  5. I did this today!!🙈 dropped brand new battery in battery box, feeling pretty smug as probably hardly a mm to spare, fitted like a glove. Connected it up etc, wondered why it sparked a bit. Wondered why lights wouldn't work. Never even occured to me to check correct way round, lug/bolt thru type terminals. What a dope! Haven't tried starting it, could this have caused any damage to battery or electrical system? 23hp petrol engine.
  6. Yes mate, a mixture of places I’ve not been to before and places I haven’t been to for a long time. Wrist is healed now so I’ve no excuses not to get back on the tools.
  7. Big arse piece of plywood or card, start at say 20m and keep going back. And these parallax scopes, wtf know you're drops.
  8. Can’t argue against the French copper who shot the synagogue arsonist? Good on him👍
  9. I guess the Stiga is similar to the Husqvarna Rider which I am more familiar with, when you engage the pto you hear the cluck of the electromagnetic clutch engaging yes? is the bottom pulley now spinning? if yes then it has to be a belt tension issue, either with the belt from the pto pulley, or the belt on the top of the deck, the one on the deck will have a spring loaded tensioner, this may have become disconnected and no longer tensioning the belt.

  11. If everyone who’s getting older, having aches and pains in their joints etc gave up the tools and became consultants there wouldn’t be enough consultant jobs to go around? Mind you perhaps there’d be more tree work for those who stuck it out to the bitter painful end🤔. Not everyone wants to walk around with a clipboard like Blakey from “On the Buses”, there’s me showing my age😳. Of course we do need consultants, but I can get one fairly easily if needed, try finding a decent climber or groundy that’s not already gainfully employed?
  12. Essentially someone bought some land with no planning restrictions that was thought to be impossible to build on because of potential mining issues. It was available for sale to the highest bidder, and nobody else fancied paying any more for it. Said buyer invested (heavily I would imagine) in ground investigations and subsequently proved that where they want to build 3 houses is actually suitable from a ground-stability perspective. It seems a bit late to be moaning about potentially having new neighbours if I’m honest. An investor has gambled and it looks like it may well pay off. Nobody wants development next to them - that’s why everyone knows the term NIMBY…
  13. Hi all, I am a groundsman and second climber looking for work in the Liverpool/Merseyside area. I have my own climbing kit, ppe and tickets: Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting, Fell and Process Trees up to 380mm, Tree Climbing and Rescue, Aerial Tree Pruning, Aerial Cutting/Free Fall Techniques, Aerial Tree Rigging, Safe Use of Manually Fed Wood-chipper, Safe Use of a Powered Pole Pruner I also have a Level 3 in Arb and 5 years experience in the industry on a self-employed basis and sub-contracting on the railways. I have just got back from a year in Ontario Canada where I was working in forestry. I am moving from Preston to Liverpool early next month, so if anyone knows of any work in the area I’d appreciate a shout. Cheers

  15. He's a really nice bloke, I've known him for years. My 353 came from him.
  16. So a few months back, a large sycamore fell over after root failure. This tree was providing shade to the two mature beeches next to it. With this gone, I've noticed patches of peeling bark on lower sections of the stem facing westwards where most sun will come from during the day. I know there's not a lot to be done with the bark already damaged. But is there any value in painting parts of the stem white to prevent further damage?

  21. Hmm,i tend to drop a tad from 50:1 to 45:1,just I suppose as an insurance policy given my machines can run pretty much flat-out for 3 odd hours in increasingly hot summers, also I thought/hoped that the semi synth would/should run a bit cleaner and leave less deposits than the old standard red mineral stihl oil?But thats largely guesswork on my part.Either way,its the first time I've seen this happen on stihl b/cutters/blowers/chainsaws etc etc.Of course, given the guidance on birds and summer hedgecuts, this machine lies idle more than I'd like these days! But as far as I understand it this machine has low revving built in-v.low gearing, low flat out speed, large tooth gap,so I suspect it doesnt get the opportunity to clear out its lungs properly...!
