  1. The choke rod doesn't stop the saw but helps to start it. When you lift the choke lever to the stop position the black wire connected to the lever from the coil touches the spring and contacts the short yellow wire connected to the saw body by a bolt grounding the coil and cutting the spark. On a saw I repaired the wire came off the choke lever and I had to put a small tie wrap round it to hold it in place otherwise it had the same problem as yours. I stopped it by pulling the trigger to rev it then pressing the choke down and gassing it up but after the fix it worked as normal.
  2. Put some fuel in and fire it up and see what happens, then you can look for problems and solutions if any crop up.
  3. Toyota's put out a recall out on Yaris now to update the chainsaw protection.
  4. Clean one on eBay for £325 so go for at least that much for yours then put it towards something new of a similar size.
  5. If he can't ride a pushbike to work he's not bothered about getting there no matter what the job is. Two miles is not even a long walk, tell him to make his own way in and knock the smoking off.
  6. A stand of 7 large Sycamores in the local park have all died and been removed in the last 2 years, healthy one year then completely dead down one side for no apparent reason.
  7. If you did go the Stihl bar route it might be simpler to open the slot in the bar than to find 8mm studs. There is play in the bar slots as they locate on a wider section at the base of the stud.
  8. Plenty of UK sellers on eBay, click the UK only button under your search and filter through the Chinese ones you'll find L&S and ajgardenmachinery, tree_and_grass_spares, garden hire spares all based in UK.
  9. Chainsawbars.co.uk might be able to help you with your enquiries, try contacting them.
  10. You were just unlucky I guess. On the woodpile the other say I cut through a thick piece and rolled it over and saw green baler twine running all the way through it. If it had been wire I would have been swapping chains.
  11. I read the first post again and see my misunderstanding of the situation. When BB says don't think that he installed the wire as a bodge I mistakenly understood it as someone else had done it I now see the error of my thinking.
  12. It's not holding anything on all it's doing is pushing up the cup washer, how does that help ? I honestly can't see what it's there for.
  13. What is the fence wire actually doing there ? I can see the clip under it
  14. Levis are using hemp in their jeans material as well, if these things catch fire will you be so relaxed you'll not be bothered.
  15. A friend of mine had some and didn't want the plastic inner containers but his lad cut the tops off them and put some lagging round the cut edge, filled them with water and the kids had a great time .
  16. Where is your diagram from? the list of part numbers is at the side of the picture on diyspareparts.com.
  17. That L&S part number 27 looks like the one I'll get some ordered. Thanks all.
  18. Is the MS170 tank neck same as the MS460 ? The ones I've seen have screw caps not flippy and the retainer on mine is different to the one in the picture. I called at the Stihl dealer and he will only do a complete cap so I have gone the DIY route, bent a bit of welding rod round the end of the string and pushed it into the neck and it does the job for now.
  19. The plastic bit that fastens onto the end of the string and wedges in the neck of the tank. I can't even find a picture of it. I will nip into the local Stihl shop next week and look on their parts list.
  20. Question - can you get the bit of plastic that stops Stihl fuel and oil caps from falling off when you undo them? They are missing on my saw and it's a pain and I can't find them anywhere.
  21. I have 3 round of tree trunk stacked on top of each other to split wood on. If I lift the top piece there are always worms between them. I clear them out and put them in the compost bin yet they will be there again next time.
  22. There's lots on eBay from China for about £12. Looks like MS181 carb so there should be plenty available.
  23. I don't understand this, can you show what you mean as your explanation is not making sense. Has the circlip come off the screw or something ? You can get the whole mechanism for about £5 on ebay.
  24. When I was gardening we used to do a 12' tall Yew hedge at one of the houses. It was about 30' long across the front of a walled garden and was sided up and the top squared off every year. We didn't refuse to do any of it because we weren't "tree surgeons". Why did your man set on tree surgeons to do a gardening job. I read your tirade in the original post and come to the conclusion you just like to have a rant. Did they do what they were asked ? Yes and you say they did a shoddy job yet you have to go and fix their otherwise tidy work as a favour. Why do you get yourself involved and worked up over something that is not your problem?. The landlord should have been there or told them exactly what he wanted and if he isn't happy with the job he should get them back to finish it. Some landlords suck, some tree surgeon/gardeners suck and if you're lucky you might get a woman that does if that is your inclination Yesterday I fixed a neighbour's pressure washer just for a thank you. A repair shop told him it was not worth it, they probably suck as well but I didn't think to post a rant about it anywhere. I'm retired and don't mind helping anybody out and it only took me about an hour. He's a friend and we have been neighbours for 30+ years and I would rather do anyone a favour than a disservice, just get on with it and calm down and stop posting your rants as you know how it's going to end. Think of butterflies and calm blue oceans before you start typing your thread titles and remember that if you can't say something nice sometimes it's better to not say anything at all. Learn how to put pictures in your posts and you might get a bit of support, you might not though as thick skulls take some penetrating with knowledge as well as opinions.
  25. Some Tree Surgeons Suck......... Tree surgeons don't do hedges that's a gardener's job. I was a gardener years ago and we used to trim hedges and prune small trees if they were in the hedge. All in a day for us working on an hourly rate.
