  1. That's like this seized 044 I just did. It was full of greasy sawdust and the flywheel side needed a shovel to clean it out it was so full of something like soil you could hardly see the ignition coil, don't know what it had been cutting. Brake cleaner and air line then a paint brush to get in the corners and it looks like somebody loves it now.
  2. Start/run capacitor on the motor would be my first port of call Steve. It's the round thing with two wires going to it. Read the numbers off the old one and order the same, I got one for my pressure washer for £6 from the local electrical supplier when it started to go clunk instead of firing up. You could bypass the switch and just switch it at the wall to eliminate it from the list.
  3. It takes about 15 minutes to remove and strip a carb, procrastinating about what else you should do will not get it fixed. Find out what kind of carb it has and order a kit for it (usually under £10 sometimes under £5) then if that doesn't work start looking for other options.
  4. Are ticks a real risk for climbers, I thought they were more of a low level threat
  5. Not Echo but I've used a couple of same saws and they develop their own characteristics and the brake is one part that never feels the same on two saws. You sometimes have to snap the brake all the way back to the top handle to release it and then only have to move another one back a couple of inches. Use it and get used to it.

    Stihl 051AV

Drain the chain oil out of it just to see if it will run longer without any, a couple of minutes not cutting will not hurt. You'll most likely have to do something with the carb before it will run properly anyway.
  7. Just been watching Yesterday channel on freesat and Stihl sponsor on there. Not seen this before. They also pronounce it differently more like Shteel and they were promoting their garden tools.
  8. I have Meindl, they take some breakin in.
  9. See, 65 and still learning, that's the power of the internet.
  10. Good tip I was given a long time ago "always put thy barrow near thy muck"
  11. I always lift the bar nose when tightening the nuts but I have found also on my saw that if I tighten the front nut first it makes the chain feel tighter again so I nip the back nut first and it stays the same tension. Broken adjuster would explain the loosening
  12. We used to wash with Swarfega and moulding sand at the foundry, it cleaned your hands by removing the top layer of skin Microbeads have turned up in seafood and all over the place so it is a good thing getting rid of them.
  13. I put a carb kit in my 036 today. It wouldn't tick over or run apart from flat out. I stripped the carb and it was full of oiled up dust, first time I had it apart and now it runs really nicely. The seized 044 I bought has a new piston and clutch, cleaned the cylinder up and it runs well. It has the 18" 036 bar on but I have a 20" coming for it then need to find some wood to try it on.
  14. Have you tried changing the forum view to list so it looks like the old style. At the top of the page on the right click the box with three lines instead of the four squares.
  15. Just clicked my usual link to the site and got the database instead of opening the home page.
  16. I've just started getting notifications popping up with an annoying boing. Now disabled in settings. When did they get enabled ?
  17. Tried in Chrome and in Edge and still getting attach tags with numbers instead of pictures in some posts
  18. Sounds like witchcraft to me, burn them all and their familiars.
  19. If it's dragging that much something must be getting hot. It looks like it is not lining up properly. I would be contacting the seller to sort something out even if it means a 3 hour trip.
  20. Disconnect the wire from the coil to the cut out and see if you get a spark. Put a teaspoonful of fuel straight in the plug hole and warm the plug then put it back in and pull it with no choke.
