  1. Little Sthil battery saw, brilliant !
  2. Once they sort out the price of chargers and batteries I think all little saws will be battery, light compact, easy to keep clean and quiet. I love mine and the cold yesterday made no noticeable difference.
  3. A mate has some ego mowers and strimmer and rates them highly. He is an experienced gardener so I respect his opinion. I just got a good deal on the Sthil so went with it. Going to cut some branches today so will report back on how the battery lasted in the snow.
  4. Since the world is now divided up into 3m squares with a 3 word code for each how come boris is always standing in incompetent, useless, arsehole ??
  5. Yeah the 440 was good but the 550 is different class.
  6. I’ve had a 440 and it’s a good saw but agree not a pro saw, however the mk2 550 is ! It’s a nimble all rounder, no need for a 40 cc if you’ve a 550.
  7. I hand file all the time, once you get set up and get good you can go at it like a fiddlers elbow. Recently learned how to square file with the double chisel file, I mostly cut syc and larch, and square flys thru them. There is a knack to it and I killed a couple of chains learning it !
  8. Another vote for rowan, and the birds like the berries !
  9. does this count as an export to boost our GDP ??
  10. I was looking for an electric saw a few weeks ago and got the Sthil 120 battery saw, thought about a corded saw but battery is mor versatile. It’s a wee cracker, a good bit more than a Titan, but having tried both the Sthil is a different class. You won’t regret it, I haven’t and as I’ve said many times before on Arb talk I’m tight as fu+k !
  11. I used a hot glue gun to glue an oil bottle on to my 2 stroke mix 5 litre plastic can. But I’m tight as fu+k!
  12. Consultants can work in the private sector only in there own time. Many therefore don’t work full time NHS so they can do private. Many don’t as the return for the time isn’t as good as people think. I do logs in my free time, and play golf, head space is more important to me than money. My wife runs and sews, it’s all about balance. Just to quote Yoda !
  13. It may have changed but agency medical staff are essentially self employed .
  14. Forgot to say agency also don’t get paid leave or sick pay.
  15. Full time, and PT, NHS staff are not allowed to do agency work, although they can work over time and most hospitals have a bank of staff willing to do this. To be an agency staff you have to be wholly employed by the agency who negotiate your pay on your behalf, and take a hefty cut for doing so. Agency staff do get paid more than normal staff, but a large part of the difference is taken by the Agency "middlemen" ! Being an agency nurse means you don't however get a pension contribution by your employer and you are responsible for your own NI and tax. Also you go from one place to another often on a daily basis !
  16. Brampton, Cumbria.
  17. Had 5 cube nicked last week all split and stacked. They will steal anything these days and must have taken ages to hand ball away. locally logs go for £75 a cube so about £375-350 for a bit of light fingered activity .
  18. minus 2 here already an a pea soup fog to go with it.
  19. It was the file that came with guide so perhaps not the best. Can see using the dremel being the first choice tho ! 👍
  20. The file just bent at the junction with the wooden handle, i bought the Stihl file plate guide and hold both ends when i file, and it still bent, just finding picco a bit of a pain. Don't think this wee saw would be so good with a bigger chain, so i guess i'll just have to soldier on and get a magnifying glass on a stand so I can see to do it free hand as i don't love the guide. The up side is its so easy to wipe it down and keep it clean after work. I'm quite OCD about clean sharp tools !!
  21. Did 2 cube of dry oak branches today with a charge in between. Very impressed, but picco chain is awful to sharpen ! Files bent in the handle !
  22. Grey and bitter cold wind with squally sleet showers in North Cumbria
  23. Cold, grey sky, drizzling and very windy. Standard Christmas weather in Cumbria !
  24. Minus 4 and clear. Off to work now. Merry Christmas everyone 🎄🎄🎄
  25. Or perhaps he has taken advice and is waiting till a local tree surgeon can fit him in and do a safe dismantle as many have suggested on here.
