  1. He other point of note (in my mind) on blades is if you let them get to bad the sharpening cost goes up and as they have to grind more blade away to get a good edge so you get less sharpens per set = higher cost. But I guess the counter argument is more hours between sharpening intervals will evan the number of hours per blade set.
  2. Sharp blades cause less wear n tear and use less fuel. I’m with mick on changing them sooner than some would
  3. If you can put up with the steering wheel not being square to the seat, banging your elbow on the door, getting wet in the rain (window open or shut) then go for it. once you have over come those issues then comes the fact something is always falling off ( parts are cheaper than jap stuff but you will need far more of them) rust will be more of a issue than modern jap stuff. they handle like a hippo on roller skates when loaded but all that said on the plus side you can fix most stuff on them with an adjustable spanner and a lump hammer! And they are kind of cool
  4. I would say much the same. Also bear in mind if you pull the pin out on the lift ram you can lift the cutting wheel and arm up vertical with a ratchet strap. It’s not often you will need to but once done there isn’t many places you can’t get it 👍 as well as boards I use a couple of 4ft bits of scaffold plank to take the sharpness off steps etc, or put them side on against the edge of a patio to stop it crumbling the edge as you go over it. cracking machines with excellent service and backup from predator.
  5. With what is quite probably one of the best grinders on the market to boot!
  6. Interesting reading, the article was written in Aug 2018, if it was Likely soon I’m sure we would of heard more by now. the younger generation not being able to run 7.5t means more excessively fat transits on the road which I think was a step backwards. If they could all run 7.5t trucks the roads would be safer IMO. I think a trailer mot system will be on the horizon in the not to distant future. A log book and mandatory safety test for all trailers wouldn’t be a bad thing for safety, it would also make it harder to steal and run stolen trailers as well i wouldn’t be at all surprised if some chair polisher doesn’t come up with a crap scheme that ruins it even more for those of us trying to run legally and not making any difference to those who don’t give a toss.
  7. You cannot just rehouse a nest under the wildlife and countryside act
  8. That’s a good stump for a small grinder 👍
  9. What the hell did you do to it? I’ve found the predator machines to be very reliable
  10. I think it’s the same machine as the predator 360.
  11. It’s only Cornwall that still trade in turnips and banjos as legal tender I’m afraid. The barter system could work well but its being stopped along with the cashless society arriving 🤮
  12. Cash is verging on a liability these days. Through the books the bank charge you to pay it in, most suppliers are accounts or online so the only place to get rid of it is fuel and there is only so much fuel a set of battery saws burn. 🤣 undeclared cash you can’t spend as between track and trace, mobile fones and store points cards there is almost always a record of what you spent where so it could bite you very easily come tax inspection time🤯
  13. Nowt wrong with pound notes inc the vat, but paying cash to avoid the vat is a different thing and if a job doesn’t exist nor do the just in case perks of having a professional team do the job. IMO it’s part of the race to the bottom problem we face as a industry
  14. One of my answers can be along the lines of: ”If I work for cash then we don’t exist, therefore neither does our insurance, anyway about this tree over your roof/greenhouse/conservatory you worried about” That normally kills the cash conversion.
  15. We get the odd very dark red here, they look deep red or black depending on the light conditions
  16. No greys here. We have a charmed life as far a squirrels are concerned. The reds cause no tree damage apart from a very very occasional nibbled branch, I’ve only seen it in bad drought times possibly when they are desperate for some moisture, prob half a doz times in the last decade. (There is no scientific evidence to this claim just a passing observation) I have had them run up my rope a couple times, always a pleasure to see.
  17. I rate the 28 as long as you keep the teeth sharp but I’ve not used a 38. Go for radio control if you can, makes getting close to walls/ fences etc much easier. You can also get out of the noise / dust better. As for access they get most places. Back up from the team at predator is always spot on in my experience.
  18. The best make is what ever is sold by the best local dealer. Service and spares backup are worth far more than saving £50 for a online bargain. Boots, trousers and lid are a must, a good trainer will teach you enough to work safely and efficiently, wind blown and dead trees trees can be hard dangerous work if you inexperienced, get taught the basics to keep you alive and learn from there.
  19. I always enjoy watching Reg, There isn’t many that post videos of big/technical stuff that haven’t got there head that far up there own arse they can see what breakfast was. He always comes across as a normal genuine guy 👍
  20. You can fell 5 cubic meters of timber per calendar quarter but you can only sell 3 cube from this. This quality does not include the brash just the product timber. There is no size requirement, the quantity could come from 1 tree or 20. Check for tpo and conservation area protection before proceeding. check the rules as I may be out of date.
  21. Normal advice for this is to Fell and replant
  22. I’ve not heard that said for some time. Excellent response 🤣
  23. @the village idiot We had a similar problem about a year ago (but with out the quantity of ringing up) switched to rye oil’s mineral oil from a veg based one and no more problem, like you I would rather use veg based oil but it was costing us twice. We tried different sprockets, different bar and chain makes but it all came back to the oil
  24. I'm thinking put the pull line on the upper trunk? Would that not work? rope above the top cut would work better(it was late) the point still stands, your potentially in a mucking fuddle very quickly if you nor carful! I was more trying to put across the risk side of it, not a move for the inexperienced or faint hearted on a big tree!
