  1. sounds like a fun lil project, be good to see pics once up and running. wish i had skills to build something that works........now taking stuff apart
  2. where i work there is a weird issue with snow days. All resteraunt/shop and other staff get paid full day rate/stay at home if its a declared snow day by manager yet me and a few other gardeners are never given a snow day and expected to work regardless. same applies when place closes for other conditions, ie extreme winds etc. been same for 16 years i been there. sure does build up a lil bad feeling some days when its really minging and you know a dozen folks are sitting in nice warm house on pay and you are out in it. but thats only on worst days it feels like that.
  3. mine is one handed and been since bought off ebay with no injuries. often have two of us working on it. me loading from one side and other on far side operating machine. after first session you get into nice work pattern and as long as sensible no risk, ie no hands between ram and knife ever.
  4. sure sounds like ram seals, with a hose gone the leak would have been obvious immediatly, ie nice spray of oil and most likely in operator direction - or perhaps that parts just my luck!
  5. checked swivel bearings?
  6. happy new year to all. time for a beer, just finished a first responder shift so its happy times
  7. a good physio can soon get you moving in right direction between treatments and exercises. I have three wrecked discs in my back and put up with it for many many years when doc said its just job related, ended up ambulance job with pain and stuck in bed one day. cue some drugs i walked out next day, asked around work mates and found a physio who within 2 mins diagnosed problem and how to get me going. that was 4 years ago and if i am sensible when off work, ie do some light stuff every day and keep mobile it doesnt often flair up but when it does some rest/drugs/physio gets me going in not too long. guess the point is find a good physio, go with whatever they suggest be it massage/exercise/acupuncture/manipulation and really truly do as they say.
  8. can anyone tell me if there is a fuel filter on the honda gx engines, in particular the 160 and 390. i found a site that sells them but for the life of me i cant find the thing.
  9. how about finding somebody with cs 30/31 looking for a lil practise, and offer them few quid/take away dinner/ beers in return for a few mins work dropping it. obviously this assumes its a tree in a field with no possible issues even if it goes wrong way, no targets etc and you can them safetly take apart on deck. Also lets you learn a lil as you go and perhaps then take 30/31 tickets.
  10. clarks do a cut and climb jacket. Its loved by all on here who have bought one. Berghaus do waterproof trousers for around 40 - 50 quid, think its the deluge overtrousers. am on my 2nd pair in 3 years and they are fine over saw trousers or on their own.
  11. reckon worst thing in world is a cluttered dirty bench. mine is clad with thin galv steel sheet so can be degreased and cleaned easily. bench in main workshop at work is a tip, never tidy and makes me cringe. was always tought at end of every day clear bench, floor and empty bins.
  12. 346 or 357, get either in xpg model if you do any in winter ( or maybe i am soft). most likely the 346 is winner as lighter. Havent used one but our forester loves his for smaller stuff. i use 357 for half my firewood up to about bar and half on 15 inch bar and then any more i switch to 372.
  13. yep thats the one
  14. on my recent cs35 the instructor was telling us about a small petrol winch he had bought. think of capstan type. strap to tree and tie to whatever to be pulled and off you go. easy carry into gardens etc, use off towbar and so on. wasnt too expensive either and a lot less effort. wish i could remember name now, but all i know was below £1000
  15. think the nicest softwood i burnt in a good while was a big pile of lawson cypress from a hedge job i got the timber from. made for a very warm winter indeed and had lots so didnt care i was throwing on plenty. kept living room over 20 celcious so very cosy. its only in last three years i have had luxury of hardwood in my stove for more than odd night so there is nothing at all wrong with softwood.
  16. work sold a 5 year old one with cab, mower deck and loader, 1300 hrs and thrashed for 8000 to a dealer. so a good condition one be worth a lot more
  17. heated seats are a great thing in any landy, i love mine
  18. cut and climb sure is a nice jacket aint it - wouldnt hesitate to buy another if mine died. cant cope with wet saw trousers after a miserable week on my cs32 with soaked type c on all day every day! the berghaus over trousers are almost disposable at a pair every `18 months or so costing 40 quid off amazon delivered.
  19. said it before but we are too soft on criminals... caught once hand off, caught twice other hand. any further and head off
  20. cut and climb jacket from clarks and berghaus deluge overtrousers and you cant go wrong. its what i have had for a good while now and love the cut and climb jacket
  21. to be honest trev - cowards to go hacking into a cylinder... seen lots of pics, a few how to do guides and neither of us can bring ourselves to go for it
  22. that would be great guss did have a look on ebay but guess its wrong time of year as prices soaring. collection is easy for us and would be cash
  23. Hey folks, wondering if anyone within not too many miles of aberdeenshire or 100 miles roughly has a scrap woodburner kicking around. its for a friend to heat his garage when fixing car. obviously am aware of all risks of scrap stove etc but hey most things can be welded up to be safe for a windy garage. either forum donation or cash waiting
  24. pretty much every sharpen is on bench in vice. only two saws so not too much changing. 357 and 372
