  1. i want a Li saw for cutting the odd fork afore they go thru the chipper. I find if i'm chipping for a while and the 560xp cools down i hafta go thru the whole rigmaroll of starting a cold saw again which is a PITA on these auto tune saws. Then ya gotta blip it and get it running smoothly afore cutting the aforementioned fork. With a Li saw, pick it up, chain brake off, pull trigger and cut, none of this warming up/ blipping the throttle malarky. They are the way forward.
  2. The Deer Hunter.
  3. good work Alex. Cornwall, Coventry and now Oz!
  4. Ok it's not a forestry or arb lorry but it's great to look at. It's currently lifting and winching precast concrete panels into place at my mates farm. Note the winch placement. Someone reckons that it'll lift 12 ton close in. Note the 'ballast box' which is fabricated out of galvanised RSJ's and is filled with concrete. Tink it's plated at 28 ton.
  5. so what brand and pitch size is it?
  6. 18hp version?
  7. yep i had one and twas great., Sold it a mate 18 munts ago and it's stihl going strong. It was a 2008 build.
  8. had a similar problem on my old machine and I simply had the exit spout modified so it folds.
  9. Pete whas the small red machines, GMR100's?
  10. i was tagged on that Facefook post, twasn't one of mine. I tagged anudder fella and it looks loike twas his saw so he's happy!
  11. pinch of salt.
  12. thas not one bit funny and i'd lose my sense of humour pretty quickly with that sleeping person...
  13. I'm lucky to have a few decent subbies who can fill the days required, however I do go short sometimes and today is one of those days! I needed a third man today and the chap that was booked in got the dates mixed up so I postponed todays work, not a big deal really. I find there are people that are keen and interested and want to do arb work (be they ticketed or not) and those that are ticketed up and not really interested as they simply see it as a way to get some days here and there, but they have no real drive or interest and I constantly have to ask them to do stuff. One chap I use from time to time is a sound lad but isn't really cut out for proper outdoor work and would rather be sat at the controls of a 360 swing shovel with the heater on. He's ok but a bit flakey. I reckon there are people out there that have never done this type of work that would actually be quite good if they gave it a try.
  14. yep me too. On the udder hand I have done a few where the customer has asked me to do as I wished and I have been more sympathetic.
  15. reckon my lift pump is shot too at that rate as i bought a 'cheap' kubota diesel powered chipper (please don't ask, fools and their money LOL!!!) recently and i can't gett'her to run either. I'll try the inline leccy pump test and see what happens. Oddly enuf i want an A540 next time round.
  16. chain rakers need attention or have they been filed away already?
  17. it's simply too long.
  18. with a hammer and chisel ala the 10 commandments or a bit more up-to-date with a quill and some parchment from a paper birch?
  19. make the application and see what happens. I've walked away from a few simply because I don't need to 'taint' my rep. with the local TO. I walked away from one last year as a customer had 'obtained permission to give a lovely cedar a very generous all over reduction', when I asked to see the email detailing the permission it turned out it stated he was allowed to remove 1 storm damaged limb and reduce 3 other laterals, when I pointed this out he got pissy and slated the TO (she was not present) and insisted I 'cracked on if I wanted paying'. I told him to challenge the decision if he felt hard done by but I also stated that I agreed with the tree officers decision. Sometimes it aint worth the hassle.
  20. u mean they are not 'smiling' and are down turned?
  21. I could do with a hand on Friday. No saw work and nothing too strenuous. Ken 07946 606093
  22. @sloth I will, thanks very much.
  23. i was wondering that too as i was trying to decipher a couple of his Facebook comments recently and came to the conclusion that there must be a 'she' in the mix somewhere....
