  1. Left the house at 7am to be at my desk for 7.30am - I do finance and admin for a seafood company three days a week. Finished at 3.30pm and after a quick change and a mad dash across the county, had a pleasant hour with the chainsaw clearing some trees someone else had taken down. Loaded them on to my mates trailer and hauled them over to my storage yard. Then home for 7.30pm and luckily tea was nearly on the plate. A long day but a good 'un.Oh, and my new shotgun certificate arrived in the post and there is still three weeks until the old one expires - well done Northumbria Police.
  2. Where abouts in Northumberland are you? looks very interesting.
  3. I used to use jubilee clips around the top of the rear spring and the housing to stop them popping out. Worked a treat.
  4. Funny you should say that Lorry,we just got the new one through the door and as I got the old one out of the cupboard, I thought I've never even once looked at last years.
  5. Serviced chainsaw this morning whillst wife went to Tescos for weekly shop;put up new washing line which was took ages as every tool I wanted was buried in the bowels of the garage;had lunch;did paperwork for the month;visited my mum and dad and sat listening for an hour before coming home and going up the road to our friends for a Chinese and some red wine.Obviously now on ARB website:thumbup1:
  6. I read an article in one of the Land Rover mags recently and it mentioned the Llama and had some pics and I thought it would have been an excellent vehicle as well. Never mind, I thought that about the Centaur but that was never to be either! Any pics available Stig?
  7. A good friend of mine bought a Husqvarna 141 off e-bay but the cover on the right hand side where the tensioner and nuts for the bar are is cracked. Anybody know a good source of spares or have one they would sell?
  8. Whilst I am not a tree surgeon, I wonder if one of these would be useful to convert in to an ARB truck? Welcome to MOD Sales Online - Military Vehicles for Sale - Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale - #17647 - Reynolds Boughton RB 44 Truck Cab Pickup R.H.D The military took them on to replace the Land Rover 101 as a gun tractor (not sure that was a good idea as apparantly Land Rover did offer to rechassis the 101s, replace the V8 with the TDi and change the suspension from leafs to coils - but the MOD said no!) and then the Reynolds were replaced by the Pinzgauer (not sure if that was a good idea either as it takes two Pinzgauers to do the job of one 101 and the drivers have to be specially trained and qualified,so not just any squaddy can jump in and use one!)
  9. I'm sure Honest John, motoring expert in the Daily Telegraph, has stated in the past that you entitled to be put back in to the situation you were in prior to the accident and if the insurer is not prepared to do this you can go through the courts. Drop him a line at [email protected] - he answered my query in a few hours.

    Sad day

Thank you to every one for their very kind comments and you are all correct - Meg had a great life, lived in a beautiful location, was never tied up (hence went on hunting patrols in the middle of the night but dont tell Ians neighbours!) loved her work and looked after people as well as her fellow collie Molly. She will certainly live long in my memories for the good times we had together.

    Sad day

This is Meg, the nicest dog I have ever come across. She belongs to a farmer friend of mine called Ian who lets us shoot clays on his land every fortnight. I have probably seen Meg on a regular basis for the last seven years or so, she has a very gentle nature, looks and acts extremely intelligently and when you stop stroking her she will just give you a gentle nudge with her nose to ask for more. Last year when I was made redundant, Ian offered me work on the farm doing odd jobs, gardening and repairing dry stone walls. I ended up working there on average two days a week from May until October and there were days when Meg hardly left my side - she would just lay down a few feet away and keep an eye on me. Why am I telling you this? Last June Meg had a lump on her front left leg which was diagnosed as cancer and removed. She has been fine until a few weeks ago when the lump came back and the vet confirmed it was cancer again and it has probably spread. I have just come back from the farm with a heavy heart as Ian is going to have Meg put to sleep in the next day or two. She has been his faithfull sheep dog for thirteen years, the best he has ever had he said this afternoon. R.I.P. Meg
  12. I've also scattered chicken pellets on the top soil before laying the turf and told the client to water it every evening - they were amazed at the results after a week:001_cool:
  13. Thanks AD15, but I took the photo myself when doing some wall repairs for a farmer friend and I bought the Freelander from my friends sister when she came to the end of her 2 year contract with Land Rover. By the way, what does lol stand for? I've worked out imo stands for "in my opinion" (although in my old job it was interntional money order!)
  14. What you have to remember is the vast majority of German armour and heavy vehicles were destroyed either through action or were scrapped by the allies after the war so anything that turns up as genuine these days will attract a hefty price. Also because of the German approach to design and build, they did did not actually make a lot of anything in comparison to the allies. So when even just genuine wheels and tracks turn up, the wealthy collector is now fabricating the rest of the machine. Having looked at your original picture again I now remember the Wheatcroft machine was a personnel carrier. Have a look at index for some idea of the standard of restorations carried out by his team. Oh to have garages such as those!
  15. I am sure Tom Wheetcroft rebuilt the half track in your first post a couple of years ago and the cost mentioned at the time was close to a million squiddonies so quite expensive to convert into a forestry/tree truck:001_cool: But is is fantastic when you see it driving across the fields and I would have one in my garage next to the Land Rover Centaur.
  16. Could Jas Wilsons not provide you with a letter confirming what they estimate its value to be? Surely as one of the main importers they would have an idea on value and the NFU should take note of them.
  17. Smart looking Defender Adam. The more Land Rovers I see on here, the more I want another. After a few series motors and then four 90s I changed to a Freelander 2 years ago which is a lovely motor (apart from the fact its in the garage at the minute having a new fuel sensor and wiring harness fitted after conking out on Friday - I'll be best part of £500 lighter by Wednesday night!!!"@@@***!!!!) but just isn't a Defender. As I am setting up a firewood business I am hankering after a hi cap.
  18. If any body requires large quantities of compost, my friend owns a composting site in Consett, County Durham. He takes in the curbside collections of garden waste from the council and processes it in to lovely, black compost. I have used it in my veg patch this year and the difference compared to last year is unbelievable. It is available for £5 / ton and delivery can be arranged at extra cost or collect with own transport. PM me with your details if interested.
  19. I have just submitted a grant to our local business development agency - One NorthEast - on a fast track basis and should receive an answer in next 8 days, fingers crossed! Whether any of this will happen or not I have no idea as One NorthEast is one of the agencys the government has decided to close down.
  20. Those of you shoot will understand this one....its not what you go out to get,its what you get out of going out. "Put more life in your days than days in your life" is another good one. And I think another one goes something like "The past is my present to your future"
  21. I am surprised no one on any of the vehicle threads I have read has mentioned the latest style Ford Ranger which has been out for a couple of years now. In the March 2010 edition of "4x4" magazine (used to be Off Road and Four Wheel Drive for those of you old enough to remember) the Ranger won the group pick up test - the contenders being Isuzu Rodeo, Mazda BT50, Mitsubishi L200 (surely one of the most unattractive vehicles ever built!!),Nissan Navara and the Toyota HILux. A friend of mine has one and swears by it and a lot of the gamekeepers on estates where he picks up have switched from Defenders to Rangers and they rate them very highly. After 20 years of Land Rover ownership I am even considering buying one!
  22. Well done. I've just taken delivery of my very first two loads of wood today but as it has just been felled that will have to wait until next year to be processed and sold. Might start off with softwood this year as I have plenty available that is well seasoned. Good luck for the future.
  23. A good friend of mine saved just over £2500 last month by switching his liability insurance from NFU to Arthur Marsh (I think) so it pays to look around.
  24. Glad you eventually got sorted Alban. I was going to suggest you contact the Land Rover Special Vehicles and Defender 130 Club for advice but you could still join them now you are an owner. http://www.landrover130andspecialvehiclesclub.co.uk/ is the website apparantly but I was unable to connect and the telephone number is/was 01728 648513. Any chance of putting some pics up?
  25. Yes Treewolf, you are correct. Land Rover only made the 90 and 110 and to make a 127 they took a 110 chassis, cut it in half, added longer chassis rails in and welded it back together. Hence the V5 would say 110 and they probably would not bother to change it. Good luck with the insurance, I just moved mine away from Adrian Flux as they increased the premium 20% on last year despite the fact I had made no claims.
