  2. I went on a duck tour in London a number of years ago and after going through the city, crossed over Vauxhall Bridge and then there's a slipway down the side of the MI5 building, driver gets out and a boat captain gets in to take it on the Thames. Was very smooth and a great experience. When the DUKW was first demonstrated to the military, they were not interested. Then a few days before a further demonstration, there was a severe storm over Cape Cod and a Coast Guard vessel was aground on a sand bar. The surf and sea was way too rough for the Coast Guard rescue boats to launch so the three guys behind the DUKW design took it out a quarter of a mile offshore, rescued the 7 crew and were back on shore six minutes later!! Four days later 86 top ranking officials attended the trials and manufacture was confirmed!! the rest as they say is history.
  3. I'm well aware of that, obviously Khriss isn't.
  4. That's odd as the DUKW wasn't designed until 1942!
  5. Ah right, so it's a tax avoidance scheme! And do you tell your insurance company that you have modified the vehicle???
  6. You missed my point - if you want a vehicle with a rear seat then just buy one like that.
  7. A pet hate of mine - putting seats in a commercial because then it isnt a commercial anymore! If you want seats in the back, just buy a normal version. I think if you buy a commercial and put seats in, you have to pay tax on it if it is within a certain time frame.
  8. Yes I saw it back on facebook marketplace the other night. The guy who I know that had it did a lot of work to it - professional shot blast of chassis, repaint, new bushes in tipping gear, all new belts on the engine etc. From the new pictures they appear to have stripped the winch off it and the roof rack which is a shame, especiallya s they are asking a fair bit more than they paid!
  9. A friend of many has a number of high value pieces of forestry equipment to sell. I have had them listed on about ten facebook groups, had literally hundreds of like and shares and three people made appointments to view but then either cancelled or just didnt turn up. Only item that has sold was a Unimog. Where else would you recommend listing them??? I have thought of ebay and Mascus. Tried an item on arbtrader on here and it didn't even get any views. Any ideas warmly received.
  10. My friend has a Krapan for sale but it is nearly brand new and is a lot of money.
  11. As the manufacturers make them for specific vehicles there will be differences to length and width I would have thought.
  12. There has been a company upgrading them to 3.5 tons for quite some time. Apparently it has been Toyota GB who have not been willing to plate them at 3.5 ton
  13. £110 for loose cubic metre load and £130 for 1.2
  14. Could you not bundle say twelve together and burn in stove like that, maybe last longer???
  15. I recently applied for a FC job and found it very difficult to describe how I demonstrated a particular behaviour using only 250 words. I felt by the time I thinned my example out, it lost a lot of it's impact. Some points were also a bit mystifying - "you must have one of the following: chainsaw certificate, ATV certificate......" Describe how you have the above - in 250 words!! Bar explaining you attended a course, passed the final assessment and gained the certificate, what more could you say. The feedback I got was that my applicaton was scored a 4 on a scale of 0 to 7 where 7 is the best; 4 was deemed acceptable.
  16. I'm sure he will find any insurance company wants to be informed of modifications either inside or outside of the vehicle. The easiest way to think of it, is did the vehicle come from the manufacturer like this?
  17. Thanks for the replies guys - I totally understand its not the dogs fault so don't want to cause it any harm. As for catching it etc, I'm not staying up all night on the off chance it comes and I can catch it. I will try the citrus and creosote mixture. I did use cayenne pepper in a water solution but that had no effect.
  18. My front garden and driveway is open and for about the last four months a dog has been fouling on two gravel areas and a border right in front of the door!!! Usually happens overnight and about four times a week. Been nothing for about three weeks and then he's been back last two nights. I have tried - cayenne pepper, branches off rose bushes and thorn trees, variuos pepper sprays and granules, plastic mats with plastic pins sticking up and senses that emit a high pitched sounds only audible to dogs. None of it has stopped it - even sits and craps a foot infront of the sensors!!! I know it's not a dog from our street, there are flats and houses out the back and I'm sure somebody is just letting it out at night by itself. One of the main reasons I have not got a dog even though I love them is I cannot stand dog poo!! And when I come out the house and see it it makes me seeth!!! I've just put mouse traps out with cheese on tonight!! Has anybody got any ideas that work?????
  19. Absolutely love the G-Wagen LWB van!!
  20. Similar post on a Facebook group I'm on. Somebody who used to exhibit reckoned average cost for a stall was £10-14k. Add to that your staff costs, travel, accomodation, security etc he reckoned he would have to sell £100k worth of gear to break even. I think the internet has killed such shows as everyone can see what is available and at what price.
  21. I went from £90 to £100 last November and lost one customer (who I was actually happy to loose!!). But with rising costs, etc I am considering increasing to £110 from 1 Sept. That is for a loose cubic metre load, hardwood, naturally seasoned.
  22. Well, after 7 years, 132k miles, two snapped timing belts, many thousands of logs and a few adventures I decided it was time to change my 2007 Ford Ranger Super Cab for something a bit newer - and found a very clean 2015 Isuzu D-Max Extended Cab with 25,400 miles on the clock. The body style suits my lifestyle and the uses I put the truck to. After a few weeks of ownership: Good points: Very comfortable and pleasant to drive More power and torque Obviously suspension is a lot newer but it is a very smooth ride Larger pick up bed Larger area behind the seats Not so good points: High harshness, vibration and noise levels (Ranger was as quiet as a petrol engine!) Basic spec - no electric mirrors, no remote central locking and a radio thats slotted in to the dash rather than being part of the dash (have had all thses on the vehicles I have had over the last 11 years so they are a miss) Larger pick up bed - got to watch how many logs I put in!! It is very white!!!
  23. I've just replaced my Ford Ranger Super Cab of 7 years with an Isuzu Extended Cab as the body style suits me down to the ground. I don't carry passengers in mine but if you are planning on carrying kids bear in mind not all super cab body styles have opening rear doors. The Ranger/Mazda, Navarra and newer Isuzu and Mitsubishi do - the Toyota does not so you would have to constantly move the front seats to get to the rear and the older Isuzu and Mitsubishi don't.
  24. In May 2014 my 2007 Ford Ranger was approaching 72000 miles and I was thinking I'm sure the timing belt is due around this time. At 72522 it snapped! Smashed 15 out of 16 rockers and cost £1100 for repairs. I mentioned to a relative who is a mechanic and works on Rangers for a utility company when it was next due as I would be hitting 120,000 miles this summer and he said they usually let them go to 130,000 but he would do it as it is very easy to do on the Ranger. Summer cam and went and last week I was delivering firewood, going up hill when I heard the familiar snap, lost power and engine light came on!! Well, lomg story short, got recovered to a garage recommended by a friend - main pulley had collapsed (had heard a noise last few days like a vibration), smashed all 16 rockers, snapped belts obviously and damaged collets on camshaft. Oh and they noticed the radiator leaking as well. Back on the road again and bill was £900 (think I was over charged the first time). Don't think I will be so lucky again so it either goes within next 40,000 or it has a new belt every two tears!
  25. Yes, I would have said £25 per ton max. It's in short lengths, been lying on the grass for a year, will be difficult to load/unload and then consider how you are going to process it. I had a similar situation a few years ago. A builder mate of a mate was developing a very large back garden of an old house and had had a tree surgeon in to fell a load of trees. They were all cut to 1m to 1.5m and dotted around the site in piles. Good mix of hard and soft but he wanted top dollar. Even when we explained for what he wanted we usually got the timber delivered to the yard for that price and in 3m lengths so much easier for us to handle and process. We offered £25 a ton as we were going to have to load it into 30 cubic metre skips, about 7 ton at a time, tip it out in the yard, stack with the crane, and then when process move pins on the trailer so we could load it and adjust the log deck so they would fit. All more work which equals more time which makes it more expensive!
