  1. They are in Cumbria so should be plenty of b&bs around. Not sure if you to live in Cumbria to qualify for these prices - be best to contact them to find out.
  2. Remember seeing this in one of the mags a few years back: Land Rover Discovery 6x6 9 seat V8 auto | eBay
  3. £325 in Cumbria for CS32/34 Cumbria Woodlands - Training
  4. Thats a beaut Difflock, would really want one of them if I win the lottery. They just look such a strong, usuable work truck. Tom Sheppard has exactly the same, uses it for overland travel having dropped Land Rover after many years. Oh, just seen all the other pics;I see why they call you Difflock now! 3 G Wagens is being a bit greedy isn't it? I've been a fan of the G Wagen since the early 1980s but always had Land Rovers up until June 2011 when I bought a Ford Ranger.
  5. 17 acres for £30k seems cheap these days. Usually £3 - £5k per acre
  6. Lets see pictures of said Steyr Daimler Puch van then Difflock!!
  7. I would say your spot on. Timber I am processing is two years old, mixed ash, beech, oak and moisture content about 25%. Pick up load is just over a cube and on the weighbridge it comes in about 440 - 460kgs.
  8. My wife and I are planning to return to Vancouver Island next year. I have relatives in Nanaimo and we last visited in 1999. As well as visiting places on the island such as Victoria, Port Alberni and Tofino we spent a few days in Vancouver - can recommend visits to Grouse Mountain and Capalongo Suspension bridge - and a week near Kelowna on the mainland. What I would say is avoid June - they were calling it Junuary when we were there because it was cold and rained most days and it was the first year the Calgary stampede had to be cancelled - in early July - because of snow!! We are hoping to go in July next year. No matter where you go I can guarantee you will love Canada.
  9. Watched it last night and thought it was the best Bond film in a long time, although by the time I had sat through twenty minutes of Skyfall/Bond themed adverts at the start, I had seen most of the high lights!!
  10. That's cool,like that a lot!!
  11. I have a Stihl MS260 purchased off ebay two years and I love it. Very easy to start and its a good worker.
  12. Looks good, when's the grand opening? Does the first person through the door called Derek get a free Stilh MS362????
  13. Thanks for the replies guys, I will look into getting a pipe on the exhaust tout suite! Someone told me diesel fumes produced carbon monoxide but someone else has said they don't, only petrol fumes do. So TimberCutter, could you clarify please?
  14. I use a Palax KS35 powered by a Ford 4610 tractor. I am really lucky in that my friend lets me process inside his huge nice dry shed and the tractor is his dads. Two queries though: 1) I've certainly been a lot more aware of the exhaust fumes recently from the tractor. You cannot see them but after a couple of hours I can certainly smell them. I tend to wear a dust mask when processing but find it difficult to keep over my nose as it then steams my glasses up! I was thinking of putting a flexible pipe on the exhaust and running it through the gap in the panels. Anybody do anything differently if processing indoors? 2) As I said, the tractor is my friends dads and he doesnt use it a lot and doesnt mind me using it but I have been toying with buying my own. However, someone else suggested a Lister engine with a hydraulic pump on it to connect to the processor hydraulics. Has anybody tried this in the past with any success? Any thoughts or ideas gratefully received.
  15. At a recent eco show I was displaying at, everybody we talked to asked where the logs came from and were pleased when we could name the local estates we had bought timber in from. I recently picked up a new customer who refused to buy logs from his local garden centre as they were from Russia so I think a lot of the buying public do mind where there wood comes from.
  16. I bought one of these from Machine Mart for stripping the boards off the pallets but it only works if the base rails are less than a few inches wide. http://www.screwfix.com/p/roughneck-demolition-lifting-bar-5-x-38/42395?cm_mmc=Google-_-Product%20Listing%20Ads-_-Sales%20Tracking-_-sales%20tracking%20url&gclid=CJShlPXLlLMCFSTKtAodDVcAwA
  17. Just bought a pair of these Mark: ARKTIS OFFICIAL - RAIN-SHIELD TROUSER - LIMITED STOCK AT HUGE DISCOUNT | eBay No zips down the side but for a fiver thought there were worth a punt.
  18. The clues in the title - BBC4!!
  19. New series starting Wednesday at 8.30pm "Writer and woodsman Rob Penn takes on a project to restore the Strawberry Cottage Wood, Monmouthshire". Start of a six part series, might be worth a look. Just found: http://www.robpenn.net/
  20. Yeah, I noticed that as well. It belonged to a landscaping company who had a matching 110 dropside and a six wheel 130 dropside. I have got photos of these but for some reason they are all pixalated. Will have to see if I can restore them somehow.
  21. 5% to the end user or 20% if they are selling it on. See section 7 HM Revenue & Customs
  22. I currently use a friends JCB loading shovel with pallet forks on. In the past have used a tracked dumper with crane (which is the one Steve Blair now has) and a Brunnet forwarder. Should know by the end of the month if we have been successful with a grant application for a forestry trailer and crane and if so will use that. The Kesla trailer and crane was our first choice but having seen a Vreteen at the APF we may change our choice!!
  23. In two years no one has asked me for softwood Sue so I would just stock kindling made of softwood. When customers ring I always offer them kindling so it helps to boost sales. You can either buy it in or I put up a load of nets during the summer using pallets I got for free.
  24. I've got one of these and would say its one of the best jackets I have bought (and goodness knows my wife would say I've bought a few!!). Its lightweight, waterproof, plenty pockets and has a four year guarantee. Its not warm but but has plenty room underneath for a fleece. Arktis Smock/Parka - Country Covers
  25. One of my local competitors delivers kiln dried logs but I have supplied a few of his customers with my seasoned timber and they say mine lasts a lot longer, their stoves burn much better with my logs, they look nicer and are cheaper. Personally, I dont see why something else should be burnt to power a kiln to dry wood that is then going to be burnt. Also, if you store kiln dried logs outside, it is my understanding they start taking moisture back in.
