  1. Are they any good ? Or is it a case of buying cheap buying twice ?
  2. My mate is a retired electrical design engineer, he reckons my saw battery costs about a few quid to make, I know there is distribution costs etc to factor in but the manufacturer seems to be making a fortune on the batteries and even more on the chargers. Eventually there will be Chinese copies for 1/4 of the price.
  3. Rotatech strech like crazy, not good quality at all, almost single use disposable chain. I stopped using them a few years ago. Wouldn't put them on a battery saw where a good sharp chain is a must. As Rough hewn said Sthil battery saws are good but need a good quality sharp chain.
  4. If you've got the makita battery and charger then go makita, not heard anything bad about them. The machines aren't too expensive the money is in the batteries and chargers. I don't have any other battery tools so i bought the Sthil 120 battery saw and love it. As has been said don't make it work too hard and keep the chain sharp and you'll have yourself a right handy little saw, especially for stop/start jobs like cutting up branches for firewood etc.
  5. I got the Sthil 120 battery saw (Rough Hewn's advice) with the 12 inch bar and its great, used it loads this winter on mostly Birch and Syc coppice and love it. Still need petrol saw for anything over 10 inch, it is a really useful little tool. Picco is an arse pain to sharpen tho ! its easy to keep clean too, I'm a bit OCD about clean tools. Can see me replacing the bigger saws in the shed with battery in the future, but not for a while yet, battery and charger prices are a bit too much.
  6. I did quite a bit of syc this winter and find it snaps quite suddenly on you at times, did the last few with the 45 degree down dog tooth to release the holding wood and it seemed to help. But they weren't very big and all were felled with the lean.
  7. I've been clearing some old syc this winter and have regularly "located" staples and old wire in them, couple of chains badly damaged, please don't hammer staples in and wrap wire round trees its just a disaster for the trees and the saw coming to harvest them years later. Electric quick and easy alternative and i do like the sound of the live willow hedge/fence.
  8. Ditto. Great saw.
  9. I’m with Kriss, MENTAL !
  10. Felling and snedding is fine I find that sorting out the brash is the knackering bit. I totally understand chippers now !
  11. Billy Connelly used to say that we are all allowed a certain amount of alcohol in our life, it just depends how we space it out. My dad used to say everything in moderation, especially moderation !
  12. Lordy you have been busy I did about 12 old syc stools this winter and it was hard work. Up side was good firewood for next winter. never mind 3 hectares ! You must be looking forward to spring for a rest !
  13. Have to agree 100%.
  14. I agree on all the negative reviews, they are cold on a cold day, hot on a hot day and weigh a ton. Torture devices !
  15. 120 is a lovely wee saw would be ideal for this type of work, just keep it sharp !
  16. Just show them your flux capacitor ! 😎
  17. Please leave it.
  18. Not many positives for my family, wife and I both doctors so have worked more hours this year than the bothy cat ! Garden looks good, cut loads of firewood, built a summer house but really miss family and friends. Haven’t played much golf in the last year and miss my mates. Honestly cannot see how there have been any positives from this, NHS wrecked, economy wrecked, kids education wrecked it’s a bloody disaster. Sorry not to be 100%positive but there it is.
  19. I've got a bit of bamboo superglued to a fridge magnet. I guess if this is a Sthil product it won't be cheap.
  20. Another vote for tongs, save your back and don't aggravate my tennis elbow like the pickeroon does. I've the Husky ones very good, can't imagine what you would have to do to break them so should last for years. Pickeroons blunt and break.
  21. Spilled my coffee laughing 😆
  22. Me too, makes great firewood if processed quickly after felling and stored correctly.
  23. Where I live they'd nick the wood never mind leaving your tools out. My saws live in an unheated brick shed and it is cold and a bit damp and they all start fine, (120, 550, 365). Although I do bring the battery in to the house for the 120.
  24. Tidy saw for ringing up, is it a 365 ? I’ve got one and I love it.
  25. Love my L200. Fairly bulletproof.
