Stick a long flexible pipe on it and run it outside, cheaper than fitting extraction and more effective as well.

Better to use some good quality mastic I reckon, bit more pliant.

If you trap the chain with the revs on it soon warms up as it's metal to metal, get it flat out before you touch it to the wood and keep it flat out till it goes through. A bit of bluing won't hurt it.

I got one of the £70 top handles a few years ago for a one off job at home and it's had a few outings now. I run it on Aspen instead of the recommended 25:1 mix and it's had a carb kit but it starts and runs after standing for months at a time. It does cut out on the over run sometimes but it's a doddle to start even up a tree. I'd like something with a bit more power but at the price I paid for this I can't complain about it.

My friend came up today with his David Brown and rear mounted splitter. We split two of my little trailer loads in an hour and nearly filled the wood store so I can leave looking for a splitter for a while. I'm looking for a tractor now instead

My thinking was to count the number of sleepers if they are regularly spaced. -
Not familiar with electric saws but motors lose power because of brushes or capacitors in my experience unless they have gone smelly and let all the magic smoke out then they are shot Diagram for the motor here and the parts are listed. The smoke is not available though.

That's what I am finding. We are getting arb "arisings" and a lot of it is knotty gnarly stuff I end up cutting down the grain with the saw. I'd like to take a piece of wood to split as a demonstration before buying my next splitter, all the videos show old soft looking stuff being split. Thanks for the pointers I'm dithering now as the Portek looks like a better option than the whining from the hydraulic splitter plus how slow it moves.

Wife and I have been to this for the last 4 years and enjoyed every one of them. As above it's more for the family not really a trade thing. Wood turners showing and selling their wares and The Council tree team and Rangers showing what they do. I watched the climbers and some milling being done and you can sample some bush food in the bit of a wood, pigeon and squirrel plus they build a pizza oven on site and cook in that. We've had a go at pole lathing and watched some saw carving, passes an afternoon nicely.

My 4 ton splitter has given up on me and I need something stronger but preferably electric and not too costly. Do the 7 ton horizontal machines that look like mine have much more poke for some Beech my old one wouldn't even look at?

It will last forever the way I use them, I only cut for the woodburner but I like to tinker with saws. I've been down to a friendly farm cutting for the woodpile with my 135 this afternoon. A local arb firm dumps there and it needs thinning out every so often so it's doing all of us a favour

How far apart are the sleepers, is it a uniform distance countrywide ?

I've just been cutting some wood with an 044 I put a new piston in. It's a bit big for a woodpile saw but it pulls like a train. Bit smaller than your 046 and I had to pay money for it and put a 20" War Tec bar and chain on it from eBay garden-hire-spares, it made me grin using it.

What's caused that, is it rubbing or is something pulling on it and are spares easily available ? Good to find and fix a problem though. I had a moped with similar problem but it only used to stop when it rained. I just wrapped amalgamating tape round the manifold and it ran for years like that.

I've got 33 gig of Seinfeld, all 9 series on my drive and I'll have to watch them again now to find that one.
