  1. Nice 'thing' It's amazing how those sycamore shavings fly
  2. Those guys on the extended unicycles were fantastic- great entertainers. The whole event was flawless- music was cool-really enjoyed the day. Bookmark this one folks. Cheers for the heads up Alec:thumbup1:
  3. Just seen this alec. Loving the pictures on the web site. We're going. It's a longish hike but looks like a cool event
  4. Spent a lot of time when younger trying to do sensitive jobs on willows. Waste of time usually.
  5. whilst I'm a lover of dead wood for the fire, my chainsaws arn't:001_smile:
  6. Nice and light and effective. I think it's going to be worn out where the head is attached to the handle rather than broken as in snapped.
  7. Why when someone says 'pal' after a comment do I think they want to fight. Would 'bud' be better?
  8. Unviable as a cure and probably as a preventative Thats true. Best leave to see what happens. Thats the advice in Kent as I understand it.
  9. Or blow the bl**dy doors off
  10. my vote is for clean break value the equipment/stock, look at the list of regular customers your brother has helped establish. Think how hard it would be to generate this again. (this is the hard one) There must be a value to this. Now- halve the total and that gives his worth to the business the day before he died.. Pay, or promise to pay this amount which then means you have bought the business from the owners. Get another book keeper or learn to do it yourself until you start employing new staff. As then your book keeping problems will probably need to move a bit more professional. This seems to me a more fair way rather than just saying that the business has no value other than the value of its physical assets. After all, your niece is a blood relative and you presumably wouldn't want to spoil that relationship. Above all, be fair.
  11. almost the ultimate security then:thumbup1:
  12. Best not to burn chipboard etc. Glued wood. Releases all sorts of nasties. You would think they'd not be allowed to make stuff that could be this toxic on combustion wouldn't you.
  13. Have you had many break ins
  14. get a bigger grinder:001_smile:
  15. I was trying to sell one at a boot fair sunday- no interest at £40 They're mad- cracking machine. Knackered honda mowers went fast though.
  16. Nesting season! Can you see it. Is it a crow. This could cost someone a lot.
  17. we use radiodetection Have to say I never have total confidence but the genny induction mode is good. I know people on our local electric co. who hate it when the company recalibrate their scanners as they often come back not working so well. We haven't had ours done for 10 years so it's a good time to have started this thread. I must send it off
  18. just to put the record straight- everyone thinks warm water on a cold screen will cause a crack but it doesn't. I have been using this method for years. Start with warm and progress to hot. Keeps the inside frost free too until the heater kicks in. Only downside is the water may freeze on the drive and be a slip hazard.. Its icy:001_smile: salt the drive The great advice you get on arbtalk= priceless. By the way de icer is pants- just transfers the cold to the inside where it freezes your breath. Give this tip to your neighbour- it may thaw your relationship:lol:
  19. Warming your van up at 5 in the morning is a bit un necessary. I wouldn't and don't do it. Use warm water to defrost and drive straight off. It warms up quicker on the road. Nothing worse than a diesel engine idling at 5 while you are trying to sleep. Look at your own actions closer before criticising others. I suspect he may be a jerk but these are not arguments worth fighting. Life is too short.
  20. This hits the spot. You can't beat going to work and coming home and keeping them separate. It costs but you become more productive. However I am now at home on arbtalk thinking about work aaargh. I'm off out.
  21. I think your lawyer is a mischievous fellow. Disclaimer- this in no way represents my real feelings and I accept no responsibility for the consequences of my ramblings.
  22. Thats a good link if you can answer yes to any of the questions. This I guess means so long as you don't upset your neighbours with noise and or smells not usually associated with a residential property then all OK. I'd just ease off on the chainsaw stuff- use electric for your logs/ set up a screen so the noise goes elsewhere/ insulate your garage for noise and generally be a good neighbour and you'll be fine. Invite him round for a beer. If you really feel hassled then go get a unit or yard but beware the rate protection racket, it will kill a fledgling business. We all think we're good neighbours but put yourself in their shoes. Who wants a chainsaw running at the weekend. I suspect you cut logs for others as well as yourself. It's so easy to feel challenged by your neighbours who may have a genuine cause to complain. A lot of people just escalate the situation and that helps no one. Also, a lot of people might enjoy you falling out with your neighbour so don't let them wind you up. People can be wicked.
