  1. I was working for a utilities outfit a few months ago and we had to travel everyday from Exeter to the Reading area to do tree work along canals, i was up at 4.30am, got collected at 6am and got home about 6/7pm. On a few accassions we had to drive to fecking Dudley (near Brum). Too much mileage for me as we were wedged into small vans or over cramped pickups. They were too tight to pay for B&B and reckoned they'd rather we drove back to Devon every day, they only paid time and no time and a half despite the long hours so i jacked it in fairly swiftly. Now i work for myself i'm willing to travel 90 mins each way if the money is good.
  2. me too, it really jumps out at ya and looks professional.
  3. I use basic Klein steel spikes with the longer tree climbing gaffs fitted, cheap and i can use velcro wrap arounds or leather pads with the steel plate inserts and straps. Ya cud run 'em over with a JCB and prolly still use um.
  4. mmmmmmmmmm food for thought. Thanks for the replies people. R5 LOG, i'm sure i've seen a vehicle with that reg number plate recently ! cheers.
  5. i recently bought a used Greenmech GMR100 chipper which looks very similar to the Greenmech CS100, it's very good indeed so i would imagine the newer and more capable CS100 would be even better. My mate has a new CS100 and raves on about how good it is. GM all the way !
  6. Hello folks, i have some customers that have tree stumps that need grinding out ranging in size from 4 inch to 16 inch approx. (in diameter) Is there anywhere near Exeter that rents grinders out ? I assume i'd need to rent a regular pedestrian/push along version and not a large self propelled one. Any advice/recommendations welcome as i have not used a stump grinder before. Thanks, Ken.
  7. :lol::lol:
  8. i tried the pillow case method (blushing a bit now) once and the washing machine nearly jumped out the kitchen door so now i daisy chain the rope with no pillow case and wash at 40 degrees and spin them at 1600 rpm, comes out almost dry. so far no problems.
  9. now where is the LIKE button. Well said mate
  10. Radmore & Tucker in Exeter have a new MS661 in stock as i seen it the udder day. ignore my late noight ramblings as i tink twas actually a MS461 i spied !
  11. Tanks very much Dexta, much appreciated.
  12. Dexta i was gonna go down the same route as i too have the Ifor 10x5.6 trailer but i tink i'll sell the trailer and pickup truck and buy a transit double cab. Tanks fer all the pics and info folks.
  13. looks good Josh, were you tempted to build the greedy boards up a bit higher or are you happy enuf that they are more or less level with the truck cab ?? Tempted to get her converted to a tipper at some point maybe ? regards Ken.
  14. bought my non tipping ifor on ebay a few years ago. Ebay a noightmare to begin with as i'd been chasing tipping/non tipping trailers on there for a few weeks and alot of the sellers wanted to meet up in industrial estates late at noight or the serial number VIN plates 'had worn away or fallen off' or the price was too good to be true. Eventually i bought mine from a really genuine guy in Rural Essex so i drove up from Devon to collect it and it was in better condition than advertised, he was fine with me quizzing him about the VIN number and had no objections to me running it thru a TER check b4 i came all the way up to collect.
  15. had the same last week, i requested the customer to please clear the turds away in order to avoid me coming into contact etc. I really did not expect them to clear it up as they have alot going on with a house renovation, several kids, busy work lives etc. But to my amazement they had it all cleared up as requested, i had made a mental note that i was going to charge them an extra £20 to clear it up myself. A few years ago we asked a guy to clear turds up b4 we trimmed his garden hedges, he used a small poop scoop and flicked them into the conifer hedge we were just about to start trimming !!! We had to 'educate that man'.
  16. good luck with the CRV PP, just watch out for worn prop and drive shafts as they are extremely expensive to repair !
  17. I was told a few years back that most peeps get out of climbing in their late 20's and go into surveying, consultancy etc and i was more than likely too old to start saw work at 40, so i did me relevent CS courses (saved me hard earned money i got doing a completely different line of work and funded my own training) and passed me climbing ticket at 40. I did a bit of climbing the first 2 years but found it very daunting and thought it wood 'never click', but it did tank gawd. 45 now and have been lucky to work with some great people who helped me out along the way over the last tree years (do ya loike that one....!) and now i'm quite good apparently ! I'm 16 stone and intend to keep on keeping on as long as i can. Very impressed with anyone over 55 thats still climbing.
  18. is it not the case that if you or your business is classed as utility or forestry then you 'can get away with murder' as regards to having to use a tacho or being a bit overloaded etc ?
  19. throw line or those insulated rods that the UA guys use to get a main anchor, and footlock up as close to thew cuttinig area as possible, then i'd use a tape sling wrapped around the stem in a 'larks foot' and use the loops to stand in/on, flip line at waist height then reach up and have all that regrowth off. Not as hard as it sounds i promise yew....
  20. Crackoff i have the Klein pole spikes and swapped over to the much longer tree gaffs 2 weeks ago and tried them out on a medium sized tri stem ash dismantle. I initially i found them weird/cumbersome but after an hour or so they felt great. When i do spike work (even a couple of hours worth) i usually suffer with leg fatigue for a few days afterwards, but i did 5 hours in that ash tree and felt fine. The longer tree gaffs were expensive though at £67 plus p&p from AUS. I do like them and as previously mentioned they wood be brilliant on an ivy clad tree. cheers.
  21. tanks very much and fair play to ya Stubby. Thas alorra saw fur not alorra money me tinks.
  22. ok just read this, so are yew lot saying the new 365 is a pro saw or a semi pro saw ?
  23. WYK, that is a ting of gr8 beauty. PS. regards from Roscea....!
  24. my bad ! i assumed it was the same chassis and similar engine but with a few more CC's
