I have had Land Rovers for 20 years, starting with a Series 3 LWB Safari 12 seater - and there was me a single lad and not many mates! Daktari had a lot to answer for!! A 2A pick up followed and then a succession of Nineties - the last one is pictured here. It was a 300TDi County and I owned it for six years but when I turned 40 a few years back I thought for once in my life it would be nice to own a car with a heater that did what it was supposed to, have washers that actually hit the windscreen and wipers that went faster than stop and slooooooooooowwwwww. So I sold it and bought the Freelander from my mates sister. At last,comfort,heat,heated seats and doors that open in the winter without the aid of a boiling kettle. However,since I am in the throws of setting up a firewood business, a pick up might be more suitable;unless I take the back off the Freelander I suppose. The other two pics I took when I went past a house that was having the garden done. One is obviously a six wheeler and had "stretch" on the tailgate,think it may have been a 130;the other is a 110; and to complete the outfit the company also own a 90 truck cab with a short tray on the back;not sure if that one is called "stumpy" but it has always been driving along when I have seen it and therefore no pics.

After working for a high street bank for twenty three years, I can confirm that after spending the last fourteen months gardening for people, dry stone walling, driving diggers and doing some tree work, a bad day spent in the great outdoors is still better than a good day in the office!

Thanks for the comments. It does have sides that can be put in place of the bolsters and indeed it is having these fitted this weekend as unfortunately my friend has sold it!!! He has owned it for about two years so it wouldn't have been the one on e-bay and now he has a dedicated shed with truck access for log deliveries for his woodchip business, he no longer needs it (despite our best efforts to persuade him to keep it). I think he has sold it to a couple of guys on Teeside who are drainage contractors.

Hi there, I have seen a 90 truck cab with a tray back running around Newcastle Upon Tyne on a number of occasions. It belongs to a landscaping company who also run a 110 trayback and a 130, which may be a 6 wheeler but cannot quite remember. Whilst the 90 looked good I doubt it would be very useful. When I saw it I thought one of the 90 chassis truck cabs they use to tow the starting gates at horse races would be a good donor vehicle. Having had Defenders for nearly 20 years until 2 years ago when I switched to a Freelander, I miss mine terribly, especially as I lost my office job last year and have been working outdoors and am now in process of setting up a firewood business. A Defender would be sooo useful again!! Good luck with whatever you decided. Derek

Good morning everybody, Further to my previous question, I am in the process of setting up a firewood business and am looking at purchasing a chainsaw for tidying timber up before processing it. Having seen the price second hand Stihls go for on e-bay I can purchase a new Makita DCS500 for £325. I actually used this saw on the recent CS30 and CS31 course that I did and in my very limited knowledge and experience it seemed fine and did everything the Stihls the other lads were using did. Has any body got any views on the Makita gleened from their experiences? Thanks very much Derek

Hello everybody, I am in the process of establishing a new firewood business and am researching processors. Front runners at the moment would appear to be the Hakki Pilke 1x37; the BGU KSA370Z and the Palax KS35. I would be grateful for any comments from owners/users of such machines to assist with my decision and if anybody within 100 miles of Newcastle Upon Tyne has one and would be prepared for me to visit and see the machine working that would be great. Also is worth volunteering to register for VAT? Any other useful tips would be appreciated too.
