  1. Edit, Sorry is was not a council depot, but West Yorkshire trading standards, or West Yorkshire Joint Services Nepshaw Ln S, Gildersome, Morley LS27 7JQ
  2. Don`t know if your sorted yet, and whether its too far for you, a council depot at morley had a free to use axle weigher out side. It was a few years ago when I used it so a few phone calls may be in order.
  3. I seem to remember `difflock` (think that's his user name, has a david brown and crane trailer as his avatar), had looked into them, and posted about them. Might be worth a pm if he doesn't see you post.
  4. I`ve used US Automotive in the past for dodge ram parts, and they where quite helpful.
  5. Around here (north wales) some trees, but mostly ash, have lost most of the leaves already.
  6. Surprisingly not much more, for a crane the size your looking at. The place that does mine price according to the tonne/meter size of the crane, trying to think how much it said on his price chart for smaller size cranes...think it was about £100-115.
  7. Don't tell you loler man that! part of the test is stability in all working positions.
  8. I done the ground work for a car park in a playing field for the community council a few years back, who wanted this mesh. I cant remember this exact spec but it was some thing like, excavate the area, lay edgings, 150mm hard core compacted, 80mm clean stone for drainage. Then the firm who supplied the mesh came to finish the installation, laying terram, screeding sand across the area, laying the mesh tiles, and topping off with screened top soil and seeding. The lads who where laying the tiles, said the edgings where quite important to hold the mesh in place, as they layed them tight side to side, between them. I would hazard a guess not so important in a domestic situation, using it yourself. The grass grew, very slowly in my opinion, and seemed to yellow a bit in summer, maybe too free draining? I don't pass there often, but it still seems to be there and not muddy and rutted in winter.
  9. how much payload would the defender have as a chassis cab? I think you would need a crane around the 8tm mark to comfortably lift 1 ton at 6m reach. A crane of that size would be just under a ton dry weight, +60 odd litres of hydraulic oil, then the subframe to mount it on. The other point to consider the stability when it comes to loler testing having quite a light base vehicle.

http://www.iveco.com/uk/collections/technical_sheets/Documents/New_Daily/Chassis_cab/N.Daily%2035C15,17,21%20Chassis.Cab.pdf The Iveco info for a chassis cab shows a kerb weight depending on wheel base of between 1895kg - 1935kg.
  11. When I was looking at getting a tipper a while back. Nugent would of been my choice. Seemed to be made more like the older (better?) Ifor Williams. I didn't got one in the end, just a change of circumstances, defiantly will consider them for next trailer.
  12. I you decide to go down a stick welding route (MMA or SMAW), and buying equipment, from my experience from having a relatively poor mains power supply here, is to buy an inverter welder rather than a tradition type welder, oil or air cooled. When we both an air cooler and oil cooled set using it after dusk, it would cause the lights to dip and flicker in the house, with the current inverter type you could weld with no problems at the same amperage.
  13. I thought GMAW (gas metal arc welding) was an other name for mig welding?
  14. When I bought my 372 new, it came on a 15", used up plenty of 15 bars on it with no problems.
  15. I know but trying to keep it simple to work it out in my head while typing. Makes no odds to me, as I`ve settled on my vehicle being commercial speed limits. What grade of diesel are we talking about? summer/winter? call it 850 grams per litre for argument sake. 61.2kgs 90% of 80l 2176.2kgs mass in service would put you in DPV class not 2187kgs as posted before.
  16. Just to muddy the water even more! ask the dealer what the mass in service would be stated on the log book? I would guess if no other figures where available plod would use this to ascertain the unladen weight, I believe mass in service includes 75kgs for driver and 90% fuel, toolkit, jack, etc. I my case, `13 plate ranger double cab 3.2, log book states 2228kgs mass in service less 75kg driver, and 72kg (90% of 80 litre tank) gives 2081kgs, I dare say you could argue that the tools and jack and other bits and pieces would come to 41 plus kgs to be in DPV class, but I`ve settled myself to think it comes under commercial speed limits. If the mass in service was stated as around 2187kgs (assuming 80 litre fuel tank) there would be no argument that it was a DPV.
  17. I`ve found Oregon duoline to be good, in 3mm for a 40cc Husqvarna, long lasting cutting up to rough stone walls, and not splitting where it exits the head, unlike some other cords I've tried.
  18. I thought they where about 7-7.5ton gross. Cant see you carrying 10 ton in the box unless you moving lead ore:biggrin:
  19. I assume your neighbours tractors where full size models, the OP`s tactor is a compact. Ty, have you had more metal since changing the oil last time? I`ll try and speak to someone I know who works in the local JD dealers see if he`s come across it before, although they do compacts in a different branch.
  20. Atkinson Vos Ltd Mercedes Unimogs - Specifications Off Atkinson`s web site, it does not list a 1450, but does list a 1250 which I believe is the same bar engine output, gives a 4210kg dead weight, but I think that is for a basic chassis cab, so the 3290kg payload stated would have to include weight of body, rear linkage, pto etc. I think skyhuck on the money at around 5000kg tare with body, chipper if mounted would have to be added to that, so with a heavy chipper of a 1000kgs, would give you 1500kg capacity.
  21. The new cats are a badge engineered wacker neuson, with a couple of small differences, bucket pin size I believe is one, A mate of mine has one of these small cats 2.5t I think and is pleased with it. I have a Hitachi 7.5t and an JCB 3cx, a neuson et20 would be my next machine purchase, just over 2 ton not much bigger than a 1.5t with tracks retracted, only slightly less reach than a 2.5t, with slightly less brake out force, with what appears to be decent build quality. My thinking for that weight is, you could carry it on a 3.5t tipping trailer (most seem to carry 2.3t to 2.6t) with attachments.
  22. Its for a standard agricultural PUH ring, autoguide don't appear to make them for a unimog any more unless they do it as a special, Hitches | Autoguide Equipment A rockinger hitch is a type of truck draw bar hitch JOST Katalog-ROCKINGER Produkte für Nutzfahrzeuge
  23. I was in kronospan chirk earlier today, speaking to a bloke from there he was saying they are planning on taking less round wood, and more saw dust, and I`m guessing recycled material. I know chip is not the best, but surely a reducing market for it is not a good thing.
  24. I think there is some thing about bare, unprotected hydraulic hoses within x cm distance of a operator, hence the use of burst sleeves, covered in, or remotely controlled valves on CE marked machinery. And agree with you out the injury's caused I know someone who nearly lost his thumb from a pin hole leak on a hose.
  25. As cornish wood burner said about the loop handle, also if your on embankments, in ditches, or anywhere that's not reasonably level a loop handle is best, if heavy brush cutting the bike handle would be the better bet, in my mind.
