  1. Yes, I just looked this up on the HSE website. Seems LOLER doesn't apply but PUWER would if we had employees & the truck is company registered. In my case its no to both as its in my name/address & we have no employees. Theres no telephone advice line at HSE so I had to leave an email which they hope to answer with...30 days!
  2. Just been told we should have the (Transit) tipper mechanism LOLER checked. Anyone know if thats true?
  3. Unbeatable, rugged, simple & if its a smaller one, fairly easily carried. We use an old 1600 which is enough for us but there are far heavier. Someone more knowledgeable will no doubt be along to tell you the exact capacities. Cost us about £200 inc 20 mtrs of cable off ebay. I think the cable has to be exactly the right dia/type to ensure the mechanism doesn't fail.
  4. Excuse my ignorance but what means 'fast tow trailer'? Ones in the pics look suitable from the woods to yard via road but are they meant as off-road AND road use up to the (60mph?) limit?
  5. We did some letter drops although I wasn't keen so didn't participate. We had 4 or 5 jobs, with more in the pipeline as a result of dropping around 30 leaflets so I can't knock it. Still not keen on this idea somehow just as it doesn't feel right, as I don't like getting flyers myself, just my opinion. If you're happy to do it & the area isn't saturated in leaflets etc then good luck & hope it works.
  6. Sat here amid the ripping & shrieking mayhem reading...Norwegian Wood by Lars Mytting.
  7. Same to you matey & all those behind the scenes that make the magic.
  8. Agreed...good service & nice to hear of a co getting credit.
  9. Quiet & seclusion for me is ok for a couple of weeks, bit longer maybe. As for living all the time...right here in Kent. I know there are other, better places but chasing dreams isn't for me when you're familiar with somewhere? Boring maybe but happy, oh yes.
  10. Ooh must remember this at renewal time. Thanks
  11. I was about to buy a domestic electric log splitter (without her knowledge) but when she saw me using a maul for a few hours she said "We need a splitter, so thats what I want for Xmas". It came a few days ago, what a woman! Just need her to 'need' a newer tipper for next Xmas.
  12. Some tolerance needs forcing upon them?
  13. I wouldn't badmouth other arbs whether it be to the customer or anyone else. It smacks of desperation & anyway, life is too short & there is always enough work to get by if you price reasonably & are any good. Forget him.
  14. If you search the threads I'm sure this same question was answered...& then some.
  15. '06 Transit has 128K & '02 Disco td5 has 130k. Both get abuse/care in equal measure.
  16. The message keeps coming up offering this so can anyone tell me if its any good?
  17. Had some grins reading this thread but in response to DTC's question re use of the customer's loo... After copious cups of the customer's tea, I just had to :001_rolleyes:ask to use her facilities, there being no public/garage toilets & was offered the use of her (old fashioned high cisterned) lav. Bit crude here but...couldn't bloody shift it even after 3 flushes with miserable water pressure taking it 8/10 mins each time to refill! Her face was a picture when I emerged:blushing: half an hour later, sort of sympathetic & questioning. Got into the truck as an excuse then laughed my head off out of earshot/view. Surprisingly we still got a tip.

    New Ms 362

I must be in the minority, being impressed with the 362. Had the first a year now & it gets some heavy use, never had a prob so got another last month, with heated handle. Getting nervous now...waiting for them to fail.
  19. Only difference I think is the mk2 has 4 disc blades rather than the original 2.
  20. Sounds about perfect for your needs. Re the trailer...I thought it too exy so used an adapted motorcycle trailer which worked well until we moved up.
  21. Welcome Midge. I too was a newbie to this work until a year ago. Plenty of advice to be had here, some of it is even good.
  22. Reading this, or another thread re winches last week reminded me how we sometimes needed one. Just got an old Tirfor 1.6 with a 20 metre cable/hook off fleabay for £170, so now waiting to have a play. It has no 'ID/spec plate' but will it need Loler do you think?
