  1. why is this of concern to you ?, Do you not live in France ?
  2. Not asking in a serious way but ....if your tree branches are over a neighbours property , and you take your own tree down can you ( legally ) drop branches overhanging neighbours garden in their garden and leave them there for them to dispose of ??
  3. I think there is a right of access in some cases ...for example ...being allowed to put a ladder on neighbours land to get to gutter , window etc Going onto your neighbour's land | MyLawyer WWW.MYLAWYER.CO.UK
  4. your online rope supplier, ropelocker WWW.ROPELOCKER.CO.UK Buy rope at ropelocker pretty sure they can do it ...
  5. Your neighbour can cut off branches back to boundary ...at their expense !! You are under no obligation to do so . If the tree has a TPO it is less straight forward , an application will be required and if it is deemed it will ruin tree of high amenity value then it may well be declined. A common mis belief in this circumstance is that the neighbour can return the branches to you ..this is not true , he should "offer " them to you but if you do not want them he has to keep them or dispose of them at his expense , he has no right to just throw them back over the wall !! Not many contractors like doing this type of job !!
  6. I have been riding bikes for about 45 years now , and this is my latest !! I have had plenty of Hondas and they are fantastically reliable . Like with chainsaws people ask for recommendations then buy some chinese shit which goes wrong quickly !!
  7. Quite a few times people have asked me to recommend a saw which I usually do ....for whatever suits their application .... then they completely ignore my advice and get some horrible cheap nasty chinese shit because " its a no brainer aint it " £90 "cant go wrong with that " ... inevitably they find it does not last .....or worse still ask if i can have a look at it as it is not running quite right ....can you guess my response ????😄
  8. I am pretty sure I saw their Unimog and chipper on the back of a lorry today ...I think they had their own Artic for shifting plant etc so a pretty big firm I would of thought ...seen them on some pretty big roadside jobs A30 / 38 ....
  9. not unexpected but sad all the same .......a very important event , in fact the 2020's so far have been incredible , for all the wrong reasons !!!
  10. I have a camping kettle from mountain warehouse that I heat water with..used mostly for washing up not the cooking , and for filling flasks etc ....if your woodburner is in your lounge would you really want to cook on it ?? smells , mess etc ...
  11. my gas a leccy combined are just under £100 a month now ,( 3 bed semi ) I use a woodburner mostly for heating and most of my hot water in winter ....a great deal will depend on the weather this winter ...also it makes a big difference where in the country you live as I am sure an old farm house on a hill up north will cost loads more than a modern flat in Penzance !!
  12. Yes , if the wood has tendency to warp you will not stop it !! as you say ..log quality , the middle needs to be in the middle ( this refers to the growth rings being centralised and minimal reaction wood as in leaning trees ) Warping is why wide flat boards of certain species fetch good money ..as they are rare !!
  13. Good question ....it is like a lot of things , manufacturing or providing a service etc ....being able to actually sell goods or services is the toughest part !!! Perhaps let local tree work companies know as they often replace felled trees , I see quite a few on facebook marketplace , landscapers / gardeners ....garden centres may well want certificates for plant health / provenance etc and a continuous supply guarantee as well as not paying up front .....thought of doing this myself !!
  14. There may not be a great police presence , but lots of people now have dashcams who are happy to send footage to the police of bad driving which is becoming increasingly more common , bad drivers often seem oblivious to this fact !!!! It is unrealistic to expect police everywhere all the time so it will become more common for road users to "police" one another ...esp cyclists ...
  15. but no one new electricity would get that expensive , it , and gas were cheap , and no one knows what it will be in a year or two either ... forward planning is very difficult , also new builds have much better insulation than old properties ...
  16. this shows electricity and gas ..... also do not forget the income tax rates of most of these countries are higher than ours ..so at the end of the day it is hard to do a comparison in context to the cost of living ... Soaring energy prices: How does the UK compare with Europe? WWW.EURONEWS.COM The UK's energy bills will jump by 80% a year from October, it was announced today. But how do Britain's energy prices compare to those in Europe? Who in Europe is paying the...
  17. most of Scandinavia avoided the worst of Covid because they locked down before many had it , also in Jan /Feb very few visit those countries unlike other EU countries and especially the UK !!! I too have Doctors / Consultants in the family and believe what they tell me !!
  18. Although there are issues some may see as problems ....the Industry is very robust at the moment I think , plenty of work , never known so many companies etc , sadly much of that due to ADB , which will greatly reduce in the near / middle future , we have never had better gear and techniques for doing the job , the Industry is pretty competitive , with most contractors trying too be as efficient and hard working as is reasonably practical , the main issue I believe is for future planning ,, what will it be like in a few years time as I doubt anyone thought a few years ago that we would be in the position we are now !!! Also for many the issue of a Yard /Base to operate from which is available , secure and affordable is a big issue ....There does seem to be a pretty high staff turnover and it takes time and money to replace good people , do some employers just expect too much from their staff ? some I know start early and work very hard until job is done, or squeezing in a second job even if it means working late to ensure that they are the most competitive , although this may be good from the business owners point of view I often hear staff ...and especially subbies ... moan that it is "unreasonable " ...
  19. This was only a days work ...a lot of sanding ☹️mate supplied the Sequoia planks and engraving was done by a workshop with big fancy machine ...
  20. supply of water is the cheap bit ,,,water companies take our sewage away and treat it ..that is what costs the most !!
  21. I have enough work to do , but I am not doing it as it is too hot !! at the beach a few times a week now , maybe a few trips in a nice aircon Scania ...trees can wait , been there for bloody years whats the rush !!😂
