  1. same here 261's were rubbish and didn't want to go husky- would clash with all our stihl. So went with 362 and so far can report it's a very good saw. Running 20inch bar
  2. Can you post again over the next 1000 years- see how the regrowth develops. The tidy part of my brain would like to see all the top cut back to leave a bush. See how this pans out. The side I'm trying to develop wants to see beauty in the oddness of this tree. Personally I would like to have seen natural props or even make it weird by getting a heavy chain and welding all the links and using this as a prop. making an optical illusion of the branch being chained to the ground. The chain stopping the branch from flying off. Would have been a local talking point/ tourist draw.
  3. Living the dream eh. This mortgage free idea sounds great but funnily shortly after we became mortgage free, we bought an industrial unit and that was the end of that dream. If you're ambitious, you always push the envelope. Thats the way it is. Good luck with this. I still think Ben Laws house on grand designs was the best of all.
  4. looks massive £32 entrance fee- at least flights are cheap. Would be a boys toys day out (2 days)for me.
  5. We left a fire once- the wind changed direction and set off the fire alarm on the nearby mobile mast/ shut it down- vodafone not happy. Fires- they tricky things
  6. Had me going there You said elder, my head said elm and boy that would have been a small elm so I thought this was a wind up. When Rich joined in I knew my head was all wrong. Yes a big elder it was. Great bushes flowers and fruit much maligned in gardens and I can't think why. More attractive than ash/sycamore and grow to a better scale for small gardens. Good for the birds too. In fact I'm going to plant one in my own garden just to prove- should look good next to the poser olive:001_smile: I'll post a photo when I do.
  7. If we don't scream about this then it's going to happen. Then again how would we get on with 200 rear and a silky- would it be that hard I believe the most unsafe practice is working when over tired. Thats when I feel you are most at risk. Let's ban tiredness.
  8. Tell me about it- if any of you are with constructionline you'll know the hoops you have to jump through.
  9. I know it can't always be like that but how calm and relaxed the whole thing was. Having no pedestrians/traffic is like living the dream. I particularly liked the tripod bit- you actually left it in the edit which says a lot about the reality that sometimes things do go wrong and you just got to smile about it.
  10. on the subject of hovering and mice, is there any way I can remove the ad highlight words. I've tried a couple of ways and not successful.
  11. If you want to do a 'together' course Mark, I've a couple who could make up the numbers.
  12. i must ask though how is a youngster supposed to get into this industry without a step up from a relatively easy NPTC He/She tries it out for 6 months then decides if it is for them or not. Quite a few are obviously not up to it and so we then have a more focussed workforce who want to progress.
  13. But I'm sure insurers will also be interested so there's no escape:sneaky2:
  14. Interesting On a high lower, so long as you got the right length of rope and with this climber controlled system, the climber could do a see-saw operation, attaching the tail to the next limb to be lowered while the groundie unties the lowered branch(es). This way the lowering rope doesn't have to be pulled back. Hmmm. This climber will be earning his wonga.
  15. Looks good with the blossom and I think saving old trees is a worthy activity but... sorry theres a but. Was there discussion about just felling and replanting. It would have been cheaper though not as interesting visually. In time though is this approach better value. I'm sure you've gone through this discussion and I would value your views.
  16. Doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always get in
  17. You get a text alert- then what do you do that you can live with- do you phone police first? It's a hard one
  18. £7K an acre is not uncommon especially down south
  19. why is it 'illegal' to sell PPI to the self employed. They probably need it more than the waged.
  20. Or- how much did their actions devalue the house I'd say, if they were generally good tennants and paid their rent on time and left the place in good nick and didn't annoy your neighbours. Then go easy on them (less mercinary). If they were gits then I'd try for more. It's about being a reasonable landlord IMO.
