  1. I would certainly have a look at Riko*UK*::* Domestic We have the 12 ton splitter with electric motor so no need for a tractor and its been a great bit of kit. In 3 years there has been nothing it wont split, it splits stuff my Palax processor doesnt like and is really well built. Only downside is it weighs a ton and is very hard to move around!
  2. These look interesting - not sure on volume and if could stack them when full. They fold up when not required so could handy. Flat pack metal pallet cages Miscellaneous from Ramco UK Limited
  3. I used a company called Dolphin Tooling based near Darlington, about two years ago. They collected the blade, sharpened it and dropped it off for £12!
  4. When using it, you should not take readings from the end of the log. The correct method is to split the log and take a reading from the fresh cut face.
  5. My friends collie Grace rounding up pheasant poults One of my gardening clients border terrier Meg, lovely dog with personality (still doesn't forget I accidently threw her favourite ball over the fence - two years ago!!) Another clients golden retriever demonstrating that at thirteen she still knew how to have fun (sadly passed away a few months back) And Tip, a working farm dog who if he was ever clean would be the most beautiful collie dog ever!
  6. The guy who does my chainsaw repairs/resharps has started selling these as they were about the only make he could source that have nothing to do with China, they are built completely in Italy. Even the smaller Stihls are built in China now apparently and I think I saw "Made in China" on a Husqavana box. I think he was doing the top handled saw for under £300. I have his contact details if any one is interested.
  7. Small article in the September 4x4 Magazine, page 87 (just opposite an article on my Ranger on page 86!!) regarding the towing capacity of the Toyota Hilux. Apparantly, Toyota's Technical Department have stated one of the ways they determine the towing capacity is by performing an emergency braking test and from this they calculate the ratio of towing weight to gross vehicle weight and 2250KG is the max weight allowed under their test based on the vehicle being used on a global basis. Toyota GB have made a successful UK braking test with the Vehicle Certification Agency to increase the legal towing limit for double cabs and extra cabs to 2800KG. They therefore claim the Hilux can legally tow 2800KG in the UK - however they cannot market this as the warranty is provided through Toyota Motor Corp and they are not prepared to increase the weight as their test is a lot more challenging. So whilst it can legally tow 2800, the warranty would be invalidated if an issue arose through the vehicle towing more than 2250. Might be of interest to some of you.
  8. If its the FFIS scheme, I was informed the second round which closed on 17 July was the last ever, there will be no more. Personally, I think a new scheme with a different name will be out again next year.
  9. The downside with grants is you have to prove you have or have access to the full amount you need to purchase the item. Once the grant is approved and you have the offer letter you purchase the item, send proof showing the funds leaving your bank account and obtain receipt from the seller and then you can claim your 40% back! Seems pointless giving a grant if you have to have the money in the first place!
  10. Not the coolest ever but sure looks like a lot fun!! Alvis, CVRT Shielder, #44504 - MOD Sales, Military Vehicles & Used Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale
  11. I always remember a girl I used to work with went to the docs with her hubby to enquire about him getting the snip. When the doctor asked what form of contraception they used at the moment, she replied "A wall and two doors!"

  18. I was after a Stihl HS45 hedge trimmer and out of 5 local'ish companies I contacted Gateshead Lawn Mower Centre were the best price and when I went to collect it the service was second to none - I can fully recommend them:thumbup:
  19. After twenty years of Land Rover ownership I switched to a Ford Ranger Super cab last year. Until the last year or so, I worked in an office job and had the Land Rover as I always wanted one from the moment I got my first Britains farm one as a young lad. I loved driving Series motors then Defenders and ended up with a Freelander and used to off road a lot, use them for shooting and as every day transport. The Ranger came about because I started a firewood/gardening business and needed something bigger than the Freelander/Defenders. Whilst I would have another Defender tomorrow, I love the Ranger - more mpg, more comfortable, your right elbow can actually stay in the cab, the wipers go fast and faster rather than slow and stop, the heater puts out...heat,the super cab configuration means you actually have somewhere to store stuff and the pick up is bigger volume wise than a 90 or 110 (apart from the hi-cap). You would save money with a non Land Rover as will probably be more economical but more importantly there are not the huge range of extras to buy for them! If you WANT a Land Rover then buy one...the question is do you NEED one?
  20. What do you class as "shite" mpg? I've got one on my Ranger Super Cab and get 31mpg.
  21. Is this not exactly what you're expecting people to do to you, ie your expecting them to employ you to cut their tree down and let you take away "something of value" for nothing? Or if I asked you to take down a tree and told you I wanted to keep the logs would you charge me more than if you were taking the logs?
  22. He's like the missing chuckle brother!!
  23. Borrowed a petrol lawn mower of a friend and he said I've got some petrol you can use as well and passed me this out of the van:its an Eversure Fillican from the early 1960s, with a handle that become a spout!!

  25. It was cancelled a few years back when it was due to be at Harewood House in Leeds and the organisers stated they would not come north again as nowhere had the site to cope with bad weather!!
