1. Do you fellas know they have a date stamp on them??
 2. I was waiting for someone to walk behind the target... We love living on the edge here. Reminds me of the time I set up an archery target only for the first 3 arrows to miss, go over the wall behind and into the garden behind. gulp.
 3. The guys got a point- do you use a silky until it's blunt then chuck Well, if thats the case, you're using it blunter than sharp for most of the time.
 4. I think the OP made a mistake of asking for a price in his opening . Would have been better to ask someone on here local to come and have a look and give best advice with a view to price. But hey....customers always know best. New estate- trees left= TPO with a vengence though this is Scotland so ...
 5. Cheers- turns out I am- the only female professor of cardiac surgery in Europe. Very talented and hardworking lady. Whew....
 6. So true I had cancer last year and licked it only to now have to have open heart surgery to get a new valve fitted (This coming Monday= gulp) so you never know whats round the corner. Make the most of your time here and try and be nice people. Value others in all your dealings. Well- at least try:001_smile:
 7. We went through a ductile iron gas main on a fencing job. It was buried 3 feet deep- don't know what the BS was but we got the bill:001_smile:. You could smell it 20 yards away
 8. I've kept real quiet though my fingers have not.
 9. chilli powder= good idea Don't even think H&S would mind
 10. We bought echo long reach and regret it. It's more of a light trimming cutter bar so fails when we do anything bigger. The trigger is a breakage waiting to happen. The gearbox has failed twice- probably because we have over exerted it I admit. Plus point- it's quieter than stihl. Vibes are not as bad also. but then again it's not so powerful so you'd expect that. I would get the stihl and you'll get by with one.- Oh yes- invest in a new pair of ear defenders.
 11. Thats a big GULP. Did the climber who did the work feel anything was wrong. No need for scientific 'pull' tests. Just gut feeling. Working on trees in urban environments is fraught with danger. Anyone able to should now press for increasing budgets to counteract this.
 12. Is axemen as good as swamp loggers. I haven't seen it yet. I seem to be watching every program. Boy do they have some problems. But keep on going.
 13. This is the truth. In my experience most people asking us for cards on jobs are after 'cheap' cash jobs or they are hoping the lads will do the work using the firms tools in firms time:sneaky2:
 14. some wise words Andy- have to agree toe the line and get the work On the subject of garages - having recently had a huge bill from a garage that didn't have diagnostic facilities, I will try to avoid such places in future.
 15.

Hi Mark- if you're interested I've been dropping off a bit of chip at an address on the Tenterden Rd. It's a bit out of the way for me but probably suit you being nearer. They want loads as they have an area that they want to mulch where a pond used to be. By loads I mean probably - well ...loads.

Let me know I'll get you the address.

John

 16. Keep us informed won't you- even if it is a reply in a years time. Hopefully not bad news- I think the presence of the trees improves the building
 17. Go with the government website. Contract forms can be copied. Just change the details you want. If you don't give a contract to employees you will be seen as a 'bad' employer if you have to go to court. Some people on here have the wrong information. Cover your a**e. Oh yes- and this is where your real headache starts. 4 employees plus you = 5 employees= written risk assessments. Have fun:001_smile:
 18. To me it looks like there was a lot of old hardcore disturbed during the course of these works. It's very probable that the tree has adapted to this over time and the new drive preparations have not been so detrimental to it's health. I would have thought keeping an eye on how the tree reacts would be a good idea and response as required. You've heard the phrase- If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
 19. It looks like they have removed a foot of topsoil from around the base of the tree- is that correct? What was under the tree before the recent drive?- I mean was it soil or some other hardstanding? A 'before' photo would help!
 20. That old chestnut. Can you enjoy someone else's tree? Personally I've always preferred someone else's as it's their hassle. Same goes for parkland and woods. I do though understand the joy of sitting under your own tree, silently or otherwise just being.....well chilled.
 21. I can see the sense in this especially when milling= standing next to the saw for long periods rather than moving about. I'm now 60% thinking of going down the aspen route. I'm thinking 2 stroke machines to start with especially ms200T and hedge cutters maybe even strimmers as the exhaust is by your head. £10 per gallon extra will probably cost us between £30 and £60 a week. Now, I've just got to get a local supplier nailed down and a method of container disposal.
 22. I'd be interested to know how sealed units control the application. Surely you need more chemical in a bigger stem:confused1: Similarly can't understand how you can have PA6 without PA1 unless maybe you were taught using ULV- even then dosage and legislation???

Hi Rich

That fence thing

Doesn't it depend on what was said to the neighbour. If he said I'll build the fence for you as you are elderly and can't. I accept that you still own it. Then it is still your neighbours responsibility either the old neighbour if still there or the new lazy bones. He has taken on the fence responsibility when he bought the house.

Having said that, I'd sooner be responsible for both sides then I can keep them to a good standard.

BTW- You are lucky you didn't help us last Friday and this Tuesday- poured down hard both days. Got it done though. Soaked. Baptism of fire for Jake. His lasting comment reducing the Holly was- it could be worse, I could be dead. Brilliant.
