  1. I had a call last year year from a woman asking me to 'come and trim the bush round my man hole' When i turned up she showed it to me on her path, a manhole that often had to be lifted, but was surrounded by a nasty pyracantha.
  2. Good work there James.
  3. But while other 'personalities' gave up their time for children in need free, he did not, he insisted on being paid full wack.
  4. After the first 500 i stopped counting years ago.
  5. The writings been on the wall for years, the owners i know view their defenders through rose tinted spectacles. I sometimes ride in my friends quite late one, and after half hour journey on main roads, i fall out of the passenger seat in need of an osteopath,and/or a chiropractor. He refers to his pride and joy as '2 oil leaks connected by an electrical fault' .
  6. If i'm still above ground in a years time we will see you back here then, er , Simmo.
  7. And using a pole saw isn't against the law either, i have had very good contract climbers (and fellow arbtalkers) ask to send up the gypsy stick, to get the job done easier and safer and with cuts to a good standard.
  8. Being in the vicinity of the army battle area at STANTA, and raf marham, i have noticed that the camo defenders the soldiers drive, all have the spare bolted on the side. Not on the back door or the bonnet.
  9. That's me
  10. Sorry to hear that Peter, hope your insurance pays up soon, sickening.
  11. Ive known a few in my time, some bordering on being certified, who would have been safer for everybody in a straight jacket. Others just weird like a middle aged chap that joined the team, and quite quickly his habit of touching himself over his trousers became very noticable and more and more frequent, like every 20 seconds or so if he had a free hand. Obviously the other guys in the crew asked him what he was up to,but he would simply shrug it off as if he didn't know what they were talking about. A good worker but not what customers want to see on their property, i remember when i mentioned my concerns to him,and his future with us, he looked at me as if i was bonkers.
  12. You're not wrong there Dave, i can generally smell free loaders a mile off and they dont get too much for nothing off me, but the genuine ones are a different kettle of fish and we will do small add-ons if i feel its appreciated.
  13. My daughter had a new line fitted from the pole to her new house, phone worked for a week, then went dead. When she called India they told her she lived in bishops stortford (actually lives in Norfolk) and they wouldn't believe that her phone wasnt working. They still billed her continously, and it took her from april to october afore they got her landline to work. She's still got the scars on her forehead from the brick walls.
  14. Chainmail gloves and circular saw? Sends a shiver down my spine just thinking about it.
  15. Sometimes its on as i'm settling down, the calm posh voice advising a storm or severe gale, and i cant help thinking of the storm tossed fishermen in their old tubs facing 40 foot waves out there, while i'm warmly tucked up in my bed.
  16. I called today off due to awful forecast, relaxed drinking tea and sitting beside my wood stove most of the day. I used to tolerate working in the pouring rain for hours on end, but nowadays i cant stand it too much.
  17. The Mk7 has so much electrical (for a van) on it, that if nothing is staring you in the face, its often better to get it hooked up to a diagnostic display, either a good garages general one, or fords own ids computer to get the codes read.
  18. With a wet lettuce

    Dolmar

This is good news for Dolmar owners everywhere. The service i've received this last year from Andrew has been first class.
  20. I will keep my eyes and ears open over on this side for you Phillip.
  21. Whilst i was in a queue at esso a while back, i became aware of a young fellow coming in behind me in quite an agitated state. He was pacing about like the world was on his shoulders so i asked him if he was alright - he said he'd just put some petrol in his car and now realised he'd left his wallet at home. I told him to calmly explain to the guy behind the counter what had happened, and to offer whatever he had of value with him as a deposit, with his name, address and number, and then return to pay as soon as possible. This must have been acceptable to esso because as i pulled my truck away from the pumps, he caught my eye as he came out of the door, and cheerfully gave me the thumbs up.
  22. Sleep more, work less. Delegate more, sidestep stress-inducing customers, Put rates up, earn more.
  23. Your client is getting a few quotes in no doubt, so if you fancy getting as much as you can you could say £600 for the connie, but i wouldn't think you'd get it,no matter how good your presentation/sales patter is,but you never know. More than likely you've got to say £500 and we all know how connies have a habit of slapping you in the face, so allow all day for just you two doing it.
  24. Yes i cant resist looking at the rubbish logs in the entrances to B & Q and Tesco, was inspecting the tesco ones a bit too closely the other day,as i got the evil eye off the security boy.
  25. I may be able to fix you up with an artic load of oversize cord from my main yard, mixture of oak,ash and beech. Ime only 45 minutes from norwich so you could easily arrange your own transport ,if thats of any help my friend.
