  1. Don't ask why but we had to take the trailer socket off our new forwarding trailer and the person who took it off did not make a note of what wires went where!!! It's a standard 7 pin plug but with only 5 wires - red, yellow, blue, grey and black. The positions on the plug are marked - 1/L, 2/54g, 3/31, 4/R, 5/58R, 6/54 and then the centre one (forgot what that was!!). Spent three hours this morning trying to use a 7 pin wiring diagram detailing 7 wires but obviously we only have 5 and one of them is grey which does not appear on any diagram!! Any knowledgable advice would be greatly appreciated.
  2. It won't last long - it's getting chipped next week for biomass boilers.
  3. I did not see them finished as they had blocked my pick up in the shed so I had to walk to the bait van!! They both left at same time though so cannot have been much in it.
  4. These two arrived within minutes of each other at my friends yard today and went head to head to unload. Both very quick operators!!
  5. Apparently, if you look on the Transit Owners forum there is a thread about somebody putting a Transit pick up on to a Discovery chassis. Might be worth a look.
  6. I am just going in to my third season but business is up 200% on last year. I am getting a lot of business from my Gumtree ad and my Yell listing, both of which are free. I always treat customers how I like to be dealt with, pleasant on the phone, my answer phone message says I will call them back within three working hours and I do (amazing number of customers who say other people have not returned their calls), my emails go straight to my Blackberry and any enquiries are answered immediately. Upon delivery I always introduce myself, ask where they would like the logs unloaded (loose pick up load) and if its not far I will help them stack. If you're on an estate is there any local church or school fairs you can get involved with and display your goods at - I do this as a form of advertising and PR; sales on the day tend to be small but I got sales totalling a couple of grand within four months of a parish Christmas fair I did last year. Little things add up and help gain repeat business and referrals. Good luck with your venture.
  7. I'll not miss that if I see it driving around Newcastle!!
  8. I gave the details to a customer of mine who is a policeman. He contacted them and came back and said not to have anything to do with them. Scam scam scam.
  9. I suppose thats one way to improve a Land Rovers ride quality:thumbup:
  10. I live in Newcastle and Kielder is an hour or so away from me...I think you'll find Cheshire is about 4 hours or so away!!!!
  11. Guess what building burned down in Berwick on Monday morning????????????? That's right........the fire station!!!! BBC News - Firefighters battle blaze at North Berwick fire station
  12. I would just like to say a big thank you to Darren of DM Taylor Firewood for a fantastic days shooting on Saturday - beautiful countryside, great company, good birds and fantastic hospitality. Well done mate, you've made a cracking job of the shoot and know how to run a very enjoyable day. (Does that get me a discount on my next day?)
  13. Great pics - the first one makes them look like an Australian road train!! Like the M reg the best:thumbup:
  14. Anybody know of any reliable methods for securing such a trailer, either hitch locks for an eye coupling or tagging, etc?
  15. Nice looking Land Rovers, looks like there's another in the back ground. Any more pics??
  16. I deliver 50cm long logs to a customer who has just installed an ETA log boiler through a company I have connections with. He did look at cheaper alternatives but in the end went for the ETA and to say he is over the moon with it would be an understatement. Worth having a look at them.
  17. My friend keeps suggesting a Lister engine for my processor with a pump on. As I don't know anyone who has done this I keep thinking there must be a reason why!!
  18. Thank you for all the comments. Yes, we liked the plates on the front bolsters too and the fact that when not extended, the chassis is "double " strength. No pics of it working yet as we have been too busy!!! Going to get it hooked up to the Ford TW20 this week for a bit play around. As Darren said, the last picture of it in the shed was at the dealers although we have some nice shiny things as well! And some not so shiny! I must express my gratitude to Northwoods for their assistance when I applied for the grant under the Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme (I feel as though I've got some of the tax back that I paid over 23 years as an employee) The trailer had only been in the yard an hour when a local woodsman pulled in and asked if he could borrow it or would we do a job for him!!
  19. If I can assist in any way Steve please let me know
  20. Cheers Darren. I'll take more care of it than you took of my pheasant!!
  21. Apparently they were know as Logbus in the UK for a lot of years before the importers reverted back to the manufacturers name of Vreten.
  22. Ta da!! Our new forwarding trailer and crane arrived today. Its a Vreten 10 ton extending trailer with a 6.5m reach crane. I now just need to learn how to drive a tractor and reverse a trailer!!
  23. "So the plan is to buy softwood chip wood and process it into logs I have worked out that I can produce, dry and deliver a cubic metre for £25." At what price do you expect to buy softwood in. £30-35 per ton seems the going rate around us and using the rule of thumb of 1.5 cube to a ton that would give you a timber cost of £20 at best only leaving you £5 to cover everything else.
  24. So who would come and cut my trees free for 18 months? And be available to do it all day every day?? Thought so. Banks are a retail business just like everyone else and therefore charge for their services. Having worked in one for 23 years up until 2009 I know all the arguments from both sides. Those of you using your personal account run the risk of having your account closed due to breeching the terms and conditions you originally signed up to. If you ever want business finance you may well struggle if you only use your personal account. As some of the more level headed people have stated, go in to your bank and ask what the charges are and if they can help you reduce them. If you are not happy then take action and change banks, there's plenty out there but think about what you want from a bank - readily available branches (I can count about 15 branches of my bank I could use in a 30 mile radius of home); a business manager you can talk to on their direct line or arrange a face to face meeting with; on line facilities; cash points available; only pay in when you have enough to make it worthwhile ie. don't bank ten individual cheques, save them up and bank them once a week or fortnight if you can afford to do so. If the government get there way and force the banks to separate their investment arms from their retail sectors, I can see charges for personal customers coming in as the retail sectors profits lag way behind the investment arms.
  25. Seems this could be going around the north east now. Just had a call this lunch time from a guy from county durham police saying my business had been recommeded to them by the council and would I be interested in advertising in the police community overdrive magazine going out to 65,000 home in DH post code. He did not seem very professional and gave me his mobile number when I said I would think about it.
