicked trailer with no brakes. That’s not a problem in my opinion. EDIT: If licensing laws are made easier it could also reduce the number of over weight 3.5 ton trucks on the road by allowing the average jo to run a bigger truck that isn’t over weight and there for safer???
  16. The micro bull is a cracking bit of kit, punches well above its weight, doesn’t have to stop at the sight of a garden gate and a very high oil flow compared to other small machines as well so beats them on attachment options, they run the flail etc a treat, speak to @Dave Alviti
  17. Our local free advert site occasionally throws up a gem, this one just made me laugh. A cheap saw complete with saw trousers that have been cut down 😂🤦‍♂️ Chain saw WWW.WIGHTBAY.COM Oleo mac chainsaw only 2 months old home use only a few times comes with a free pair of class 1 sthl class l trousers the bottoms were cut to fit a 31/32 inside leg but if taller can wear...

    Tree id

Another 1 for alder, has the split edge gone pink now it’s exposed to air?
  19. My electric one will just about glow red, it wouldn’t cut a rope cold. It is so much easier than pissing around heating a blade up. 5 sec holding the trigger and your cutting. 10-15 seconds to cut through a climbing line and same again to round the corners off to seal it. (Whilst still holding trigger) turn it off and forget about it till next time. Mine is probably 6 or 7 year old, it’s one of these: HSGM Rope Cutter - Portable Hot Knife - Cuts Sailing Ropes, Industrial Ropes : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools WWW.AMAZON.CO.UK Shop HSGM Rope Cutter - Portable Hot Knife - Cuts Sailing Ropes, Industrial Ropes. Free delivery on eligible orders of £20 or more. I dont know if that’s the best deal just the first that came up.
  20. Just remember you need 2 things in life: 1 comfortable boots 2 a comfortable bed If your not in one your in the other. spending good money on good boots is worth it. Arbortec aquafell/hydro fell are some good ground boots but I don’t like there climbing offerings tho. It’s all down to personal preference, if you can get into a arb shop and try some on.
  21. Lift the bonnet at tick over and that sensor will show a fault and stop it running. This will show you what colour they change to.
  22. A rope cutter! Worth every penny spent, I think most arb suppliers sell them, if not eBay and Amazon do, search hot knife rope cutter Like you I messed around with heating Stanley blades up but the dedicated cutter is so easy you will wonder how you managed with out it.
  23. Good effort, Hope you have a speedy recovery.
  24. @Steve Bullman was offering trackers, not sure if that’s still the case.
  25. Heat? What heat? It’s 15 deg and damp here, send us some of your weather please. basic maintenance is forgotten by some, usually those that don’t have to pay for it!
