  1. Grants tend to come from LAG groups. There's a really good one in east Herts called Eastern Plateau - funds anything from machinery, marketing costs, infrastructure etc depending on the project. Max grant 40% net VAT.
  2. Happy with my Defender 130 - I'd have another, but my td5 is just run-in at 190k 🙃
  3. That's why I have a LR defender 130 - 1.5 ton payload and 3.5t towing
  4. Fibreglass handles always flex too much. I've got 2 of the Stihl 3.5kg splitting mauls with Ash handles, protected end plates and shaft shields. Never failed or moved in 6 years.
  5. Try Kindlewood in Suffolk, speak to Phil: http://www.kindlewood.biz
  6. SuSilva based at Grantham offer an Alstor 8x8 for extraction & have all the other roadside kit to extract or try the man of the woods - John Fish at Treewood Harvesting.
  7. Ant anstead had one on (2016/17 model) test for a magazine recently, seams the wheel arches are all open with no covers. Meaning all the road crap blows into the engine bay and all the chassis nooks & crannies......
  8. There are so many mowers to choose from & don't forget remote control alternatives like - "Delly" the Deltrak.
  9. Don't care where they've gone! As someone with a severe allergic reaction to the acid stings of wasps & hornets, the fewer the better.
  10. Ecu's are v. Expensive if they fail - circa £3k.
  11. PISTOL by Bayer is what we use for areas not intended to bear vegetation. It's a residual herbicide that contains glyphosate for immediate knockdown. It then keeps killing / staying active on the surface of the soil / in the soil for up to 6 months. Costs about £140 + VAT from ALS
  12. My Defender 130 has a built hydraulic pump with 54 lt/min flow rate, so I'd go for an engineless version
  13. All look great when new and shiny but they do depreciate. My Defender 130 on the other hand is worth more than when I bought it 4 years ago....
  14. Sounds like a scam I got hit by about 10yrs ago by a company from Liverpool, they had a host of titles like "the fireman", "uk police forces" etc.
  15. If you're delivering firewood to domestic customers, VAT on delivery would be 5%
  16. Talk to midland tree surgeons nr burton on Trent - have offered a national stumpgrinding service since early 70's. I know used to work for them and do the job.
  17. Couple of apprentices at £2.75 / hr?
  18. My reverse drive alpine tractor has a heavy duty Caroni flail fitted with boot flails, happy to quote for doing the work.
  19. Stihl FS310 or FS410 clearing saw - can fit Supercut 40-2 head, shredder kit, Polycut blades and it will munch most things.
  20. Takes Land Rover techies about an hour to lift the body on a disco 3 - only 10x bolts holds the body to the chassis.
  21. I had an ex-environment agency 53 plate; at 100k, viscous fan sheared mountings & took out radiator/intercooler, at 150k big end failed, it had been serviced regularly by Mitsubishi main dealer all its life & not abused. Service costs are high, spare parts are expensive, cab is cramped (if over 6 foot), payload is ok, leaf sprung rear suspension is archaic. Swapped to a Defender 130 - coil sprung, more dealers/specialists, lots of parts at very reasonable prices, easy to repair, high payload (1.5 tonnes), great towing ability.
  22. We're in the running for an RDPE grant towards a charcoal retort' aiming to produce charcoal from the timber we source from woodlands we have under management. More news to follow....
  23. Ive got air springs on the rear of my 130 - makes all the difference when loaded & towing. 🤔
