  1. Interesting use of wedges. Did the hinge fail on both those maples as they appear to go sideways? I like the skid steer.
  2. looks great, might set up me lunar scope and zoom in and look at the cheese and mice.
  3. Cheers Paul, It was playing on me mind when I was over there on holidays so I kept in contact with them. If I cudda borrowed some kit over there I would have made it safe FOC, and they could've finished it off at some other time. They appear quite lax compared to the UK when it comes to Health and Safety. They were a bit slow on the uptake but at least they are doing something after the original accident that killed 12 and injured several more in August. Wouldn't mind doing some work over there as the climate is nice this time of year, not to mention the fantastic food and wine...
  4. Spotted several Plane trees that were lapsed pollards, a large amount were hollow, heavy leaning with long extended regrowth leaders and in my opinion dangerous. I also wandered about the stunning Monte Palace botanical gardens and spotted some 'sketchy looking' dead trees and deadwood. Nothing prepared me for the oak I spotted though! Right next to a path and a school playground and above and behind other public walkways. It's the tree pictured below. Approx 65' tall with quite a widespread canopy. That main union was in my opinion included at some point and should have been dealt with some years ago by means of reduction and bracing or complete removal. The union failure looks like it happened some time ago but was not spotted by the staff. I emailed them the video and rang them several times in a bid to get the area cordoned off as I suspect 200 people plus walk beneath this tree daily. I even spoke to a tree surgery firm from mainland Portugal that were working on the island and showed them the video, they were shocked. After I returned to 'Blighty' I chased them up on the phone again and offered to fly out (at their expense) and dismantle said tree as they said they couldn't get anybody to deal with it till November time at the earliest. I finally had an email yesterday stating the tree had been removed. I guess me badgering them may have paid off. Either way I'm glad it was made safe. 20170916_133646.mp4
  5. be a good time to do a tip reduction....say 1'' of each tiny tip!
  6. yep I heard that too Timon, 4.5 wraps where 1.5 or 2 maximum would have sufficed in my opinion. As Huck says if he cudda shimmied up that stem and even reduced it by a third then rigged the remaining piece I reckon he would have been ok.
  7. Hi what type of chipper is that?
  8. look at the 3.0Ldiesel that's fitted to the Isuzu troopers from 1998-2005, it can 'run on' as described. It's actually a Caterpillar lump though and they were decent enuf to honour claims for engine failure long after the warranty had expired.
  9. Similar Matty but the newer shaped Iveco.
  10. spotted what I think was an Iveco triple cab tipper truck last week on the island of Madeira, thought my eyes were playing tricks till I drove past it a second time and yes it had 3 rows of seats! wish i'd got a pic of it.
  11. Here ya go. Like I said this is a quick demo. You should be able to reach to approx 60' with a decent set of AUS rods. VID-20170927-WA0002.mp4
  12. i'll do a video fer ya this coming week and show ya the technique, it's pish easy.
  13. AUS all the way in my opinion, I have a set of 11 poles which are mostly 1.2m long as some had to be cut down and shortened in order to repair them. I got mine free over a period of months as I simply took them out of the skip at a place I used to work and repaired them (they are not tested though!). I use them instead of a throw line to set my anchor in the tree, so I had to buy the hook, saw head, and the 'parrot nosed' loppers. They are used daily and I can't ever imagine not using them.
  14. They are hacking away at trees over in Madeira now as we're there on hols. They reckon they are making them safe.
  15. You got 2 lorries Al as I thought you had a 12ton crane lorry too?
  16. I bought a dozen or so cheap tarps from Tool Station, handy for laying down when doing hedge trimming, i also use 1 of them with a few bungie cords to erect a temporary 'chip box roof' which traps all the chip that bounces around in the back and results in very little chip overshooting the vehicle. I do have to remove it afore driving off though as it's so lightweight and flimsy it would rip off at 30mph.
  17. or buy 3 sheets of ply and simply drill some holes with a spade bit, tie them into the upright work position using some old short lengths of climbing rope when your about to chip into the rear of the transit. Once you have tipped out at the end of the day you can untie them and collapse them down so they don't wobble about as you drive along. A cheap solution till you save up enough dollar to buy a chipper and then eventually upgrade the truck or spend a bit of money and build a cheap/basic chip box that will 'look better'.
  18. This is good advice. I run this setup (although my pickup is a double cab) along with an Ifor trailer for backup.
  19. So what ya gunna buy Tel ?
  20. I like the last pic with the rainbow in it, quite apt I think. Well done GG.
  21. ELE ? enlighten me please!
  22. Bill don't buy a 260 or a 280 TES. Buy the 2511TES, it's only £350. Make sure ya opt to have it on the same tiny cutting gear as the stihl MS150T though. I bought mine from Arbtalk member 'RobD' who provides excellent service.
  23. it probably is similar to the 150 T but we were on a big job 2 weeks ago and the Li Stihl and the MS150T was definitely no match for my Echo 2511 TES on anything over 6/7 inches in diameter. The Echo punches way above it weight and out guns both the Stihl Li and MS150T. In fact the climber in the tree next to me asked if I had ported and modded the Echo such was it's performance (which I hadn't). It's so good I don't bodder using an MS200T / Echo 360TES anymore. Having said that I would loike an Li saw same as yours Silky, simply because Li is the way forward.
  24. it's entirely possible that people are away from their yards / log piles seeing as it's a bank holiday weekend and doing family stuff. Have ya tried asking on Facebook?
