  1. Thoughts on pros and cons of the new gen battery saws. I'm doing a short presentation next week. Many thanks
  2. I concur. Fire damage, boiled sap wood a good while ago. There is no chance of the wounds to fully oclude. The radial crack is a great concern, how far and how deep? Either way the tree is inviting more decay. Would be nice to have a good look about, it's a candidate for further inspection.
  3. Beechwood has it spot on don't let a negative outlook, put you off mate. Just be prepared to get tired and work in bad weather. Good luck and stay focused on your goals. Sent from my EVA-L09 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Bamburgh, Beadnell or Low Newton by the Sea. The Greys Inn at Embelton has holiday cottages at Newton. Views are spectacular and plenty of sea air, open space for a costal aspect. If its the Northumbrian hills try Alwinton or west of Wooler, even the Youth Hostel at Mount Hooly, in the college valley, very remote and at the foot of the northern flank of cheviot.
  5. Milling some oak next week, planks should come off at 9 foot x 30 inch x 4 inch. Anyone interested in purchasing give me a shout Sent from my EVA-L09 using Arbtalk mobile app
  6. I thought these went out of fashion years ago. I remember they were all the rage in the 80's when the weather got hot, the posh ones were Oregons with the zips. They were just dammed awfull, to fell all day in, happy days.
  7. Big forestry companies rather see the timber stand whilst the markets flat. British timber is dependant on the global price. And it's dirt cheap. The problem for the harvester lads and lasses is the finance monthly fee and keeping the machine new enough to be cost effective. No good when the big mills have the handbrake on. I suspect the biomass market has put a bottom in the price for chip, but the lack of gov subsidy has slowed the market
  8. I like the knut bites like patterdale terrier, tenders realy well
  9. The "kasp" £20 stainless round operating lock is pretty good for the money, more cash go for the multi lock but they all are much better with some diy 1/4 plate welded up around them so the bolt croppers cant get in, but nothing stops a determined thief.
  10. If there big it's nice to knock them over, square the butt up with something like a 660 and sned / convert with a lighter husky really doesn't matter as long as it's sharp.
  11. Nothing wrong with soft wood on a stove with the door shut but make sure it's dry, got some larch on mine right now burns great.
  12. Check the plastic washer hasn't dropped out inside the spout.
