Does anyone even know what COP stands for ?? ( conference of parties to save you looking !!)...many ideas floating on here , and elsewhere no doubt ...but little things will be of no use I think , perhaps we will have to give up things like flying unless for important reasons , minimal holidays ,no golf trips to the Algarve , Skiing ,Stag nights in Amsterdam , watching cricket ,rugby F1 etc in far flung places , Disney world ....perhaps we should ban any new larger than needed cars .. sorts cars ,4x4 unless business , VW vans for leisure use , no big tv's , no new larger than needed houses or other status symbol type excesses , I have always had motorbikes should I give them up? I ride mostly for fun , therefore just wasting fuel , but what would happen to the economy ...motorcycle dealers close down , no mechanics etc ? same for Pilots of planes and the Aviation industry ? Who will make such self sacrifices for the greater good ?? or will there be a clumsy set of rules imposed upon us ? No one will like it ,and will the rich / celebrities give up all their excesses as good role models ...then what will we do with our money , what incentive will there be to get out of bed in the morning ? I think everyone realises something needs to be done , but who does what , and to what extent ?

It is a great shame if the worst happens , but I suspect the staff will end up still doing line clearance in a different T shirt ( another company ) or else Electricity company will be without tree cutting gangs and it would take ages to build that back from scratch with a new company / or expanding other ones !! so many tickets required !!

I recently finished this garden bench , had the idea in my head for a while just a matter of selecting / finding suitable pieces , made from what I know as bone Oak from Stagheaded trees or just dead limbs in the interior of the crown , lots of character , very strong and decay resistant ...I may oil it next spring or leave as is ..lightly bleached ... posing in front of my Parthenocisus tricuspidata !!

it is just the way employment law is nowadays ...government changed the criteria by which such things are quantified to help reduce tax/ NI losses to the treasury and to help protect employees rights .

good grief that is expensive !! circa £10 per acre is the usual going rate , but woodland rarely comes up for sale ...probably snapped up by cornishman who just sold a cottage for half a million ( to a non local buyer of course )

you forgot to mention that whilst waiting to be unloaded that you have to hand your keys over , and sit in the lorry with no radio , unable to open close windows etc because they assume we are so bloody thick that we will drive off part way through being loaded / unloaded !!! or you can sit and wait in their waiting room , which is usually utterly boring . empty with hard bench seats ...

Does any body think that EU lorry drivers will even want to come to the UK ?? Pay will not be much better than many other EU countries , housing costs in the UK is high , and hard to get and then poor , the roads are complex and congested with many different rules and regs , they will probably be made to feel unwelcome by UK drivers , language barriers , driving on the other side of the road ......I think it is a fantasy and times are very different to when the Polish first came here years ago ...

I know one HGV driving trainer that I did my test with , who had fairly steady business for decades but then less and less learners because EU drivers were already trained ( to their own questionable standards ) so not much work for instructors , now even if many candidates came forward there are not enough trainers !!

why do you think it is the Governments responsibility ? it is up to the industry surely ? would you blame the Government if there was a shortage of Tree Surgeons ? not really there responsibility is it !! ??

The suggestion that to allow EU drivers to come over to help is a bit pointless as I doubt many would even be interested , who would move to another country for what is quite possibly short term work , not really that well paid and where will they live ?? very costly and hard to get housing and I understand there is a shortage of drivers in most EU countries as well ...

for many many years it was almost impossible to get a job driving tankers , best paid , easiest work there is !! A lot of h&s stuff , so not just a case of getting another untrained driver in !! Also , although there are more tests available now they is still not many driver trainers !! hardly needed for years because EU drivers came already qualified, so trainers are few and far between and again it takes some time to become an HGV driving instructor !!!

looks like you will not need to take a towing test from 20 sept this year !! same rules as pre 1997 license ...

that is perhaps just a different way of looking at statistics !! Any job has the potential to affect your health one way or another , also a great deal depends on what your life style is as well as your job ...also there are many jobs now that never existed not that long ago !!

I believe the current training of drivers is excellent and they acquire all the skills needed to drive safely , it is just the ATTITUDE of some that is a problem !!!! Young drivers seem a lot better than the mature ones , esp those driving well known German brands !! Yes the lanes of Devon are a challenge ( I drive only rigid 25 ton ) but I would find it bloody boring up and down motorways all day !! I heard an interview on the Radio of an "ice trucker " from the US and they could not believe how drivers in this country cope with the roads , small villages , steep hills , sharp bends , so many junctions / roundabouts and congestion and could not understand why they do not make a similar programme about trucking in the UK !! I only drive part time and on the whole find it pretty easy ...sat down staring out the window listening to the radio is not too challenging !!

I remember seeing breeze blocks being delivered to building sites years ago they were just dumped from a tipper , many broke and a labourer / hod carrier had to stack / shift them around ...very different nowadays ...thank god !!! When I started tree work , mid 80's no one had a chipper locally and everything was stacked as high as possible in back of truck ( if not burnt on site ) and then tipped off at a burning site ....those were the days !!😱 did not know any different though and happily accepted it as part of the job then ....
