  1. oil pickup cleaned, re cleaned and cleaned again. bar holes cleaned and checked. had oil pump out twice today, seems to work ok. second time soaked in petrol for a while, blew it out best i could with airline, back in petrol again for a while, blew out again and then back onto saw. ran saw and cut one log, bar and chain seriously hot so repeated all of above stuck it back together and seems ok now. so i guess either oil pump is dodgy or drive for it is worn. have pm'ed spud and checked what he thinks so now its try it again see how long it works for and then its new oil pump and drive i reckon. shame as i love the saw.

  4. ooh now wee jim does have a nice tractor if i remember rightly there was a pic on here. even a tractor with crane alone would do worst of it, pick up swing round into a new pile, move tractor and restack i guess. sadly jewson lorry wouldnt get in, its a hardcore track in back garden. worst case i do way i thought first, cut to five foot, drag off pile with chain and scoop up with tractor bucket and move one at a time - seemed like slow dull option.
  5. yep know jamie, he about 40 - 50 miles from me, will text him to see when he next in area but looking to see if anyone else working around here. truly is a small job, guess amount to move is under 20 tons, most likely under 15 and its going less than 50 yards so its a do in the passing for some cash type deal.
  6. Looking for somebody with tractor and timber trailer with operator for a small job near banchory, got some lengths of timber that need moving about 20 feet, currently stacked but the bearers have rotted and now timber sinking into mud. needs lifting and moving down a few yards to harder ground and re stacked. then two trailer loads of lengths moved and stacked beside it. this is about 200 foot of a move. All on hard track and easy going. Wont suit proper forwarder or huge tractor. can provide photos etc if needed. i would reckon at very very most an hours work. Cash awaits. Ideally needs doing next month or two if passing through, can be done anytime it suits. can anyone help please? david
  7. guess you could strim hard down, rake off and wait for a little re growth, spray off. repeat a couple times with spray. maybe level with a little soil over to ready for turf and then selectively treat any regen. or mini digger and skip etc to remove plants then resoil/turf or seed
  8. i love my 372, its a great saw so i bet you will love your new delivery!
  9. Had two of them now and both took a lil while to get in and get fixed. One done properly opened up and other keyhole surgery. The keyhole recovered quicker and was less painful by a long way. both times was 3 months off work at surgeons recommendation and then fully a year to be fit again. now the only trouble is if i wear a belt with decent sized buckle and do a bit of bending the buckle upsets the area but other than that its all great!! does make a little more wary of silly lifts but thats not a bad thing.
  10. up in aberdeenshire scotland we use a firm called rose access who hire out a tuepen to us and its around 80cm wide and goes through a gate with height issues of around 6 foot six if i remember right. amazing lil thing and does some very tight turns, ours is a historic walled garden and castle (work wont let us say where etc social media madness) but about 17 miles from aberdeen! we use a sheet or two of plywood for turning areas to save path/slab damage and works great. worth a call to rose access cause i am sure they may point in right direction of national hire places.
  11. honestly no idea why folks wont burn softwoods, its all i burnt for years. some of hottest burning was a lawsons cypress hedge i got off a member on here. amazing stuff for autumn and spring as few logs got room hot. if you were up here and wanted a sensible price i would bite hand off for more softwood. some local places sell it for a fortune per ton/cube depending on measure, like 130 quid for a tattie box level split
  12. hmm road trip to durham to see her......ahem get a pint or two. wish barmaids up this way looked like that
  13. would also be interested in knowing about wheel chocks, could use a set myself, pm if wanting to keep private source etc please would be great.
  14. nightmare chipping somebodys elses brash heap, unless they have it drummed into them how to prepare and stack for a chipper its a pig. could treat it as a learning experience, hire a chipper and pull apart your heap and not so prepared material and see how much hard work it is, sure teaches you that its not how to prepare for chipper and means if you have need of somebody in future it stacked perfectly.
  15. could always do like a mates previous employer does. production type bonus. If production, in this case jobs done to right standard in expected time frame and no breakdowns caused by stupid or banned actions then a bonus payable to squad at end of week, any problems and no bonus. theres a good chance the breakdowns will go down, so costs down and bonus will cost less than lost time/breakdowns etc.
  16. Thought i would give this a little bump up. hope i dont annoy anyone. cheers david
  17. wish i was nearer you, would be there like a shot. be nuts if you dont get the lot cleared quick.
  18. that is a shame, would take tons of it for sure
  19. So time to be cheeky and see if anybody doing jobs in aberdeenshire has any wood they want rid of. I am in banchory but can travel a reasonable distance or you could tip here, good access. will take anything going, lengths or whatever there is. Got own landrover and trailer/saws and certs to cut and collect. conifer etc all gratefully received. none of it for resale its all for elderly mother and to help girlfriends folks out too. got cash waiting but cheeky i know cheaper the better please. many thanks
  20. do remember there is no such thing as a stupid question if you dont understand how to do something. better to ask and be told how to do safetly than take a chance and get hurt/break kit etc. everybody has to learn and one day you will be the person somebody asks the questions of.
  21. i have a 2 or so year old 372xpg and yeah its a lil heavy but compared to the husky 555 work just bought i love my 372, feels sooo much nicer, tons and tons more power, better protection around exhaust area so when full depth in a big log the gases arent burning your hand. doesnt have the autotune etc. done ten or so hrs on 555 and i truly dislike it, wouldnt have one! 372 all the way for sure
  22. before work tightened up on phoning in sick times i once woke up at 11am after hitting snooze button so phoned in and said stomach bug, couldnt bring myself to tell boss how daft i was! one of guys i work with used to get smashed after every payday and then not come in, failed to realise entire area (housing on estate we work on) used to hear him howling at moon at 4am - started getting docked a days holiday each time, soon wised up. honestly cant remember last time i pulled a sickie, entirely too busy to loose a day or just to lazy to come up with excuse perhaps.
  23. doing some oak with 372 and lots of smoke from stuff almost on fire recently, lot worse on dry windy day - not that having many of them now
  24. i have a cut and climb jacket, dont climb so no experience in trees. spent time on mewps or scaffolds with it so up and down etc on scaffold. one of the very best features i love is the long back so when you bend over your back doesnt get exposed to rain/wind and so on. i have back issues so this affects me a lot and the difference between a normal jacket that rides up and the cut and climb that doesnt is huge! mine gets worn for logs, strimming, dragging brash, chipping and so on and i think its great.
