  1. Reminds me of an advert I once saw in LRO - "Land Rover Camel Trophy 110,genuine 6000 miles but oh what miles they were!"
  2. Have a look at 04 Land Rover Defender 110 Td5 pick up Hi capacity 47k on eBay (end time 27-Aug-10 11:03:07 BST) Could be useful for those of you who like to fell trees on side slopes!
  3. Sorry to hear your bad news, they were obviously determined to take it. I had one stolen some years ago and one of the most annoying things was how many times in the following months I went to get a tool, torch or whatever and realised it was in the Land Rover! It also had brand new BF Goodrich Trac Edge tyres on that had done about 700 miles!!
  4. Have a look at Budget Log Stores: Welcome - he even gives you the dimensions of the different pieces of wood you will need to build one.
  5. Thats a very neat Land Rover:thumbup:, very clever chip box design but where do you put the sarnies?
  6. Nothing automatic unfortunately, its just the tray on a stand, put logs in the tray, place the net around the tray and then it tips forward on the stand to fill the net.
  7. I knew as soon as I typed "bag packer" that some bright spark would say something along those lines!
  8. In the north east we have a body called Northwoods which is run by the Rural Development Initiatives Ltd to promote forestry business and the use of wood as fuel. I was able to only apply for assistance with the purchase of dedicated firewood machinery, so a processor was fine but not the tractor you need to run the processor (puzzling I know but their argument is you could go off and plough fields with the tractor!). It is rather specific so I ended up only being allowed to apply for a processor, a log deck and a bag packer. However, another benefit of contacting Northwoods was they helped put me through CS 30 and 31 which did save a fair bit. I hope this is of assistance to you but do not hesitate to PM me for any further info.
  9. Just had some good news - my grant application has been sanctioned to assist with start up of a firewood business. After lots of research and visits, the choice of machine is down to either a BGU KSA370Z from Perry Plant or a Palax KS35 Ergo from Caledonian Forestry Services. They both seem to be well made, have relatively few parts to go wrong and are the same price. So it is really difficult to choose between the two, it may just come down to who I can get the best deal from. Any one got any views they would like to share?
  10. Have sent you a PM for contact details as have info which may be of use
  11. I just visited some one last week and they were using an ice pick to pull the logs off the log deck onto the processor. Could be useful in the winter!
  12. Left the house at 7am to be at my desk for 7.30am - I do finance and admin for a seafood company three days a week. Finished at 3.30pm and after a quick change and a mad dash across the county, had a pleasant hour with the chainsaw clearing some trees someone else had taken down. Loaded them on to my mates trailer and hauled them over to my storage yard. Then home for 7.30pm and luckily tea was nearly on the plate. A long day but a good 'un.Oh, and my new shotgun certificate arrived in the post and there is still three weeks until the old one expires - well done Northumbria Police.
  13. Where abouts in Northumberland are you? looks very interesting.
  14. I used to use jubilee clips around the top of the rear spring and the housing to stop them popping out. Worked a treat.
  15. Funny you should say that Lorry,we just got the new one through the door and as I got the old one out of the cupboard, I thought I've never even once looked at last years.
  16. Serviced chainsaw this morning whillst wife went to Tescos for weekly shop;put up new washing line which was took ages as every tool I wanted was buried in the bowels of the garage;had lunch;did paperwork for the month;visited my mum and dad and sat listening for an hour before coming home and going up the road to our friends for a Chinese and some red wine.Obviously now on ARB website:thumbup1:
  17. I read an article in one of the Land Rover mags recently and it mentioned the Llama and had some pics and I thought it would have been an excellent vehicle as well. Never mind, I thought that about the Centaur but that was never to be either! Any pics available Stig?
  18. A good friend of mine bought a Husqvarna 141 off e-bay but the cover on the right hand side where the tensioner and nuts for the bar are is cracked. Anybody know a good source of spares or have one they would sell?
  19. Whilst I am not a tree surgeon, I wonder if one of these would be useful to convert in to an ARB truck? Welcome to MOD Sales Online - Military Vehicles for Sale - Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale - #17647 - Reynolds Boughton RB 44 Truck Cab Pickup R.H.D The military took them on to replace the Land Rover 101 as a gun tractor (not sure that was a good idea as apparantly Land Rover did offer to rechassis the 101s, replace the V8 with the TDi and change the suspension from leafs to coils - but the MOD said no!) and then the Reynolds were replaced by the Pinzgauer (not sure if that was a good idea either as it takes two Pinzgauers to do the job of one 101 and the drivers have to be specially trained and qualified,so not just any squaddy can jump in and use one!)
  20. I'm sure Honest John, motoring expert in the Daily Telegraph, has stated in the past that you entitled to be put back in to the situation you were in prior to the accident and if the insurer is not prepared to do this you can go through the courts. Drop him a line at [email protected] - he answered my query in a few hours.

    Sad day

Thank you to every one for their very kind comments and you are all correct - Meg had a great life, lived in a beautiful location, was never tied up (hence went on hunting patrols in the middle of the night but dont tell Ians neighbours!) loved her work and looked after people as well as her fellow collie Molly. She will certainly live long in my memories for the good times we had together.

    Sad day

This is Meg, the nicest dog I have ever come across. She belongs to a farmer friend of mine called Ian who lets us shoot clays on his land every fortnight. I have probably seen Meg on a regular basis for the last seven years or so, she has a very gentle nature, looks and acts extremely intelligently and when you stop stroking her she will just give you a gentle nudge with her nose to ask for more. Last year when I was made redundant, Ian offered me work on the farm doing odd jobs, gardening and repairing dry stone walls. I ended up working there on average two days a week from May until October and there were days when Meg hardly left my side - she would just lay down a few feet away and keep an eye on me. Why am I telling you this? Last June Meg had a lump on her front left leg which was diagnosed as cancer and removed. She has been fine until a few weeks ago when the lump came back and the vet confirmed it was cancer again and it has probably spread. I have just come back from the farm with a heavy heart as Ian is going to have Meg put to sleep in the next day or two. She has been his faithfull sheep dog for thirteen years, the best he has ever had he said this afternoon. R.I.P. Meg
  23. I think the main reason the public are so anti-softwood is because the stove retailers tell them they must use hardwood. I had a converastion with one retailer earlier in the year and explained I was setting up a firewood business and he replied, "Supply me with hardwood with a moisture content of under 20%,guaranteed every load and I will buy off you every time." Needless to say he is on to his 33rd supplier in only a few years!! I have never had an open fire or stove and if I bought one and was told only use hardwood logs, that is what I would insist on from any supplier so I think it is a case of educating the customer and either giving them a bag to try for free, at a discount or a mixed bag.
  24. I've also scattered chicken pellets on the top soil before laying the turf and told the client to water it every evening - they were amazed at the results after a week:001_cool:
  25. Thanks AD15, but I took the photo myself when doing some wall repairs for a farmer friend and I bought the Freelander from my friends sister when she came to the end of her 2 year contract with Land Rover. By the way, what does lol stand for? I've worked out imo stands for "in my opinion" (although in my old job it was interntional money order!)
