  1. I have been working there since 2010 and it is the first time it has happened so I feel quite privileged to be able to see it so close up.
  2. I have the good fortune to work one day a week in an office located at Amble Marina in Northumberland. The marina gets silted up and at low tide some of the boats are sitting in the mud. Enter the dredger! A 300 ton crane was required to lift all the gear in to the water. The cutting head on the end of the ram protruding from the front of the boat, submerges and stirs the silt up which is then sucked through the pipe. The pipe exits under the rear of the boat, is coiled around the marina and then it goes under the water, across the river bed and up over the dunes on the other side and the out in to the sea. Another boat tows the end of the pipe out to see where the silt is eventually discharged. Quite impressive to see such a machine.
  3. My mate recently bought a Hurliman tractor and we are puzzled by this item on the back of it. It has a rubber grip on the top which comes off and a square rod pulls out. But is doesn't appear to be connected to anything at the bottom or to do anything. Any ideas????

  5. I've just bent the lower bar on my Stihl and my local Mr Fixit reckons Stihl have been using poor quality steel for a number of years now and they are nowhere near as strong as they used to be.
  6. That's because they have always been over priced!!!
  7. Don't forget you won't get 6 to 8 ton on it. So if you get a 6 ton trailer, it will probably only hold 4 to 5 tons of timber.
  8. What was the red pudding you had in Scotland Paul? Never heard of it.
  9. Sorry yes I mean Rangers, HiLuxes, L200 etc Aren't the speeds I've quoted the same as you quoted in your post? I will have to find the booklet they gave out to check.
  10. I attended a speed awareness course in June and they made a point of stressing pick ups were limited to 50 on a single carriageway, 60 on a dual and 70 on the motorway.
  11. Grants I have received were exactly like that - had to pay all of it upfront and then claim the grant money back. I doubt you would get a grant for a tractor as that could be used for agricultural work - that was the excuse I was given when trying to argue the pto powered processor they were given me a grant for needed a tractor to power it.
  12. I would leave it the colour it is. If I was a customer I would not be impressed with you turning up in olive drab and black. To me it doesn't give a professional appearance.
  13. Apparently HiLux has always been rated at 3.5 ton in Australia but it was Toyota GB who were not prepared to plate them at 3.5 for the UK market due to possible warranty issues. Their views have obviously changed now. An independant company in Gloucester have been importing them new and replating at 3.5 ton for some time.
  14. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lovely!
  15. I'm interested to try a Dmax with an auto box but overall I really wish that Toyota would get to grips with the gross towing weight thing (i.e. plate the Hi-Lux at 3500kg gross trailed). Cheers, Tom. The new HiLux due by the end of the year will have 3500kg towing capacity I believe. They have had the higher limits abroad but apparently it was Toyota UK who were not prepared to warrant the higher limit. Things have obviously changed.
  16. Love Meares Island, truly special place. Isn't the tree of life meant to be over 1000 years old. I hope the first nation continue to stand up to the logging companies and the place is never felled.
  17. Might be of use to some one https://www.bidspotter.co.uk/en-gb/auction-catalogues/mlvehicle/catalogue-id-morris1-10003/lot-9041520d-df40-4595-af70-a65f0177643e I remember Tyne and Wear brigade had three of these in the 1980s. My mate was demonstrating it to some brigade big wigs once, hurtling down the Coast Road towards North Shields. Now at the bottom of the Coast Road is a roundabout, and with a full crew cab and full water tank, my mate realised the brakes weren't up to it and it didn't like to corner at speed with a full load!!!
  18. Ditto for Milner - English based staff, they know their parts and next day delivery usually. And discount if you are a member of Ford Ranger forum (they might let you in!).
  19. I have a super cab and never had a problem and I have used a variety of garages.

    Jersey

Has it's own gun laws, different to mainland UK. Still able to own and shoot handguns, semi auto full bore and more apparently.
  21. Exactly Joy but I think the stove retailers must take a lot of the blame as they inform new stove owners they must burn hardwood under 20%.
  22. Thanks for the feedback guys, good points to bear in mind.
  23. I use a Ranger Super cab Cessna and a level load is approximately 1.1 cubic metres. The Isuzu dimensions are 1795 x 1530 x 465 so a level load should give approx 1.28 cubic metres. Why do a heaped load - surely that could differ with every load? if you are a member of the shooting organisation BASC I think they offer a discount on new Isuzu pick ups.
  24. Any experiences of these hydraulic winches? Warrior C15000NH Hydraulic Winch | eBay OR HYDRAULIC WINCH 20000 lb WINCHMAX BRAND | eBay We are thinking of fitting one to a tracked dumper we use for timber extraction. It would be used for winching trees down and then out to a clearing. We understand they are recovery winches but it would not be used 8 hours a day solid so the duty cycle and wear should be okay. Opinions????
  25. Bit confused by your post - are you providing the chip, drying, etc or do you want others to provide it. If you are supplying it would be worthwhile checking the contract to see what grade of chip is required, it may state it has to be from virgin wood ie. no pallets and no green material, and the moisture content. And what do you mean by 4.5t/hr?? My friend supplied 30 cubic metre skips to schools full of woodchip and that would generally last them a few days; and I think that equates to about 6 ton.
