  1. It helps we have put 2 in before to pull back in a triangle on really unsteady ones
  2. I've never used props, never Evan given it a thought but can see its use. We use a throw line to instal a good line (old 19mm rigging line last time - well it was old and retired afterwards ) then hook the tirfor to that to hold it up. We have anchored the winch to anything available from diggers, the truck to trees or Evan a ground anchor if nothing else is available.
  3. Your on to some thing there "Lumber Camp"
  4. This is true but what ever level you are at their will always bee some one cheaper, weave all bin their. Wheel sea one day prices may rise. Isle bee off now:laugh1:
  5. A shortage of climbers? NO A shortage of good climbers? Yes very much so
  6. She is currently using the Buckingham ergovation light. She wanted the non light version as like the difference in the tree motion the non light version is a little more user friendly but we couldn't find one in this country. The chest harness is over come able and not really a biggy Good luck getting the ladies corner noticed
  7. I think your right, every one is a different shape, one of our subies hates the tree motion but I find it bang on, its all about finding the right kit to suit your size/shape/climbing style
  8. I've got a 2005 canter. Forgetting legal weights it carries far more than the cabstar a friend has got (similar age) before it looks wrong and does so faster towing a st8 than the cabstar does dragging a 750kg timber wolf Mines done 115k ish and used about half a pint of oil between the last services and pulls well. Only gripe is the canter is a rough ride empty and a little heavy to start with. Parts are a little more than some trucks but on the flip side not much falls off, I reckon our parts bill halved compared to a transit
  9. My good lady climbs in a Buckingham ergovation light - the non light isn't available with a ce mark (I will prob be corrected but we couldn't find one). The tree motion harness doesn't work for her at all, it hurts her hips big style, Sam says it doesn't fit ladies with a shape Breath flex trousers are the best sam has found but she says a higher cut waist would be nice Another challenge is the chest harness for srt doesn't fit over her ample pair the lanyard over shoulder trick works for assent but not for working on srt. Hope that helps you. It's good people are starting to take notice of the girls in our industry,
  10. That makes sense but if I can't get the supply for the larger welder(32amp supply) fitted there's no point buying it when it will do the same output as the smaller one on the same (16amp supply) I might as well save the extra £ on the larger welder if I can't ever use the top end of its capibilitys
  11. Now that's an idea, the tig isn't a issue, I can use one but haven't had the need for one since the last time. Mig and arc are the important bits to me. I will have a look and see what I can find. I don't need all singing n dancing but would rather buy quality than twice. Cheers Bob.
  12. The r tech one goes to 30 amp, that should do body work. I will look up portamig, till the sparky says what he can do it's still a open race:laugh1:
  13. No point buying it to only use half of it if I can't get a 32 amp supply I might as well buy the 180 amp one and be able to use all of its power, prob arrive at the same output amps roughly for less money and with out the chance of someone else turning it up and frying the electrics in the workshop or am I missing something? Electrics are black magic to me, any thing else I can get my head round but much more than bulbs or a plug I call in the sparky:blushing:
  14. Cheers every one. Will speak to the sparky about the 32 amp feed before deciding on size but I think the r tech 250 amp inverter mig fits my needs nicely. Hopefully the electrics won't be a prob.
  15. My arc welder has been long in the tooth for as long as I care to remember, now my mig is on its last legs I've had a quick look round and people are doing multi process welders so you get a mig and arc in the same box some Evan have tig funtion which I don't need but can use. Are they any good? The technology has moved on since I brought my last welder second hand about 10 year ago. I'm not looking for cheap rubbish but I also don't need a posh thing just a decent bit of kit that will last. My mig that's on its way is a butters but they went bust. Thinking of Lincoln electric, Oxford or migatronic kind of quality if any one has any recommendations of machines or good dealers on the south coast Ideally I want 170 - 200 amp mig and maybe a little higher arc. Only single phase, ideally 16amp supply but a 30 amp could be sorted if it has to be. Cheers Will
  16. I'm not interested in the brand debate just saying look further than the main 2 brands, I think it all comes down to your local dealer and what they offer. There will be bargains to be had on line second hand but wadeing through the rest of the tosh to find them takes time, I would rather spend my time earning money to buy new and know what I've got.
  17. If your on a budget look at Echo or dolmar. Both cheaper than stihl or husky but just as good value for money. As to safety kit like saws on eBay are either in the large had it or not been paid for
  18. You have just worked it out
  19. What's the problem, I carry all he is asking for in the truck, plus employers liability. We should educate people to ask more often and raise the bar in our under valued industry to do away with the chancers or make them raise there game and join the real world. Cough up or be looked at as a cow boy would be my answer
  20. It gets easier, our eldest is a keen brash monkey in the school holidays, and our youngest isn't far behind
  21. One innocent (but wrong ) comment and look where it's all ended up, story of my life that is
  22. Vaseline may help as it has some protection from uv or so I've been told
  23. We run 8-10 week lead time, the right customers will wait for the right contractor. The wrong customer is the best thing to "give" to the compition
  24. Kaskara kills most woody things, Evan licenced for stump treatment. Only thing I've found it struggle with is semi mature Holme Oak, but after a second treatment they turned belly up.
