  1. Fell, grind stump out and replant. 3 pay days and problem solved, win win. Or brace and pollard then get work to re pollard every 5-7 years Evan more wins as the tree remains as well.
  2. I will try again mine was P.i.kE.y
  3. Get the hammer down, you've got to pull it straight if you break when it's snaking you might as well give it the trailer the driving seat. It's scary pulling hard when you want to slow but it works
  4. ***** I climb on a hitch climber and rope wrench for access and work. Usually with a tip tie but a base anchor does have its uses for access but I'm worried about it being open to damage when working (from groundie and dropped material from climber) We tend to pick a anchor with rope over it tie a running bolan with a ring on the rope to prevent rope to rope chaffing. On the tail of the bolan we hook a second climbing line via a crab for rope reteveal, this line can also be used for rescue access as long as the climber still has weight in the first rope. Once access is made the second line needs retiring or the reducer uses there nor all climbing line to conduct the rescue. I can get pics if this doesn't make sense I would be interested in your survey but can't find it.
  5. Second tree, wind comes from the right on this one. Any ideas as to what it is if not wind burn? The customer wants to save the second one if poss but open to removal and replanting with a native tree if it's a lost cause. Thanks for any help Will.
  6. Leaves
  7. I went and looked at 2 uke trees yesterday that on first impressions had bad wind / salt burn (they are only 1/4 mile max from the coast and burnt on the right side for the prevailing wind from the sea.) On closer inspection the lower branches are also dying back from the tips and all the leafs are covered in black spots, some with the top half of each leaf dead, and crusty. Here Is one of the trees, wind comes from left of pic, lower growth on left is a cherry under it.
  8. Not trying to stir the pot any more but when the op sorts his insurance he also needs to realise that with out a second climber, all gear loler tested and correct Cs tickets or equilevant there is a good chance the insurance won't be valid. So when Mrs x house gets broke and he goes bust cause his insurance washes there hands of it I'm sure it won't be his fault Any I'm sure he will be out tarmacing shortly so my effort to help a educate will be wasted. ( tounge in cheek) And yes customers can be a pain you need to nip it in the bud for everyone's sake
  9. Shame he hasn't got 2, it would be worth the trip then Honestly do people really believe that it's worth owt? I charge extra if I have to climb one of the horrible things:sneaky2:
  10. Well done mate, if your investing that much in a job you have only just begun in you will go far. Fear is a good thing it keeps you safe, it makes you stop and think. I assume you come from a tree family? Remember to play safe, and have a second climber on site. As long as you listen n learn from those who have seen it all before you will be a asset to any tree team looking at how far you've got for your age
  11. Look up these guys Arbor Venture Training Arboriculture Courses and Assessments A good bunch and very good training, we won't go any where else
  12. A good read thank you
  13. I put the phone down and ran the 201t next to it full chat, not had any more calls for 6 weeks now Sometimes the use of a top handle saw on the ground is perfectly exceptable
  14. The other advantage of the rope guide is one section of it is also a fall arrest system so when/if you fall off your pirch it's going to lessen the shock loading on your gear and body. I've not got the cacoon on mine and it comes out no bother from the ground as long as you pay attention and put it in right Excellent bit of kit and worth the money.
  15. This is what puts me off growing any bigger, it can be very hard to find good team players:confused1:
  16. I can see what you are getting at, even if every body took on board just a small part it would be a huge step forward. Today's tree had a small piece of dead wood sticking out into a hedge it was only 10" long by 3 inch round. It took longer to explaine how much benefit that tiny piece of wood had for the Eco system compaired to the fact the customer couldn't see it till they came for a closer look. They eventually understood and the small piece of dead wood remains, a small step but I hope another person educated that the garden need not be sterile!
  17. We use this 3.6m Pole Pruner Kit Works well with sectional poles our record is 32ft of poles which gets a little unwealdy
  18. I've been known to bore a slit through a small trunk about 3-4 inch thick, you can then push the engine slightly to one side to nip the bar in the tree and with a arm either side of the tree sharpen away. This has come in handy in the tree on big takedowns when you don't come down all day. I will try to get a pic for you to explaine.
  19. We say "there is a fine line between hero and idiot and you just got close to it" or "you crossed the line again you idiot" the word idiot can be changed depending on how far the line was crossed every needs telling at times, those that can't admit it are far to pig headed to be part of our team. Reckon your al right on that one joe
  20. Yes and yes, I live in both
  21. Good point well made. It's not a seat but more a table:thumbup:
  22. Folding chairs! What ever next??? in a transit that is already over weight you can't expect them to carry chairs or more than 3 cones, where would the jack Russell sit? And they couldn't possibly leave the tarmacing gear behind to make space they might get a cash job on the way home! THINK before you speak man
  23. I'm interested and have been watching quietly from the corner as I can't help, but I'm always happy to learn, monkey see monkey do and all that
  24. Unless it's dangerous we carry on. There is no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes. Somebody famous said that but I can't remember who!
  25. Cheers Bob. Will have to look into that. Might have to wait till I decide what to upgrade the grinder to rather than jump in and find it won't sharpen the new teeth.
