  1. Location will help potential responders ?
  2. Probably the best, most sensible post on this subject since it was started!
  3. Normally have swallows here in Essex by mid April- far too cold now. Got the heating on again and glad to have a day of indoor logsplitting for a customer tomorrow as it’s gonna be a wet one ☹️
  4. Lost a days ground maintenance money when a big company I worked for went bust last year. 65m turnover, 300 employees redundant. I got away very lightly - mate who did their transport got shafted for 250k. I never let debts build up - I want paying in stages on bigger jobs. Good customers respect this, others can go elsewhere!
  5. Check that the sensor is close enough to the flywheel. Too far away and it can cause slow running, though it usually pulses rather than just runs slow
  6. We're booked up into mid February at the moment, but with snow/slush everywhere today and probably tomorrow I'm catching up on paperwork. I've admitted i won't get everything done before Christmas that I had booked so it will just have to get pushed into the new year. Got about a week or so left to book in Feb, then off on holiday so realistically any big jobs are now being put to the end of March. People sometimes look at me like I have two heads when I say it's a three month wait - ok, try and get someone else decent that soon at a fair price. Other company I sub to/sub to me are booking for early April now.
  7. I specify 14 days payment terms for commercial or I don't do the job = simples. Local Estate Agent I work for regularly, always pay promptly - the record so far is 12 hours, always paid within the 14 days
  8. My plant supplier said Prunus Caucasica, but having looked around various hedging sites I'm not so sure?
  9. Hi all - I've been asked to plant a lurel hedge to match an existing one on site. Not sure which this is as there are quite a few similar looking ones. Can anyone give me a good id please? Thank you!
  10. First point of call is your local council, ask to speak to the tree officer urgently. I can't look up the specific rules and regs tight now - I'm sure someone on here with far greater knowledge than me will be along shortly with more advice!

  12. Ive been asked to quote to reinstate a 50m hedge we removed for building works a year or so ago.The client seems happy with our suggestion of Photinia (Red Robin) The soil is mainly clay with a thin layer of topsoil over the top. The first 10 meters or so will be an easy dig, the next 40m I think has a compacted type one road under the topsoil. I intend to dig this out where necessary, fill with compost and plant. I've made a list with prices for various sizes and spacings, from the smallest at 60 -80cm, to the biggest at 100 - 125cm, with spacing of 1m, 50cm and 33cm to give a sparse hedge which will take a couple of years to fill in, a medium, and a dense hedge. I have acounted for disposal of soil, supplying compost etc, but not sure on how to price the labour on this? Do you guys price by the hole? There will be two of us on site, and we don't hang about, but don't want to over or under price this one. Any other advice or pointers to what I may have missed would be greatly appreciated!
  13. Can't see it without logging in I'm not on FB
  14. Not on FB - sizes and prices please? Cheers
  15. Usually have a couple of loads a week, also based about 2 miles from you. Cheers
  16. Ran a P100 (Cortina shape) when I first started out, then a Bedford KB 1 ton pickup- fantastic truck so long as you knew it's capabilities. Great for small domestic stuff and it was my car/work truck for about 3 years (20 years ago now)
  17. Put it on Arbtrader with pics, location, price etc
  18. Turn the image on your pc so it's wrong way (sideways), save, move onto next one, do same, move back, turn right way up, save, repeat etc. It should then load correctly onto whatever forum/listing site you're using
  19. Get one - best thing I've done. Only two winters under my belt but gas bill has dropped dramatically, probably 40-50%. Soon adds up, logs are sort of free and no hassle of delivering them to customers
  20. Lost a quoted job recently, concrete posts, gravel boards, close boarded panels - was asked what guarantee I'd give. I replied it depends on how often the customers treat the panels and with what. Posts, gravel boards and 22" of concrete won't fail. Total surprise! "What, the panels need treating? Aren't they already treated?" I explained that just as a timber front door will need painting, fences need treating. One of the other quotes gave a 20 year guarantee including panels. No one can put a genuine guarantee on and actually be there to rectify rotting panels for 20 years. Quite glad to not get this one

  22. Do you have a link to website please?
