  2. Sorry if you have done this, but Id suggest lots of testing with a multimeter first to isolate the issue and map out how the electrics work. Not sure what car it is, but I check with the engine running rather than just with the ignition on. I use a crocodile clip to extend the multimeter to battery negative or known earth. Check for voltage with each part of the wiring - battery to fuse, check fuse, to switch, to light. Then check continuity to light's earth. As above, once you have found the part of the system that's not working, crawl around and look for obvious issues or just bypass the standard wiring.

  6. After a busy winters work, operating in all weathers and ground conditions, nesting season provides the ideal opportunity to consider giving your woodchipper some well-needed TLC! GreenMech offer operators some top tips on simple, routine maintenance to consider conducting over the summer months to prevent costly repairs and downtime. Looking firstly at towed woodchippers. If you’ve been working in dusty environments, check and clean radiators and filters to ensure water-cooled engines retain adequate airflow to perform effectively. If your engine is air-cooled, the engine inspection panels and any debris should be removed to prevent any ‘hot spotting’ of the cylinders. Like a vehicle, fluid levels should be monitored to maintain the operational integrity of your chipper. If the radiator has a header tank, check the level in the radiator and change the fluids/filters as instructed in the machine manual. Grease the chipper as per the manufacturer’s instructions and inspect all safety features such as the control bar and cut-out switches to ensure these are working as intended. Sharpen the blades to avoid the transfer of shock loads into the bearings – a good edge on the shear bar/anvil is also needed for efficient chipping. As obvious as it may seem, give the chipper a wash down! Keeping your investment clean will help to prevent degradation of the paint from residual dirt and salt. While inspecting your towed chipper, don’t forget the trailer. Ensure the brakes, lights, floor, ramps, securing points and tyres (including the jockey wheel) are all in good, road-legal condition. For tracked woodchippers, all of the above tips also apply. In addition, ensure that the tracks are in good order, with no visible signs of damage and that tracking components and controls are operating as intended. Next, double check the toolbox – if you needed to refit a lost track as per the manufacturer’s instructions, would you have the right tools to do so? Finally, check the condition of any additional accessories, particularly winches which should be equipped with quality rope in good condition. Those operating a tractor mounted/powered woodchipper will note that many of the pointers already listed will be applicable to both the chipper and the tractor. In this scenario, you’ll also want to ensure that the correct specification PTO shaft is fitted, in good order and with the correct guarding. Some have a ‘slip clutch’ which will need to be set at the correct torque settings. Others may need a ‘shear bolt lobe’, so check you have some spare bolts in the toolbox. Check the hydraulic hoses are correctly fitted and that the in-cab controls are working as they should. If a 12v supply is needed to run the ‘No Stress’ device or beacon, ensure that the correct light cable is refitted if the tractor is intended for highway use. Finally, grease as required – not forgetting the UJ spiders and plastic guards covering the shaft. 10. Not so much a case of the weight you're putting on them as, if they're bent when you bought them, even slightly, then so will every piece of wood you mill on them. Put them together top face to top face, if there's a gap at all between them you'll know you're not going cut to the absolute best possible.
  11. It’s in bits in the shed drive unit out and being inspected after checking that parts available to repair it hoping mechanic had a good memory to put it together again 🫰🫰
  12. Is it running all drive belts ? I’ve had mine performing badly and realised the original drive belts had started to break. is the drive belt tensioner stuck ? The tension is basically the engine weight but the rod it sits on should be greased occasionally and if it isn’t it’s known to get stuck… . The anvil and blades I would not of thought would have made that much difference although there should be a 1mm gap and blades set to that when changed… anvil is easy to change or turn.. personally not a massive fan of the whisper cut, my old 220 with two blades was easier to maintain and chipped better…the whisper cut has to be kept sharp and has a habit of very occasionally getting bits wedged between anvil and v on start up. is the hydraulic clutch starting to fail… this is the machines only week point, overland told me to change the oil every two blade changes but mines still got coming up to 2k hours on original clutch but I’m expecting to change it soon….it will out last another on the market and keep up with others for chipping. Personally I would not look at another chipper.. all of them have weak points but the Schliesing is very agricultural and easy to work on and rarely will it fail..that being said if I was looking for a machine to replace every 3 years the new 280 Timberwolf looks good.

  22. Not work job related but after quite a few heavy hints last month, I received a fantastic ’Father’s Day’ present from the kids, a Tasmanian Tree Fern (Dickinsonia antarctica). So this morning we cleared an unkempt, shaded shrub bed, which was bordered by broken concrete slabs, and replanted, manured, mulched and watered. We then created a new border with the remains of the stone used in the construction of the bread oven. I planted one of these ferns back at my old place in Lancashire 30 years ago, it is still going strong in the care of the new owner.
  23. I tried looking on YouTube at the various vids on Holder vintage rallies, Holders in vids of forestry working but the best I could find picture-wise was a lad stripping and rebuilding his A60 and then a first start vid showing the side view of his tractor without the front wheel but the loader on his is “the other type” , longer loader arms with underslung cylinders for tipping the bucket and a fancy pivot in the front arms connected to the top of the bucket by bars. His was a grey loader ( manufacturers colour) My loader is green (Holder green colour) In my internet search I came across a guy on this forum from about 10 years ago showing off his new paint job on his Holder, having the same style loader, I was hoping he or someone else with my type loader has some detailed piccies of the bits I’m missing. Any help much appreciated G
  24. Yes, me. Ironically my chipper is yellow so the orange not an upgrade, but you can't have everything.
  25. In the autumn you can check all around the base of the tree for fungal brackets, if you really want to investigate you can pay for a PICUS test or similar, will be able to detect the amount of decay in the base of the trunk As its US, here is a link to one of the long established US forums (if you ask there it has a tree care and health section) https://www.masterblasterhome.com/ If the tree is infected by October you should see fruiting bodies around the base e.g below is an image of inside a tree trunk - an expensive service, but may give you peace of mind
