  1. What you have to remember is the vast majority of German armour and heavy vehicles were destroyed either through action or were scrapped by the allies after the war so anything that turns up as genuine these days will attract a hefty price. Also because of the German approach to design and build, they did did not actually make a lot of anything in comparison to the allies. So when even just genuine wheels and tracks turn up, the wealthy collector is now fabricating the rest of the machine. Having looked at your original picture again I now remember the Wheatcroft machine was a personnel carrier. Have a look at index for some idea of the standard of restorations carried out by his team. Oh to have garages such as those!
  2. I am sure Tom Wheetcroft rebuilt the half track in your first post a couple of years ago and the cost mentioned at the time was close to a million squiddonies so quite expensive to convert into a forestry/tree truck:001_cool: But is is fantastic when you see it driving across the fields and I would have one in my garage next to the Land Rover Centaur.
  3. Could Jas Wilsons not provide you with a letter confirming what they estimate its value to be? Surely as one of the main importers they would have an idea on value and the NFU should take note of them.
  4. Smart looking Defender Adam. The more Land Rovers I see on here, the more I want another. After a few series motors and then four 90s I changed to a Freelander 2 years ago which is a lovely motor (apart from the fact its in the garage at the minute having a new fuel sensor and wiring harness fitted after conking out on Friday - I'll be best part of £500 lighter by Wednesday night!!!"@@@***!!!!) but just isn't a Defender. As I am setting up a firewood business I am hankering after a hi cap.
  5. If any body requires large quantities of compost, my friend owns a composting site in Consett, County Durham. He takes in the curbside collections of garden waste from the council and processes it in to lovely, black compost. I have used it in my veg patch this year and the difference compared to last year is unbelievable. It is available for £5 / ton and delivery can be arranged at extra cost or collect with own transport. PM me with your details if interested.
  6. I have just submitted a grant to our local business development agency - One NorthEast - on a fast track basis and should receive an answer in next 8 days, fingers crossed! Whether any of this will happen or not I have no idea as One NorthEast is one of the agencys the government has decided to close down.
  7. Those of you shoot will understand this one....its not what you go out to get,its what you get out of going out. "Put more life in your days than days in your life" is another good one. And I think another one goes something like "The past is my present to your future"
  8. I am surprised no one on any of the vehicle threads I have read has mentioned the latest style Ford Ranger which has been out for a couple of years now. In the March 2010 edition of "4x4" magazine (used to be Off Road and Four Wheel Drive for those of you old enough to remember) the Ranger won the group pick up test - the contenders being Isuzu Rodeo, Mazda BT50, Mitsubishi L200 (surely one of the most unattractive vehicles ever built!!),Nissan Navara and the Toyota HILux. A friend of mine has one and swears by it and a lot of the gamekeepers on estates where he picks up have switched from Defenders to Rangers and they rate them very highly. After 20 years of Land Rover ownership I am even considering buying one!
  9. Well done. I've just taken delivery of my very first two loads of wood today but as it has just been felled that will have to wait until next year to be processed and sold. Might start off with softwood this year as I have plenty available that is well seasoned. Good luck for the future.
  10. A good friend of mine saved just over £2500 last month by switching his liability insurance from NFU to Arthur Marsh (I think) so it pays to look around.
  11. Glad you eventually got sorted Alban. I was going to suggest you contact the Land Rover Special Vehicles and Defender 130 Club for advice but you could still join them now you are an owner. http://www.landrover130andspecialvehiclesclub.co.uk/ is the website apparantly but I was unable to connect and the telephone number is/was 01728 648513. Any chance of putting some pics up?
  12. Yes Treewolf, you are correct. Land Rover only made the 90 and 110 and to make a 127 they took a 110 chassis, cut it in half, added longer chassis rails in and welded it back together. Hence the V5 would say 110 and they probably would not bother to change it. Good luck with the insurance, I just moved mine away from Adrian Flux as they increased the premium 20% on last year despite the fact I had made no claims.
  13. Does any one know if you are able to choose your own mobile number through any of the network suppliers? Virgin say no and O2 don't even bother to reply to e-mails! Also how easy is it (and cheap) to have a second landline number? Cheers
  14. One of my best friends lost three fingers past the knucle on his left hand and four past the knuckle on his right when using a horizontal splitter a few years back. Needless to say that one ended up with the scrapman and was replaced with a 12ton Ballario & Forestello electric vertical splitter with the twin handles from RIKO. Much safer and very easy to use.
  15. Land Rovers and a Bedford MK - what more could you want? Isn't great when work includes days like that? How does the Bedford handle the timber? I keep trying to persuade my friend to buy one to move the logs around his wood chip site (and then I could borrow it to collect windblow for my fledgling firewood business!!).
  16. Hi Lorry, I will be around Consett on Friday if you want to meet at my friends yard at Bunker Hill re offloading logs or chip. My number is 07806792469

  17. Would definately buy one. Pictures would so much better with strategically placed Land Rovers in shot!!
  18. Do you still require hardwood? A friend has a contact who can supply mixed hardwood, 3m long, generally up to 16 inch but some larger as well. And he is not a million miles from you.
  19. Does anyone have any experience of using poplar as woodchip for biomass boilers? And as firewood?
  20. No idea who Ted is. A friend of mine has a few contacts in the wood business and he was enquirying about softwood when the contact told us about the hardwood. Now I just have to decide how much to buy.
  21. Thanks for the info Stephen. Apparently its in 3m lengths and at most 40cm /16inch diameter and was felled a few months back.
  22. I am in the process of setting up a new firewood business and through a contact a friend has, have been offered mixed hardwood - sycamore, beech, ash, etc at £40 per ton delivered. Does this seem like a fair price to those of you already in the business?
