  1. If your machine has not got pedals on the tracking leavers, if you have the blade in front of you can push the leavers at the bottom with you feet.
  2. To reduce damage when turning, put the bucket down slightly in the direction you want to turn and lift the machine slightly, then slew in the opposite way you want to turn, while operating the track needed to turn the desired way. Easier to show than write down, but it will help you turn without hardly leaving a mark, depending how far you want to turn/travel doing this you may need to power the other track slightly to stop it sliding and pull the dipper in and the boom up, or down depending on the angle of the dipper to stop the bucket skidding on the ground making a mess, and keeping the front of the tracks off the ground.
  3. I know what your saying about the difference between the japa and hp, some one I know has the japa, and I found it more of a pain picking the cut logs with my left hand, to the splitter. I`m right handed as well, I guess its down to personal choice. Swinny, try both types if you can, see what you prefer.
  4. I`ve got a hp eagle, off the top of my head was about 1650 new + vat. Works well for me and is good when using it on wood that is not dead straight (arb waste) as you can do a couple of cuts then turn the length to get an other couple of logs, and so on.
  5. There usually 4 speed.
  6. On the plus side, at least they haven't chucked it out of the window some where.
  7. I`ve looked at a job, in a private woodland and the owners are concerned about making too much disturbance for want of a better word. Most of the rides through it only suitable for compact tractor/quad, taking bigger tackle along them will involve a fair bit of work with digger in places, and generally making a bit of a `disturbance` which the owners want to avoid. So I was thinking about a compact trailer. Does anyone know of firms that hire such trailers? If no one hires them, would there be much interest from others, in hiring one? North wales/north west area. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi, there is one on ebay, Opico loader skidsteer power pack kanga | eBay I do know the bloke selling it, he`s upgrading to a slightly bigger boxer. Don't know much about the machine sorry, only see him using it up and down.
  9. Has it got a vosa/dvsa plating certificate now? If so what does it state as the design weight?
  10. Thanks, I`ll give them a bell, had a quick look on their site before starting this thread but did not spot it, quite possible I missed it.
  11. Just looked back in Wayne, Take it you cant get blue tongue by the metre then:laugh1: Got a couple of options to look at, Cheers all:thumbup:
  12. I`m after a short rope, about 20 - 25m, and after the glowing recommendations for blue tongue with zig zag, I though I would give it a try. Does any body know if it is sold in shorter lengths, or by the metre? I`ve got a recent `long` rope a tachyon, so don't really want an other long rope to cut down, my other old rope is 13mm, but the zig zag works so much better with the smaller diameter. Thanks in advance.
  13. What about the mats, they used to have in school gyms?
  14. Sorry to hear of you splitter being robbed. To get a second line off the winch is easily enough to do, with a 3 way valve in the system some where handy, and a extra return to the tank, or t'ed into the existing one. The valve will have a handle or knob on it, one way oil flows to one the winch and that works as normal, the other way diverts the flow to splitter. Depending where you've fitted the t valve, if between the pump and winch valve, you would have to make sure both pipes where connected from the splitter, before turning the valve, other wise you will cause damage to the pump or blow a pipe on the rb. If after the winch valve just connect up, change the 3 way valve over and work the winch valve, wedge it open to work the splitter. I use a 3 way valve to divert oil from the crane to a hydraulic winch on my truck.
  15. cant get in using desktop? some thing about flash policy, worked ok the other night.
  16. I would hazard a guess, you've not cut any limbs off with it either.
  17. Hi Stubby, I tried to but a splitter like that a couple of years ago, and was told they had stopped selling them, something to do with ce marking or some thing. Looked a good idea splitting both ways - time saver. Got plans drawn up in my head to make my own now, just need to sieve them out from the rest of junk floating around in my head and get them into metal!
  18. Don't know if is to late or not, as some one said if you sign up to news letter, you get the vat free days quite regular, anyway, the is one on this evening, and Sunday in machine mart Chester.
  19. Hi jfc, here's the assessment schedules to have a read through, I`m guessing there still current, event though the course numbers have changed, the is plenty of trainers/assessors on here to put you right if not. http://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/c6eb811f4dcb4ca68194d5ee8d98246f.pdf http://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/aec9ca196e7849fa990cd7f22e0d36a7.pdf To help you on your course, learn basic knots, show in you tree climbers companion book, or on here at the top, prussic, bowline, blakes hitch, fishersmans, etc so you are confident to tying them, so not to waste time on your course doing knots.
  20. The power beyond, most common use is for a separate spool block for a loader, so cant see a problem for your winch set up. I have a remote control hydraulic winch, on my truck for loading non running plant, of if struggling for traction/or safety on ramps, which uses as treequip says just an open centre valve, OK the remote works air solenoids, which allow pressure moves the spool, but still the same effect, on or off. If I need a bit move control I just run the pto at a lower rpm, not perfect but acceptable for what is needed. If I need true proportional control I have to use to spool leaver manually.
  21. Fair enough. In my experience, new type ranger, first is low enough to start off with loaded trailer on a reasonable hill. We've got some good hills/poor roads here in north wales. Low range on most modern pick ups, would be the same as the centre diff locked on your land rover, not axle diff locks, but yes the manufactures wouldn't recommend driving for long distances in 4x4 on high grip surfaces. If your losing traction, loaded or towing, I cant see any harm coming to transmission using 4x4.
  22. In those circumstances you say, would cause no harm to a pick up transmission in 4x4 high or low, as any wind up would be released, When you say you have slippage, is that with the centre diff locked or unlocked? If it is locked the transmission will, in effect be the same set up as the pick up.
  23. A case of mistaken identity Jon. Sorry to derail your thread, Regards, Craig. (With the full stop)
  24. Here you go Paul, a picture present I said about. Got to play with this today, Must say, I was impressed with its performance.
