  1. Also what do you think it says about European countries when their young people leave their own country do do a "menial " job over here, some of whom are well qualified . Also a great number ( perhaps too many ) of our own people have degrees etc and have gone in to professions instead of labouring jobs , it was the success of our economy that created the need for such jobs , I have heard from Polish people I know that a lot of jobs back home in Poland were filled by Ukrainians , all this to me shows that the "free movement of labour " is /was a very flawed concept , one of the reasons so many become disillusioned with the EU !!! both here and in Europe ...
  2. Is everyone in Europe better off doing the basic jobs ?? some may pay higher but taxes are higher and I have been to plenty of places in Europe that has shitty housing and more than it's fair share of dodgy layabouts !! the ones that have come here from Poland for example are the younger more dynamic individuals on the whole and are not typically representative of their countrymen , plenty of Brits are hard working and have gone to Europe and beyond because of their skills and determination , I am sure all the Norwegians do not think all the jocks are like Trigger 🤣
  3. I think you may be overlooking the Benefits system for EMPLOYED people in this country ..Working family tax credits , Child allowance etc etc all helps make a minimum wage comfortably livable !
  4. If they have been ringed then surely this would of been recorded somewhere by an official organisation and where did the birds go ??, and you are right about the borderline obsessive bird spotters !! In reality it would be best if they nest elsewhere as they cause considerable issues as you have discovered !! same with such things as bats and dormice !! Where in the country are you ?
  5. Slad ,,, those are very clear images and shows equipment , I am sure your local wildlife crimes officer would be interested in them , if not then there is little hope . How did anyone know the birds were there ?? The local raptor group could be useful as they will be watching it a lot , even from a distance . Where in the country are you ??
  6. it is also quite likely they will nest in the same place each year unless significant change to woodland . Were they nesting in mature Douglas firs ? if so not just anyone can /will climb such a tree so it could be likely that they were experienced at this , another site near me had chicks stolen as I believe they are a desired species by hawkers etc ...
  7. very common on Monterey Cypress on the coast around my way !!
  8. seems you are quids in .....thanks to brexit !!!!!!!!!😂
  9. ???? I doubt very few in the Arb industry make £20 an hour ( employed , or SE after expenses etc ), and you seem to imply shelf stackers do !!, the training to drive a lorry is cheaper and quicker to do than arb certs . I gather you work in the oil industry but do you have any comprehension of the real world ?? £20 an hour is £40k per annum for a 40 hour week and the national average is about £25 k !!
  10. Slad .....I have had Goshawks nesting in land adjacent to mine ( FC guidance is a 400m radius zone of no forestry operations ) in early nesting period from Feb - Aug ( distance reduced) which is very , very inconvenient to say the least to landowners !! I think it would be very difficult in law to prove reckless / intentional disturbance if you carry out actions which you do all year round anyway which are classed as background noise ( they do not expect roads to be closed , or people to not use footpaths etc ) in reality the birds really belong in remote areas but the problems arise when they nest closer to human activity and there are very zealous birdspotters who seem to not care about owners rights , just the law to their beloved birds which may in effect backfire on them as very few land owners would want such restriction imposed upon them every year they nest !!
  11. supermarkets are NOT paying £20 per hour , some agency workers might get that for Sundays or nights !!
  12. funny how there is now a petition on "safety" for drivers about increased hours ...in the early stages of the pandemic they were effectively scrapped ( temporarily ) and before that the speed on single carriageways was increased from 40 -50 mph but no "out cry " then !! I drive a lorry a couple of days a week nowadays and although the hourly rate is poor it is easy to do 10 -11 hours a day which gives a similar income to tree work for little effort !! sat down staring out the window listening to the radio , also many places I deliver too must be awful places to work ( big distribution centres , builders merchants etc ) and they are minimum wage and a 40 hr week ....there are loads of shit jobs out there but that's life !!
  13. could well be a Nothofagus ....surely there are some leaves around ..no one cleans up that well 😁
  14. so what exactly would a nuisance be to permit works to a TPO tree without application ? some owners may interpret this as " right to light " for example but i doubt that it gives any one right to carry out works without approval ...
  15. surely you can't just go ahead and do the work though ? would an application be required and justification for work ( unless immediate danger ) ..
  16. not deer though ...unfortunately ...
  17. I am a bit bewildered not only by the seemingly light punishment ...but by the fact a " labourer" was sent to fell tree ! does he have necessary certs etc etc ...as Goshawks nest in large trees not shrubs !!
  18. Just because it has a TPO does not mean it can't be felled , you need to seek permission stating reasons / justification , a report from a tree specialist would help in this scenario .
  19. the tyres were poor in those days ...compared to today...
  20. any one felling a tree this time of year should check for nests ( in tree or where it will land ) as the report says it is huge and very hard to miss ...most probably owner would of been informed of it's presence !!
  21. that is very odd !! I own some woodland and a Goshawk has nested in there in the past ( in a neighbours woodland more recently ) and I was informed that no forestry operations are permitted within 400 metres , which effectively made my own land out of bounds for 4-5 months , which displeased me greatly !! I was strongly advised by local raptor group ( bird of prey spotters ) and police wildlife officer about the severity of offence if i was to even disturb it , let alone deliberately fell tree with nest in !!!
  22. nowadays everyone ( almost ) is encouraged to be sensitive and thoughtful and care about everything and everyone which is mostly positive but makes people easily upset and in a way " soft " ( not a criticism )
  23. are they fetching a better price and selling well ?? had a few nice big ones a couple of weeks ago ...my lovely other half did Crab Mac ( Nigellas recipe ) was really , really nice 😋
  24. most only fall over once though 😂
  25. I just remembered the cladding is Elm as well !! I have used old engine oil to paint / treat timber with and it is a lovely colour when first done . if done when it is dry it soaks in well so as not to be messy to touch ...
