  1. man thas bad news. what ya gonna do, brand new engine or try and get a replacement one from a breaker?
  2. Rob this is where the problem arises as a stock 395xp is a fair machine and a ported one is savage. So it's an unfair comparison.
  3. i was tinkin the same:biggrin:
  4. I thought it would be more as 5th wheelers can usually tow more than other vehicles which employ a standard tow ball or ring and pin? but as Donnk says; ''8.25 is all a post jan 97 licence holder can legally tow. This is probably built with that in mind.'' In which case the only advantage it has over a rigid 7.5 tonner is that it is more manoeuvrable and can lug different types of trailers for different applications.
  5. Donnk, can ya educate me please. How do you calculate 13 ton from those capacities stamped onto that VIN plate? Thanks, W.
  6. alas i'm limited to the 8.25 ton category as they must have downgraded my entitlement at some point without me realising it.
  7. agreed. guess it cud be tuned up with a remap, huge intercooler and uprated fuel pump. Sounds like the front axle drive shaft has been removed too. Personally I reckon it cud be chopped about a bit, chassis cut n' stretched, alloy tool box / chip box fitted (with tipping gear) and still be able to tow a heavyweight chipper, but it all takes money. I used to pilot a Merc sprinter 4x4 cherry picker and it was very capable off road with locking diffs etc so I reckon that Mascott cud be a good bet for someone with money and ideas.
  8. Interesting. 2006 06 RENAULT MASCOTT 160.65 156 BHP 4X4 SINGLE CAB MINI ARTIC TRACTOR UNIT DI | eBay
  9. Now that sounds loike pure bliss. Be even better when that daughter of your's saunters up the isle!
  10. just checked out the sellers items and I cannot see a saw for sale.
  11. Good man Bob, I bought a pair of shocks and the associated air lines.
  12. Some bloody good replies here folks, Thanks for taking the time to put pen to errr fingers to keys. Rob Rainford & Daltontrees are I think hitting the nail on the head and seeing as i'm a cautious character i'll not be doing this inspection. I will however consider some more training.
  13. Hello everyone, I have a commercial customer who I have done work for on 2 previous occasions. They have emailed asking me to quote on inspecting their trees from a Health & Safety perspective. Now I have all the usual NPTC/LANTRA qualifications and relevant insurances enabling me to carry out cutting, climbing etc. I do not have any qualifications with regard to tree inspections, therefore I assume I cannot tender for this work? I guess I need some more training if I want to provide this service.
  14. Cheers Paul, twas finally nice to meet ya. Tank yew fer the help with Facebook etc. Did ya get to see that 197 foot Douglas at Dunster in the end? Good luck with the long haul up thru Cymru. K,M&W
  15. well if for carving you don't need balls out power all of the time then the WES shud do I guess?
  16. gr8 pics Silky. Nice to meet you and several other tree folk, Edwood, 5 Shires (and his lady Daisy Duke), That 'Birdy' kid was an interesting fella and totally dedicated to his 'tree life', super fit and what a foot locker!!! Had a laugh with some of the DART guys who were in fine form but alas i'm terrible at remembering names. Friday night in the Holford was a good laugh and I managed to 'spend some money.....' and had to be poked and prodded by the barmaid at 3.30am to wake up and go to bed. We were meant to camp over last night too but on returning to the campsite we opted to 'de-camp' and head home early as the weather looked like it was coming in so KFC Gordano beckoned. It was lashing down pretty bad as we cruised down the Somerset stretches of the M5 and I was glad to get home and into me own bed. Overall twas a good show but glad it wasn't any smaller. It was my first time visiting Westonbirt and i'm keen to go back and spend more time wandering about the woodlands. A big thank you to Andrew McEwan for the favour and again nice to meet another tree person.
  17. High Scale, My tipper setup looks more or less identical to yours. I have used several tippers over the years and have noticed that some come down alarmingly fast and will no doubt over time fracture the tipper chassis. To counteract this I fork as much chip as I can to the tail board of the tub. Mine too is a single acting ram with that 'scissor type' mechanism which I dislike alot. It's only rated to 15000kg and it really struggles to elevate and sometimes it won't go up atall atall. I get someone to operate the tipper switch and me and my groundie stand either side of the tub and physically assist it to go up, failing that I hafta fork off some chip then try again. I am considering having the ram and mechanism removed and replaced by a beefy 3 or 4 stage ram that will push up any weight without a struggle. Like I say not all tippers slam back down and some are more forgiving than udders. Has your tipper always done this since you have owned it as it may not be possible to 'remedy the problem' ??
  18. hopefully see ya there Dermo.
  19. Legend! will ring you with the details. K
  20. yep me and Daz my groundie are camping fri & sat night. Got some ale bought in and stashed in the garage already.
  21. A long shot I know but would anyone who is going to the Arb show this week be willing to take a very old glass valve motor controller from me at the show and deliver it to Bletchley Park, as i'm donating it to the National Museum of Computing. They may strip it down and use the old skool valves to keep the likes of 'Colossus' and other old computers/machinery going. Valves are in short supply world wide. Thanks, Ken.
  22. Looking for a willing participant for 2 days this week please. You need some tickets/experience. The work is near Cullompton. Ken 07946606093
  23. High Scale, when you say 'tipper mech', do you mean ya fitted a new type of hydraulic ram and the mechanical bits too?
  24. Which do you prefer and why?
  25. Tanks fer the Forestry Journal subscription prize, very interesting reading.
