  1. blown one gearbox on a kaaz but i reckon that was purely the one in million bad luck factor. got repaired and keeps going. yamaha we had did ok but always seemed tired. couple toros and i liked them an awful lot, light to turn and the three speed box was just right but if wet didnt bag too well - its scotland so a big problem. had a earlier john deere and just junk. tried an etesia on demo and i loved it but was too expensive for my employer. now late this year we had a heap of john deere mowers on demo - god i want them all, no question at all. the pedestrian rotary mower we tried was only for an hr as to be honest it had rained all week and it just looked like wouldnt cope - WRONG. the many selectable notches (dont know what jd call it) for gears were perfect for our steep slopes and wet long not touches in three weeks grass and it bagged amazing. theres no way on earth either the 2011 or 2013 kaaz mower we have was going to touch it but the jd did. the jd zero turn mower that we tested (abused) to the limits and beyond, ie i got scared on slopes just kept cutting and in one six hr period cut what previously took me 24hrs or more to strim. the ride on collector did amazing, way better than i expected both in mowing and hoovering on tar roads with deck up a little sucking up leaf. did like a drink of fuel but compared to hand raking and lifting its days ahead on time. on slopes i was truly ready for a roll over and insurance claim time but it kept going. prices are definetly higher than say kaaz but worth a look for sure.
  2. socks, usual food odd bits and peices and a set of led work lights for back of landy. happy xmas to all
  3. if i didnt have a calender telling me it was mid dec i would swear it was nov or march. mild enough if out of wind, grass is green and i swear still moving a bit. mad for time of year.
  4. my usual delicate style, logs dropped in by tractor, hardcore etc raked out by jcb, tracked chippers, road rollers. pretty much whatever i want to lob in. i tend to break most stuff through hard working it and this is lasting a few years now.
  5. did my trailer with marine ply and then chequer plate over top - bomb proof so far
  6. got lovely looking stainless exhaust system fitted to my 90 yesterday. went with decat front pipe but kept other boxes. turbo seems to spool up quicker and you can hear it - i love it
  7. may be too harsh but seen some folks use a shock collar, gets to stage can have shock turned off but it still buzzes so dog thinks oh oh and behaves.
  8. would be unhappy if i bought that, doesnt look like much fibrous root at all. work has luxoury of a nursery area where we buy smaller specimens or propogate our own and line then out. biggest ones are planted yearly around now and then everything else is dug up and re lined out. this allows us to do several things, add compost/dung/leaf mould/whatevers going spare to now empty rows, fill in holes with fresh soil then rotovate it all in. does mean we have well fed growing area and that things are undercut yearly and develop fantastic rootballs. specimen in photo is more like something i have had to remove with tractor and chain to take to burning area. so a good nursery should be able to produce much better than that in my opinion. yes costs will go up a bit but much better end product is worth it.
  9. thats very generous ahpb! if every arb firm even managed to give him one day for next week or so can you imagine how great his mood will be for xmas day - hot meal inside him daily and feel good factor of doing a days work.... come on others!
  10. go slow, be methodical, relax and enjoy. friend went for 30/31 and tried to do it quick to impress assessor, bad plan. you have plenty of time so use it. talk through everything in your head and if it seems stupid, it most likely is so think twice. safety is key so slow and steady is good.
  11. best - legal not likely to be likely/lucky enough to catch in action. mind you years ago a friend of mine worked near my house and often used to pop up and enter house through a method without key but ok with me ( i was single and had no items of value) and borrow tools if needed, always texted me so i was aware but one day text didnt come through etc and i got a call from cops who said car reg ... ... ... was seen coming in drive, person went round back, came back a few mins later and left, seemed dodgy and had been reported by a regular dog walker, would i like them stopped/arrested, so just as i thought oh poo i have been robbed and yes please something clicked and i said was it a red astra... turns out dog walkers were used to make in a defender so his dads astra wasnt known! very amusing and close call for him. so if you live somewhere very public like me, and notice you have regular walkers all week etc they are often better than cctv and encourange them to be nosey. i speak to them all, feed all dogs a biscuit, know their names and so on if i can. best ever security system i reckon. estate had some timber harvesting done and some trees were roadside so driver thought he would do them out of hrs sort of to be people free, turns out theres folks walking dogs after 1am and by 4am so never goes quiet.
  12. all of the above will only slow them down so the insurance is best option.
  13. steel posts in massive amount of concrete and chain/padlock over entrance hitch lock insurance approved wheel clamp insurance approved locking wheel nuts all wheels big chain and padlock in huge amount of concrete with steel rebar etc in ground over A frame insurance for theft when off vehicle
  14. washing machines are my most killed domestic appliance, been here 18 years and if you count the total rebuild on this one - thank you warranty purchase - i have killed 10 in that time.
  15. i will pop up a photo of setup i have on my trailer tommorow. although not for a chipper but a log splitter if its going long distance. picked up a cheap hand winch and towball, got blacksmith to make up frame for it and bolted onto headboard of trailer. only modification since is i replaced the awful handle on winch with one off a jockey wheel that had hit road and its so much better. log splitter is give or take 3/4 of a ton as tractor at work can just lift it and its rated for that lift. a better winch would have been nicer that had a ratchet for lowering as well as pulling on but hey it works well for me. pics sometime tommorow
  16. Glad your dog is improving big j. I love my dog and would be devestated if anything were to happen to him. I read your original thread and sadly wasnt in a position to offer funds from one dog owner to another but i can say hand on heart it wasnt a begging thread.
  17. sure is mad if you cant give away softwood, i always offer cash/beer whatever prefferred for any variety of logs that can be gotten and estate i am on currently takes wood chip from anything except diseased/larch as a free tip site. I have never refused a load of logs or not gone a decent distance to get them, good days and bad days and with that logic i could get ten loads this week and none for a year so got to go for it. sadly also in scotland or would be offering to work out a deal for all your softwood
  18. its a beatiful fence silky! just my personal preference whether its log shed or fence to never see any other timber other than posts in contact with ground. comes from a very very wet scotland right now. i come in from groundsman point of view, do it once and for as long as possible, try to use things like oak posts or telegraph poles for strainers to hopefully outlast me! put in some oak ten years ago and still solid, compared to junk from local mill thats rotted out.
  19. nice fence but i have a little thought, wouldnt it have been better for its life span if the cladding was even an inch off the ground, save it sucking up water and rotting. could just be pic also.
  20. i took my last small trailer to a blacksmith and had metal mudgaurds made up with rod connecting then to body as well. i am heavy and could stand on no bother. well worth the cost.
  21. wow that old and so few hrs, our work john deere isnt three years old and done just shy of 1300 hrs. thats not working all day every day or farming. ours certinaly wont ever be running at that age.
  22. having just gone through same question of tank volume to cure heat/flow issues with a good hydraulics company their recommendation was get flow rate of pump per minute and x 3 for tank volume. i was very unsure for a log splitter that had been on a small tank for years but wow the difference in amazing. so would always go x 3 now on volume.
  23. different trailer but had to renew cables so when i did mine i hung them up as they has a small cup at one end into which i put spray grease every time i passed them for a week before fitting, eventually it oozed out bottom and cup was full. was boring but seems to have served me well for 3 years so far now.
  24. no worries, callum asked me if i knew anyone so put you forward. glad its going good. a stick or two there for sure. its a lovely spot there and callum is good to work with. dog sure is friendly too!
  25. ahh yes i know that view stephen. Hope you and callum got on well. he was my boss for 15 years before move there.
