  1. We burnt a patch about 15' square out of a potato store welding a elevator up that was loading the store, we got very lucky. It was back before camera phones so no pics I'm afraid.
  2. Sprayed foam and grinding sparks / weld splatter don't mix very well either dont ask just just trust me on this one
  3. Unfortunately we are on the Isle of Wight so it's a not a time issue but a costly affair to go and try Boots on and typically I didn't need any when we were at the arb show.
  4. Good morning, Am sure this topic has been covered many times before but very little coming up when I search, can you recommend which chainsaw boots are a wide fit please. The website descriptions don't really answer this and unfortunately we have no nearby suppliers to try them on so don't want to spend lots of money returning items. I have had the Arbortec Scafell Boots for the last 18months but after being worn every working day they are now showing signs of wear and was thinking about something different this time. I have just tried the Stein Defenders but they are too narrow. Thanks in advance for your recommendations. Mrs Will C
  5. Put what you like on a trailer as long as your within your weight/size limits and the load is secured properly
  6. Is this not the point of spikes? Youth of today need a old bt pole belt and some 3 strand for a week or until they learn not every gadget is needed Some "gadgets" are a god send some are just trying to remover your hard earned from your pocket I personally think spike ascenders are in the latter group:thumbdown:
  7. The Sugihara bars I've got have outlasted stihl ones by double so far and still going strong I won't be buying anything else in the future. As a further plus the customer service and advice Rob offers is second to none:thumbup1:
  8. 460 here direct from predator. Couple of minor niggles but excellent service and a well built machine
  9. Any plans for a tracked version of the cs100 from Greenmech? Italian stuff will soon have import duty on it:lol: Looks like a handy bit of kit and we run a 8" machine
  10. So your asking a uninsured, unqualified mate to drop your mums tree? The next thread will be about making the industry looked at better by the public or complaining about some ***** pinching there job and that's with out handing out invertations Ffs
  11. Friend of the family is milk n 2, next week your mate will be in to help you: out Any one else, most of you are to cheap in my humble, by the time you have got there done it packed up, got to the next job and unpacked the gear again you have lost 2+ hours so at £70 your working for £30 -£35/hour for a fully kitted out tree team inc insurance labour gear etc work out your overheads and tell me you can earn on that (unless you have 7 or more in a row for the day inside a couple of miles)
  12. It's free to tax a tractor so no major drama if you need to
  13. Bigger chipper means less snedding and less conifer timber left. The difference in fuel to tow extra 1/4 or 1/2 ton is more than made up for in my opinion.
  14. Food for thought. Once again Reg you have made a good number of people think about what they do. We all have our own bad habits, to be made to think about them is only a good thing, keep at it sir. I've had a close one single handed but still do it, just now with a lot more respect for the machine and more fore thought of do I need to?
  15. Petrol is a no go until we have access to it on the same terms as red diesel
  16. I agree with you on that mick. Evan worse is if one of the team doesn't stop pacing up n down. My other pet hate is facebook etc when working. Nowt against phones in moderation but going off every 10seconds because some one farted or made a sandwich is just beyond me:thumbdown:
  17. It helps we have put 2 in before to pull back in a triangle on really unsteady ones
  18. I've never used props, never Evan given it a thought but can see its use. We use a throw line to instal a good line (old 19mm rigging line last time - well it was old and retired afterwards ) then hook the tirfor to that to hold it up. We have anchored the winch to anything available from diggers, the truck to trees or Evan a ground anchor if nothing else is available.
  19. Your on to some thing there "Lumber Camp"
  20. This is true but what ever level you are at their will always bee some one cheaper, weave all bin their. Wheel sea one day prices may rise. Isle bee off now:laugh1:
  21. A shortage of climbers? NO A shortage of good climbers? Yes very much so
  22. She is currently using the Buckingham ergovation light. She wanted the non light version as like the difference in the tree motion the non light version is a little more user friendly but we couldn't find one in this country. The chest harness is over come able and not really a biggy Good luck getting the ladies corner noticed
  23. I think your right, every one is a different shape, one of our subies hates the tree motion but I find it bang on, its all about finding the right kit to suit your size/shape/climbing style
