    Come and join our team

We are looking for a new team member to join us. Based in Canterbury Kent, we are looking for a new lead climber to come and complete a 3 man crew. The work you will be doing is mainly high end domestic work, there is a very small amount of contract commercial work but not too much. Of course here and there there is always going to be a wee bit of coni bashing and hedge work We cover the entire county of Kent and further afield for said commercial work. It'll be the usual drill, rock up (grab a brew), load up, get job sheet and away you go. Our kit is up to date and we'll looked after. Once on site you'll be the main point of contact for the client and run through the job with your team members. I'm happy for you to run the job as you please. The most important thing is safety and quality here. You'll have time on jobs to make sure these are prioritised, I won't run you through the ring, and I won't micro-manage you. It's important that you have the relevant tickets 30-39 (41 desirable as is stump grinder) and that you can carry out your work to BS3993 (2010). Ideally You will have 5 years experience climbing and be up to speed with most tree climbing operations. We are pretty relaxed here at About Trees and believe whole-heatedly that staff morale must be kept high - de-breifings often take place in the battle cruiser and can sometimes be a rather drawn out affair. What more is there to say? Give me a tinkle and let's chat 07814 577734 Cheers Wayne

    New Groundsman

Hi, following a change in career, I am newly qualified with CS30/31 certificates and looking to begin work as a groundsman. With my sights set on undertaking my CS38 Ariel rescue course as soon as possible, I am also first aid at work trained, hold a MEWP licence and have experience towing up to 750kg MAM. I currently live in Winchester but willing to relocate for the right position. Preferable areas of work would be Hampshire and Wiltshire. Admittedly I have little experience except for some work experience with a local firm, however I am no stranger to hard work and long days. Very keen to learn and progress I am willing to do what it takes to become a successful Arborist. Please contact me for further information or if you would like to be sent a copy of my CV. Thanks Mark
  23. Morning All, i am a small, one man band with no direct employees, but a list of independent subbies that I regularly use. They are covered under my employee insurance Yadar yadar yadar...... when filling out forms for work, and they ask for the amount of employees that I have, should I list 0, or can I list the number of regular subbies? As far as the work goes, we regularly go out as a 2 or 3 man team so seems silly (in my head) to potentially under sell and limit myself if I have to say it is just little old me on my own. thanks

    New Career/Kingswood training

Hi everyone I am new to the site. I am 32 years old, I live in Liverpool and I am thinking of leaving my well paid office job and get myself a trade in becoming an Aborist. I am currently earning 40k a year and I am aware that I will have to take a big dip or even cut in half my salary by making this career choice. Some of you may think I am mad but I am really tired of the office politics and sitting behind a desk all day. I feel really connected with nature and this, I am not new to hard graft I used to work on sites building universities and hotels as a labourer but never actually had a trade behind me. My plan is to get a month intensive training from Kingswood training centre in Kent which do a full starter course which gives me... NPTC 201/202/203 (CS30/31) – 5-day Lantra Chainsaw Maint. Cross Cutting and Felling of Trees (up to 380mm) plus NPTC Assess NPTC 206/306 (CS38) – 5-day Lantra Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue – plus NPTC Assess NPTC 308 (CS39) – 2-day Using Chainsaw from Rope and Harness – plus NPTC Assess Stumpgrinder – 1 day Lantra or NPTC Woodchipper – 1 day Lantra or NPTC Basic Tree Inspection (BTI) – Lantra Qualification Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – OFFQUAL I know having the tickets is only half the battle and what employers want is good experience. I know its not going to be easy. I am worried about not finding work due to my experience after forking out 3 grand on the course. I would just like peoples thoughts on this who have experience in the business, especially those starting in their early 30s. The money is secondary to me and job satisfaction is more important to me now. The idea of maybe one day having my own business and this line of work which has so many aspects to it is exciting to me. I would love to know peoples feelings on being an arborist, does anyone hate the job? if so why? do you love it? what would you do differently if you started up again? Look forward to hearing your thoughts
