    Fall Guy

I must have watched too many episodes of The Fall Guy at an impressionable age as I would love this sat on my driveway....in fact a driveway big enough to park it on would be good as well!!! 1978 CHEVROLET K20 4X4 REGULAR CAB PICKUP 6.6 LITRE AUTOMATIC | eBay
  2. Looks well made but as you're the one using it I would have thought only you could answer the question. Where did you buy the rollers as I could do with a couple extra on my deck?
  3. Some Hilux tippers on ebay...may be of interest to some of you TOYOTA INVINCIBLE HILUX -TIPPER | eBay TOYOTA HILUX PICK UP TIPPER | eBay
  4. What grant are you applying for? I am putting in for one under the Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme and no business plan is required which saves a load of headaches!
  5. PM sent Andrew
  6. John, there have been two firewood auctions in the north east in the last twelve months. The first, last October, was organised by Northwoods, our local RDPE and had lots ranging from nets of kindling to cordwood. Whilst I was told afterwards there were more than 300 registered buyers I would have said they were about 80 following the auctioneer around and a lot of the people I spoke to were "trade" - tree surgeons, foresters, landscape gardeners and farmers looking to see what prices were being achieved. The second was in January and was run by the mart in a different part of the county. Whilst I was not there,I was told most of the lots were put in by farmers and had just been cut up. A firewood producer I know achieved 60% of his regular price for one cubic metre bags of kiln dried timber. I think people attending were looking for a real bargain. I dont think I would hurry back to attend one, especially as the mart were charging 20% sellers commission. Regards
  7. As usual the grants are not available for equipment you could use else where, so as Charlie says (wasn't that on an advert many moons ago??) you cannot purchase a tractor or something else useful like a chainsaw. Up to 40% is available against the purchase of forwarders, tractor mounted forestry grabs, forestry trailers, tractor mounted chippers, self propelled chippers, tractor mounted firewood processors, associated processing equipment, mobile saw bench, firewood splitters and winches. However, you must demonstrate you have the capital to purchase the item yourself, pay for it and then claim back the 40%. As far as I am aware they are administered by the RDPE and its the Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme but as I said earlier entries close on 17 July (and at the present speed its taken people to send quotes/return phone calls I might miss the deadline!).
  8. If you're still interested in doing this, grants are available but applications have to be submitted before 17 July 2012
  9. Surprised they could advertise this...wonder if the Cat Protection League knows:001_tongue:
  10. Mogfest - Are you ready for some Unimog love?
  11. Ok, so leaving the theft angle out of it, you have an accident with a pedestrian/other vehicle/whatever and the assessor says we never knew about this winch/accessory/modification you had fitted so your insurance is null and void. The injured parties insurance company I would imagine would pursue you personally for every last penny they could get. At the end of the day no insurance company I have been with has made sufficiently increased premiums to cover accessories/modifications I have made to vehicles. Far better to be open and honest from the start.
  12. I think the way insurance companies look at it is have you added anything to the vehicle to change it any way shape or form from a bog standard vehicle. I am sure if you had a winch stolen and had your claim refused because you had not informed the insurers you would not be very happy.
  13. My friend supplies woodchip and buys timber in which is then stacked on bearers to keep it off the ground. He usually has to leave it for 12 months to dry out to a suitable moisture content and then hires in a chipper for the day. There are many chippers that will process whole trees but they cost the proverbial arm and leg, think £100,000 for one with its own engine rather than pto driven!
  14. New series starting Wednesday at 9pm on Quest, channel 38 - "Extreme Logging"
  15. Yes, great service from Rob. He even responded to an email I sent via the "contact us" page of his web site - the only person to do so out of the last 7 I have contacted via this method!! No wonder these's a bloomin recession on:confused1:
  16. Depends who you are intending on supplying with chip. My friend is the largest contractor for supplying chip in the north east and he does not buy it in, it is all produced from virgin timber which is stipulated in the contracts he has with the end user. He has approached a number of companies about supplying walking floor trailers of chip but they can either not guarantee its virgin timber, cannot guarantee supply or the most popular one... they simply do not return phone calls or e-mails!
  17. It is really quite a long and complex method to determine moisture content of chip Dean. Most boilers under 500KW will require fuel of 35% moisture and below and the best way to test it is to use your oven at home! Take a known quantity of chip (by weighing it) and place it on a tray or in a steel container and put it in the oven. Leave it for 12 hours at 105C. Re weigh the sample and perform the following sum: MC% = (Ws - Wo)divided by Ws times by 100 Ws is the weight of the sample before drying and Wo is the weight after drying. You can use a microwave as well: 1.microwave on high for 10min - stir 2.microwave on high for 10min - stir 3.microwave on medium for 10 mins -stir 4.microwave on low for 5mins -reweigh 5.repeat step 4 until consistent weights are obtained and then perform the above calculation Hope this helps!
  18. It was up for sale last summer with a price tag of £12,000 and there were no takers
  19. Save your money on buying a splitter Chris, and your bad back, and just give log orders to me and I'll deliver dry, well seasoned logs to your punters
  20. Okay Rich, here's a few more for you.
  21. Yes, I agree Chris. The zipped bottoms also tend to have the drawstring waists. The matching jackets are good as well although the one I have has no pockets on the outside. I remember going deer stalking in horrendous weather and staying dry as a bone in my ex army goretex outfit that cost £20 and my mate coming back soaking in his new £300 Sealand outfit!!
  22. Yes, one of the Countys had a roof mounted crane. Some more pics of the saw although it looks the same in every pic! Some big John Deeres there as well.
  23. Some photos from a steam and classic rally at Corbridge in Northumberland today.
  24. How long is a piece of string?? After reading similar posts on here for the last two years I would say it all depends on location. Here in the north east we seem to pay more than elsewhere. I have just taken delivery of mixed hardwood at £45 a ton plus vat, delivered but they were asking £50 to start with. A friend of mine has been quoted nearly £60 so £37 a ton Little Green Woodchopper is the stuff of dreams in our neck of the woods (pun intended!).
