  1. I was returning home on Thursday morning from doing a job for a friend, stopped at a garage to check tyre pressures for the 240 mile trip to the APF, pulled up at home and knew the washer bottle needed filling, grabbed a watering can, filled it up, grabbed the container of screen wash, lifted bonnet, started pouring in screenwash and thought,"Hang on a minute, that smells like chip oil!" Sure enough, I had picked up the old screenwash container that I had drained the deep fat fryer in to a few months ago!!!!!!!! Luckily, not too much had gone in so I used blue tissue stuffed down the neck of the washer bottle to soak it up and after about a dozen attempts had majority of it out. Then put a good amount of washing up liquid in and warm water and sat with the wash wipe on until bottle emptied, then repeated. Glad to say did not end up with any oil on windscreen, just wasted an hour!
  2. Thanks for the advice on boots Justin, I ended up buying the Stein ones after walking round your stand in them for about 20 minutes!

  4. I had a call on Wednesday from the following number - 01612282134. The guy called himself Marvin and said he was phoning from Google. He stated he could guarantee I would appear in top five when somebody searched for firewood in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I was bit suspicious as he was very unprofessional in the manner and language he used. Eventually got round to price - £125 plus vat for a month, no commitment, etc so I said ring tomorrow when I've had to think about it. He then got quite shirty saying he only had one place left, I had to decide today and he only had a few numbers to ring so it would go. I replied I did not respond to pressurised sales tactics and he took offence saying he wasn't pressurising me - but I had to take it now or max within the hour!! And that wasn't putting pressure on me!! Needless to say I didn't take it. I rang the lad he recently revamped my web site and he said it sounded too much for Google and I mentioned it to Steve Bulman at the APF and thought it was a scam. Have just googled the number and there are a few sites relating to this number confirming it is a scam so do not give any bank details out.

  6. From the thread title - "full body WARP" - I was expecting a horribly twisted pick up but that looks much better! Just don't park it in the woods or might not find it again!!
  7. M Large in Ireland are the main importers so should provide spares back up as well.
  8. I just ordered a new .325 chain and bar from Rob last week and 4.5mm - 11/32 files for them.

    Help??

We put a bid on a JCB - story was the guy was Greek, his brother in Aberdeen had died and he had to sell the JCB as was returning to Greece. I rang ebay helpline (thats a misnamed dept if ever there was one!!) and asked on here and its a scam. Few weeks later saw a tractor advertised on Gumtree in Gateshead, a few mile from me and when I contacted the guy he said it was his dads, it was in Belfast whilst he was in Spain! I searched Gumtree a few days later and saw it advertised in every area from Newcastle to York so reported it.
  10. In June I paid £43 plus VAT delivered and I would say it is 98% below 14 inch diameter so will be fine for my processor and then just last week I got some more from a different source at £35 roadside, again largely okay for the machine but the bits that are big ARE BIG (to me anyway!!).
  11. Land Rover did not produce the 110 double cab until the late 1990s and the 300TDi was not introduced until 1994 so somebody has obviously modified it at some time. I would have thought a 1989 Land Rover would only be worth £2500 to £4000 in fair to good condition.
  12. I would imagine you could easily spend more money on changing the vehicle, insurance costs, etc than it would actually save you in fuel because lets face it, a really useful four wheel drive that is really economical doesn't exist! Keep what you've got - it sounds like it performs the roles you need a vehicle for and you know the vehicle and what's been done to it.
  13. Thought you Unimog lovers may find the attached link interesting: Bob Ragain: Unimog Meets Alaskan | Truck Camper Magazine
  14. Sorry to hear that Darren. There are opportunists everywhere but its a bad state of affairs when you cannot leave stuff lying around your own premises. I,ll keep my eyes open.
  15. As the cost works out at less than £1 per day and most people spend more than that on the paper, cup of coffee, cigarettes, beer, etc I don't think there is an argument for not wearing them.
  16. I would 've thought that as a decent pair of wellies can cost £100 ( and a lot more if you want Hunter or Le Chameau) chainsaw boots are actually quite cheap considering the protection they provide.
  17. You'll have to have deep pockets, woodland aint cheap. John Clegg &amp Co Chartered Surveyors - A dedicated nationwide team handling all aspects of the rural property market Woodlands for sale in the UK including Kent, Surrey, Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, North Wales, South Wales, Mid Wales & Scotland
  18. I would certainly have a look at Riko*UK*::* Domestic We have the 12 ton splitter with electric motor so no need for a tractor and its been a great bit of kit. In 3 years there has been nothing it wont split, it splits stuff my Palax processor doesnt like and is really well built. Only downside is it weighs a ton and is very hard to move around!
  19. These look interesting - not sure on volume and if could stack them when full. They fold up when not required so could handy. Flat pack metal pallet cages Miscellaneous from Ramco UK Limited
  20. I used a company called Dolphin Tooling based near Darlington, about two years ago. They collected the blade, sharpened it and dropped it off for £12!
  21. When using it, you should not take readings from the end of the log. The correct method is to split the log and take a reading from the fresh cut face.
  22. My friends collie Grace rounding up pheasant poults One of my gardening clients border terrier Meg, lovely dog with personality (still doesn't forget I accidently threw her favourite ball over the fence - two years ago!!) Another clients golden retriever demonstrating that at thirteen she still knew how to have fun (sadly passed away a few months back) And Tip, a working farm dog who if he was ever clean would be the most beautiful collie dog ever!
  23. The guy who does my chainsaw repairs/resharps has started selling these as they were about the only make he could source that have nothing to do with China, they are built completely in Italy. Even the smaller Stihls are built in China now apparently and I think I saw "Made in China" on a Husqavana box. I think he was doing the top handled saw for under £300. I have his contact details if any one is interested.
  24. Small article in the September 4x4 Magazine, page 87 (just opposite an article on my Ranger on page 86!!) regarding the towing capacity of the Toyota Hilux. Apparantly, Toyota's Technical Department have stated one of the ways they determine the towing capacity is by performing an emergency braking test and from this they calculate the ratio of towing weight to gross vehicle weight and 2250KG is the max weight allowed under their test based on the vehicle being used on a global basis. Toyota GB have made a successful UK braking test with the Vehicle Certification Agency to increase the legal towing limit for double cabs and extra cabs to 2800KG. They therefore claim the Hilux can legally tow 2800KG in the UK - however they cannot market this as the warranty is provided through Toyota Motor Corp and they are not prepared to increase the weight as their test is a lot more challenging. So whilst it can legally tow 2800, the warranty would be invalidated if an issue arose through the vehicle towing more than 2250. Might be of interest to some of you.
  25. If its the FFIS scheme, I was informed the second round which closed on 17 July was the last ever, there will be no more. Personally, I think a new scheme with a different name will be out again next year.
