  1. After I replied to this Wednesday our local man from redwood was on the phone first thing yesterday morning, we have been promised that our machine will be taken in and sorted. I would like to think you have had a similar response, good luck with it bud.
  2. No he is not alone! Our paint work is crap, it has been in to be repainted, by the looks of it with a bog brush in a dusty yard over the top of the flakey paint and rust! After I said it wasn't good enough I was told it wasn't viable for redwood to repaint the whole machine but they would do us a very good deal when we changed it, we looked at the Arb show and another dealer offered us over 2k more than redwood to trade it in! Good deal my arse Ours cuts out at times for no reason, never did get a call back! I changed fuel filter but no change, normally when working hard, reminds me to ring again and waste a little more time Our top feed roller also slipped over at about a 100 hours, when I spoke to the workshop I was asked if I had a tool box? When I said yes I was told "sort it then" and was promptly hung up on. Our drawbar also came lose and I had to tighten it, not a big deal and to be expected if I had brought a 5k pile of c@@p from China but on a machine that is claimed to be well built??? Ours is still under 200 hours:thumbdown: could understand it if it was 2000 plus hours and second hand As soon as It is viable to it's going and I WILL NOT be buying another one or dealing with red wood if I can help it.
  3. Make sure you send in all the records in of first use it makes the job easier, an easier job is a happy examiner which is a good thing, I've sent kits back untested for no paperwork and no I'd markings!
  4. Having had to claim on my pl insurance once from tree work, also as a loler examiner I wouldn't consider having any one on site with out having there gear tested, if my gear wasn't tested when I needed my insurance I would be out of business now. Also as a examiner I may go outside of the guidelines given by the manufacturer of equipment with regards to service life in some instances, but you need to remember that the day someone gets hurt I have to be able to stand in court and justify my decision. So you need to give the examiner the space to pass or fail a piece of kit as they see fit as it could be there house/business/reputation on the line. Just stop and think you wouldn't go to work with out your pl and employers libality insurance so why make it invalid by not getting you gear tested, it's not expensive in the grand scheme of things!
  5. cant beat them, cumbersome horrible things but I would never be with out it, got me out of a muddle on a number of occasions.
  6. ive got a older one with the carb on, now 5 years old and still earning me money ;-) We have had no probs with other electronic stihl saws and will replace the 441 with another electronic one when this one goes, unless I send this one to spud ;-)

    Birch?

Cheers lads I thought that was the case but didn't want to waste a lot of time

    Birch?

Evening Ive got a decent size birch to fell this week, got to have about 30' of straight trunk and about 20" across at the but end. So is Silver Birch worth milling or will it just warp/twist as it drys and if I manage to get it dry is it any good for owt or will I just spend a lot of time making plank shape fire wood? Cheers all. Sorry if its a daft question but ive got the bug to plank any thing that's worth doing
  9. Where are you based? I started like you and now I like to give people a chance, A couple of teams gave me a chance and a start in the industry a few years ago and ive not looked back or forgotten those who gave me that chance. In my mind any good employer wont expect you to work for nowt, you might not earn top money till you have shown your worth but to work for nowt is just taking the pi** out of some one and makes for a demoralised bloke that never shows his best Good Luck find your chance to get a start:001_smile:
  10. Apple table, Its about 18" high 2' long and 8" wide The legs are made from scrap chain and a bit of angle from under the bench
  11. Ive still got a spare one, had little use. I will check the date of first use for you and would send it with a new loler test. Send me a message on here if your interested. Its about a year old I think, im about a 34 waist and have it almost as small as it will go. The only reason I would let it go is I now have a tree motion and reckon its as good. before I used a tree motion I wouldn't climb in any thing else. Any ways it here, if its of interest give me a shout and we will work out a deal Will
  12. That's the type of customer we could all do with out, He is more than welcome to go to some local village idiot, unfortunately I do believe the job of village idiot may already be taken by the man him self
  13. Thank you for pointing out my crap spelling It is a bad habit of mine to write things as they sound when scribbling my notes down to re write later, it would appear its not only when i'm scribbling my own notes Oh well if you cant laugh and be laughed at whats life got? Back to the insurance side
  14. We are looking for cover for doing lola testing. Any one got any idea who to try for professional indemnity insurance to cover it? It will only be a side line to the main arb work so little income from it to start. We are currently insured with arbor risk for our PL,EL and tools etc but they don't do PE insurance for lola testing so recommendations welcome Thanks all:thumbup1:
  15. Ours is: crosscountryservices.co.uk Seems to bring work in but then we are in quite a ocalised area that makes searching easier
  16. a bloke said to me recently "work for cash and spend it all on classic cars you wont go far wrong" But personally I couldn't answer your question, there is never any spare money after the I could do with that items
  17. Very good We sent a letter along the same lines and got payment with in 24hrs. Customer then rang up and asked if we could do another weeks work for him:001_rolleyes: he was told that we have plenty of paying customers so he was welcome to go to some one else:laugh1:
  18. porridge and a coffee or 2 for breakfast evey day. Todays box had 4 slices of bread with ham, pickle and lettuce. A Cornish pasty, a banana, a apple, bag of crisps, a chocolate bar and a slice of cake (home made and one for all the lads - this keeps our team motivated when provided with tea or coffee, they bring flask of hot water and we provide the brew kit and slice of cake) That's my standard pack up along with my flask and a couple of litres of tap juice oh and I always leave home with a tea in the thermos cup. I reckon man is only a machine, machines need fuel you got to eat and drink well or your not going to preform
  19. Ours paid for its self on first job, a week long connie bashing session, saved us paying a 4th man on a 750yrd drag:thumbup: It sits there doing nowt for weeks at a time but every time its needed its worth its gold, wouldn't be with out t now:thumbup1:
  20. Good good, I wasn't meaning to cause offence, I just got wound up teying to be competitive in a difficult market when some of the competition don't play fair I know a climber working for a big "reputable company " he had no rescue climber for 5 years and was told to walk if he didn't like it!
  21. We reply to emails in the evening every day and hope the mobile doesn't ring. I leave a day free to get round all the quotes when back. If they wont wait a few days for a quote then we wont get the job with a 6-8 week waiting list as they wont wait. for every customer that wants it done tomorrow cheaply there is another good customer waiting for you round the corner ;-)
  22. We take a stihl smart holder saw horse when we have to log every thing at end of day, this came about after a lad I know had a close one with a saw and a boot. We are on mendle boots to, not given the toe caps a second thought until now Never cut any boots in the tree, that's got to be some odd positions going on, however I am guilty of using the saw one handed at times even though I should know better. Things like this can not be a bad thing to make people think every now and again
  23. 2 inch beach stone so its not got sharp edges, will take a couple of months to bed in but once its rolled in well it doesn't move what ever you run on it and doesn't wash out with heavy rain
  24. We were much the same, ours had to go out for one week a month to pay for its self over hiring a horrible thing with blunt blades! In its first 18month it didn't sit still for more than a couple of days a month Seriously though I get the not wanting to borrow, our chipper was the first finance I had had since my first car at 18 Speak to the dealers and cost it up but also think about how much that warrantee is worth, being able to pick up the phone and say "my/your chipper has broken down fix it" is worth a fortune when the other option is a days work missed that would of paid its finance instead you spent 6 hours in the workshop losing money!
  25. Nice to see you all run with a qualified rescuce climber And no doubt if your in the mood for cutting corners your gear is all lola tested to make sure your insurance is valid I use 4 different subbies, mainly climb my self but that could be changing as we now have a good climber subieing for us. but always 2 on site to comply with hse regs with rescue climber/ lone working isnt good etc
