  1. perfect for lightweight woodland operations around the farm or local tree work. What kind of enjun does it have?
  2. LOL i have felt your pain regarding cancellations and the DNO simply forgetting about shut downs. I ring the area supervisor direct now and he gives me a number of potential dates, i choose one and that's it. I got to use their landy MEWP last time round which knocked 90 mins off my job time so we got off site earlier dan expected.
  3. Yer Landy sounds ideal. I bet the traction it can put down with those air lockers engaged is impressive. You have built the truck thats is right for you, also sounds loike ya know what yer doing and are no afraid to have a tinker with the spanners.
  4. Hi Acer, where ya based as i may be selling my petrol powered hydraulic splitter?
  5. Land cruiser Amazon with front, centre and rear diff locks is prolly a good example.
  6. Hello all, I do not deal in fire wood and i only manually process enough for our own household every year. In the last 2 weeks 2 of my friends have had accidents with hydraulic ram type splitters. The first guy is a log merchant and has a very powerful homemade log splitter and he pinched his finger and it needed stitches, he was lucky it was not worse. The second guy is my main groundie and a budding climber, he however was subbing to another Tree Surgeon and the log splitter in question was fabricated by a farmer and may or may not be CE approved or pass a PUWER inspection. Alas these splitters in my opinion should only be operated by 1 person and in this case my mate was loading the log onto the splitter while another chap was manning the control levers, said chap was a either 'a bit stupid or too keen' and pushed the levers too soon trapping my mates hand. The result was 2 damaged fingers on his right hand, the middle finger had a piece 'lopped off' and was 'tidied up' by the surgeons but will always look terrible, however the index on the same hand was cut off completely at the centre joint which resulted in 2 rounds of surgery to try and sew it back on and establish a blood supply. The surgery failed due to the severity of the injury to that finger so it had to be amputated. This guy only got into this line of work in October of 2016 and started out with me and was proving to be a useful climber and an excellent saw man, he had invested heavily in himself with training, climbing kit, 3 saws etc. He had a bright future ahead of him but whether he will use a saw or climb again remains to be seen. Please be careful out there folks.
  7. Never knew that, i always assumed they had 2 lockers (centre and rear axle) and there was the option to specify a front axle diff lock when ordering the vehicle new from a dealer.
  8. Huck, do defenders not come with a rear axle diff lock as standard to compliment the centre diff ?
  9. VOD a Devon Reg too!

    2018

Happy new year to one and all. I gotta post me party pic. one more time....
  11. 2002 MK6 Transit 2.4 Durotorq, I removed the inlet manifold (quite an involving task) and spent a lot of time de-coking / de-greasing and cleaning it out, inspected it internally with a bore scope afore refitting the same and twas mint inside. Also cleaned and blanked the EGR valve at the same time. Removed the intercooler and it's associated hoses and degreased the same while i was at it. Recently we carefully cut open the 'CAT' and gutted it and welded it back together so it looks stock, this makes the exhaust note 'whistle a bit' but it does improve 'drivability' somewhat. 2000 Isuzu pickup, i simply blanked both EGR valves, this improved drivability too. Glad none of our vehicles have DPF's fitted.
  12. Quite a good programme. I was surprised to hear Surrey has the most amount of trees of any county in the UK.
  13. nice but pricey. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Landcruiser-Pickup/172337116836?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3D5e5d9b1bf23e4a8382c478852668d3df%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D172337116836&_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507
  14. white writing to the outside, just the way I like um' ! gr8 lookin' truck.
  15. BFG M/T's can be hard to get as they are apparently only manufactured for a number of weeks each year so when they are sold out that's it. I have struggled in the past and resorted to remoulds. Some folks reckon they can get nigh on 100k (miles) out of a set of 4 BFG MT's (find that hard to believe).
  16. yep that sounds ideal as you can leave an over sized hinge as yer Mog will have the required grunt totug it over.
  17. Ian read my experience with my 560xp, i still run the same saw. Look at post no.9, makes ya think though huh.
  18. It's the metal fatigue he's concerned about Bob. It would appear TW230's are made of cheese and there have been quite a number of reported failures.
  19. how much is a new 230 Ben?
  20. did they sell all of the kit they had, tractors trailers etc? some of it looked well used.
  21. oddly enuf ferra small outfit like me i've been very busy since sept. We smashed in quite a few 'big ones' this winter too. One in particular reared it's head 12 months after i first quoted it so i went back to requote in October and added on another £150 per day thinking 'I won't get away with that' but i did. The job started out as a 5 day poplar fest and turned into 10 days so I did well out of it. We have every day booked up from now till christmas eve and we will be back on it before new years eve. basically we are booked up till Mid Jan. I have started doing a larger proportion of commercial work versus domestic which i prefer as it bluntly means alot more money. I'm trying to squeeze in 3 large jobs before yuletide along with other smaller jobs so lets see how i get on! 'This time next year Rodders.....!'
  22. the moors to the west of Royston Vasey are remote....
  23. Been considering jumping to a 7.5 tonner ferra while now. I'm not decided yet though. A truck has caught my eye and it's got this 'Easy Shift' auto box, does anyone have any experience with these auto trucks be it good or bad? It's pretty old being a 2006 model but may not have a DPF and a CAT Converter being that age which in my book is a good ting. Grunty 5.2L diesel shud be good for towing and carrying large loads of chip, better turning circle than my transit and has a bit more chip capacity since it's a tad longer in the load area, plus that big chassis / enjun would (legally!) handle the task better me thinks. Thanks K.
  24. i want a Li saw for cutting the odd fork afore they go thru the chipper. I find if i'm chipping for a while and the 560xp cools down i hafta go thru the whole rigmaroll of starting a cold saw again which is a PITA on these auto tune saws. Then ya gotta blip it and get it running smoothly afore cutting the aforementioned fork. With a Li saw, pick it up, chain brake off, pull trigger and cut, none of this warming up/ blipping the throttle malarky. They are the way forward.
