  1. Been using Silky saws since their introduction in the early 90's. When Midland Tree Surgeons started stocking the innovative Original Sky Harness from Swensk Tradvard of Sweden. Best thing since sliced bread.
  2. I am a producer/trader on BSL for both firewood and WoodFuel pellets (in addition to other Woodfuel accreditations) As I have a number of RHI customers, who purchase both pellets and firewood, I will be continuing with the BSL scheme.
  3. Years ago at a national arb day, the boss of Midland Tree Surgeons - Robert Kennedy, was doing a piece to camera (local tv). Standing next to and (unfortunately in) coils of climbing & lowering ropes, saws etc. One of the demo gangs close by was feeding brush into a chipper... Suddenly in a scene out of horror film, rope was caught into the chipper and in a split second Robert Kennedy's leg transformed into a corkscrew! Luckily his leg was saved but he has scars to scare the kids.
  4. Just signed up to a deal with BT Infinity - 46mb/s 😃
  5. We've used an exhaust airbag jack. Good on soft ground and able to lift considerable weight.
  6. Just wondered thoughts on JCB 520-40 or 520-50 telehandlers, as there seems to be a lot available on various plant websites.
  7. Skyhuck, how high will they reach? I currently borrow my farmer landlord's loadall to move and stack timber crates. It's a bit big in the barns but does have 4 wheel steer/crab steer.
  8. As a backup, try FirstFour 4x4 in Devon. They designed pto hydraulic and engine driven hydraulic systems for defenders - talk to Peter Lamb
  9. Power cut in NN9 just after the Xmas dinner was finished. A great way to get rid of the poor tv showing on tv this year.
  10. Probably not. The defender transfer box has a dedicated pto output on the transfer box direct from the factory
  11. Alternatively consider an alpine tractor from Riko in Hampshire. Great handling tractors in confined spaces, both articulated and reverse drive options with a lot of useful attachments. I love mine to bits!
  12. There's also Blacktrac in Northants. Jake Black knows his stuff and sticks a lot of yanmar/kubota compact tractors. Well worth giving him a ring - he delivers as well.
  13. Try the stage1 or stage 2 remap from JE Engineering. I've got a stage 1 on a td5 130 - 175bhp & 395NM 😃
  14. Treewood harvesting have a log waste boiler that heats a large water tank which in turns provides heat via heat exchangers for a custom made kiln. Think they dry 18m3 in about 72 hrs. And claim commercial rhi
  15. I sell about 6 - 10 tonnes of Verdo wood briquettes a year. Don't sell as a replacement for firewood. Sell them to compliment firewood. High heat output - 55kwh/kg
  16. We're based just outside Ware. http://www.hertswoodfuel.co.uk / http://www.horticman.co.uk
  17. We use folding stillage cages and a bespoke-made log crate. Along with vented bulk bags
  18. I'm in east Herts, already team up with 2 forestry / tree surgery contractors but business networking for small outfits is how we survive.
  19. Protimeter - expensive but accurate at all air temps. Comes with hammer probes. Ultra reliable
  20. The moisture content of our firewood is currently 14 - 16%. When we were audited by WoodSure and Grown in Britain earlier in the year , oven dry tests showed our firewood was 12 - 13.8%. Pretty good for barn dried firewood.
  21. I've got 2 Lazer RS4 lightbars - marine spec, been on the defender 4 years never go wrong - made in Hertford, so British Made
  22. Only certain Defender 110's are rated at 3500kg, most are 3050kg. Only a Defender130 is 3500kg. I regularly carry a full payload of 1.5tonnes on Defender TD5 without the wallowing affect others report. How? Easy, I uprated the polybushes all round to blue, unrated the coils front and rear and fitted air springs at the rear. They're linked to the compressor used for the air lockers and are totally adjustable. When empty, the pressure is about 5 - 10 psi which gives a smoother ride, when loaded the pressure is more like 30 - 35 psi and the defender rides level and doesn't misbehave. It's also got a JE Engineering Stage 1 remap that has given it a new lease of life and helps when fully loaded and pulling a trailer.
  23. It's catch 22, I've got 15 woodfuel pellet rhi customers & 4 log rhi customers who require the licence numbers I've been audited for. I have gained business as a result, so will stick with the scheme.
  24. I use LoneALERT, costs £115 for a licence covering up to 5 smartphones , plus additional £36 for the 24 hrs monitoring service. Download app for free. It's a brilliant app using the gps in the phone, plus other clever magic. You log in, set a timer in minutes - say 360, give a description of what you're doing & where & press enter. Couldn't be more simpler. The team at LoneALERT are very helpful & will set up a lot of the call logging lists up for you.
