  1. The best make is what ever is sold by the best local dealer. Service and spares backup are worth far more than saving £50 for a online bargain. Boots, trousers and lid are a must, a good trainer will teach you enough to work safely and efficiently, wind blown and dead trees trees can be hard dangerous work if you inexperienced, get taught the basics to keep you alive and learn from there.
  2. I always enjoy watching Reg, There isn’t many that post videos of big/technical stuff that haven’t got there head that far up there own arse they can see what breakfast was. He always comes across as a normal genuine guy 👍
  3. You can fell 5 cubic meters of timber per calendar quarter but you can only sell 3 cube from this. This quality does not include the brash just the product timber. There is no size requirement, the quantity could come from 1 tree or 20. Check for tpo and conservation area protection before proceeding. check the rules as I may be out of date.
  4. Normal advice for this is to Fell and replant
  5. I’ve not heard that said for some time. Excellent response 🤣
  6. @the village idiot We had a similar problem about a year ago (but with out the quantity of ringing up) switched to rye oil’s mineral oil from a veg based one and no more problem, like you I would rather use veg based oil but it was costing us twice. We tried different sprockets, different bar and chain makes but it all came back to the oil
  7. I'm thinking put the pull line on the upper trunk? Would that not work? rope above the top cut would work better(it was late) the point still stands, your potentially in a mucking fuddle very quickly if you nor carful! I was more trying to put across the risk side of it, not a move for the inexperienced or faint hearted on a big tree!
  8. A step cut marked in yellow (with or with out the red gobs) will snap as there is no holding wood when pulled (as the fibres are cut twice with overlapping cuts so each end or trunk and stump are not connected) with the green rope at which point the tree is not attached to the stump and is now free range and trying to kill you and you have to guess where it will or won’t fall and which way to escape sorry for the poor drawing
  9. Most trees are fine being cut in the summer. I’ve layed the odd bit to fill a gap to make access harder for the wood fairies whilst in leaf, that was thorn and it just carried on like nothing had happened.
  10. Be carful with this, it can turn into a step cut and just winch the centre bit out with a pop! I’ve used it successfully and unsuccessfully which can result in a few seconds doing the tree god dance trying to decide which way to run.
  11. A teaspoon of hydraulic oil in the bore will raise the compression for a retest if the rings are bad, no help to the valves so can be a good diagnostic tool.

    Jokes???

  13. My guess would be the burner hasn’t got hot enough to burn all the newness off. Im only going on the fact the wall paper next to it is still intact, our burner would of set light to it long ago 🤔
  14. Unfortunately you can’t get a weaver in England any more. I started out with weavers, now in tm. They are a cracking harness with good back support. I seem to remember they are hand stitched by the Amish.
  15. Ours gets all mixed up, a mix of woods we find is best to get the best out of it.
  16. Years! I reckon our one is at least 4 if not 5 year old.
  17. ArbPro Plastic Tray 60L TREEKIT.COM 60 litres | 75 x 40 x 29 cm Plastic Tray 60L. Tough plastic tray with handles. these are good with the waterproof canvas lid, can happily carry a full rigging kit on your shoulder. A rigging rope will run out under the lid if it’s wet and as a added bonus they can be up turned over Mrs miggings shrub so it looks like you agree the manky thing is a excellent example! cheap as well.
  18. Both together means value for money, just expensive is just that
  19. I would of thought that by depositing there waste soil from there ditch they are in effect fly tipping. Also if they have damaged your tree on your land it could be seen as criminal damage unless the damaged roots have crossed the boundary and been damaged in the process of maintaining there ditch on there land (encroachment) in which case I reckon you would be wasting your time. im sure someone will give you a proper answer rather than my un qualified thoughts. However one farm I know of did win a fly tipping case where old compost had been repeatedly tipped over a fence, I don’t know of the finer details tho.

  21. Sub it out to the experts, no Agro just a cost to add to the bill + x% for your time
  22. That’s a cracking bit of timber 😎
  23. I would put hazel on par with beech or apple, it’s well up there for heat output. Cracking firewood, I will save hazel smaller than most woods, it’s normally relatively straight and easy to process which is a bonus
  24. I’ve only used older carltons so not a fair comparison. Predator, fsi, Carlton and bandit all have there fans, there all have good and not so good points. look at what they all have and decide what suits you best. If you don’t want tracks I would strongly advise getting a turntable like the predator 460 your back will thank you.
  25. You will not go wrong with a predator, cracking machines and spot on customer service 👍
